CORBRIDGE Festival is a mid-summer music
festival, tailor-made and lovingly crafted for the
whole family.
With its picturesque location, amazing music
line up and magical atmosphere, this hidden gem
of the North East is destined to be the highlight of
your summer. Cast, Craig Charles, From The Jam,
The Selecter, Lucy Spraggan, Keston Cobblers
Club, Bloxed Beats, Extra Curricular, and The
Happy Cats are just some of the bands coming to
Tynedale Park, Corbridge on Friday, July 7 and

From the Jam, featuring former Jam bassist
Bruce Foxton, are coming to Corbridge to celebrate
the 40th anniversary of The Jam’s debut album In
The City. Also performing at Corbridge this year is
The Selecter, a 2 tone Ska revival band from
Coventry formed in mid 1979 and famous for hits
such as On My Radio and Three Minute Hero. The
band is led by iconic front-woman
Pauline Black.
Another recognisable name coming to
Corbridge is former X Factor finalist Lucy
Spraggan. Lucy is famous for quirky hits such as
Last Night and Tea and Toast. The funk and soul
train will be making a stop at Corbridge, when BBC
Radio DJ Craig Charles kicks off Corbridge 2017 on
the Friday evening.
Limited space in the marquee for Friday means
that there’s a limited number of Weekend (Friday
and Saturday) tickets. There are no Friday-only
tickets, and they will sell out fast. Saturday-only
tickets cost £35, while weekend tickets are priced
at £43.
Although the music is at the centre of things,
Corbridge Festival is about much more than just
the music. It’s the wonderfully friendly atmosphere
of Corbridge that wins new friends year on year.

Judge Jules pioneered house and trance music
in the ’90s and was voted No. 1 DJ in the world by
DJ Magazine. Soul II Soul became a household
name back in 1989 with chart successes such as
Keep On Moving and Back To Life.
They also achieved global domination with the
album Club Classics Volume One. This topped the
charts in the UK and all over the world selling more
than four million copies. Other headline acts at the
event at Hillside Rural Activities Park, Thirsk, include
reggae stars Aswad, who have had a long history of

Sunderland
International Airshow
is set to impress fans
again this year with
another dazzling
display of aerial feats.
Organisers have
announced its return
this summer with a
programme once again starring the Red Arrows.
The event will be jetting back on July 21 for the
traditional launch night before the main showcase
event takes place on the July 22-23 weekend.
The scene is set for another spectacular show
which will also feature the return of the Royal Air
Force’s Typhoon and Aerobatic teams and the
Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
The launch will take place on the Friday night at
Cliffe Park; then it’s Roker and Seaburn which will
host the weekend displays.
The RAF Typhoon Team will be back to take
part on all three show-days in a range of aircraft.
And the flying talents from 29(R) Squadron have
been hand-picked from the elite team.
“Each year we are delighted to display over the
spectacular coastline at Sunderland,” said Flight
Lieutenant Ryan Lawton.
The RAF Aerobatic Team also will be thrilling
the crowds at the Sunderland City Council show
and will be joining up on the Saturday and Sunday
with the RAF Falcons and RAF Tutor display team.
The airshow displays are set to run from 10am
until 6pm on both the Saturday and Sunday, with
precise display timings due to be confirmed
nearer the event. All aerial stunts will be subject
to weather and operational restrictions.

history of ingenuity
CELEBRATING the engineering vibrancy
of Darlington, the Festival of Ingenuity
offers something for all the family.
From underwater robots and stunt
driving, to interactive activities and
never seen before displays, an action
packed day awaits. The free festival,
which takes place in the town centre
on Saturday September 23, promises
to be bigger and better than before.
There will be performances from gymnastics
group Acropolis, whose acrobatics combines
incredible feats of strength, agility and bravery,
with beautiful gymnastics and stunning
choreography.
Car enthusiasts will be thrilled by performances
from Paul Swift’s extreme driving display. Its team
of precision drivers are considered to be the best
in the business performing some of the most jaw
dropping stunt
action ever seen.

be a Punch and Judy
show, face painting, and food stalls.

New festivals confirmed for 2017
THREE new festivals,
celebrating the very best in
food and drink, are coming to
the North East this summer.
Organisers Mark and Shelley
Deakin have confirmed that for
the first time their ever-popular
Proper Food and Drink Festivals
- which are all free to enter - will
visit Blyth and Gateshead.
The festivals will also return
to South Shields, Whitley Bay
and Cramlington.
Details for a new event are
also being finalised. It is called
The Great North Feast and will
run from August 25 to 28 in
Bents Park, South Shields.
“It’s going to be a
celebration of food
and drink but it will
also bring together
the community for
a social eating
experience which
has never been
seen before in the
North East,” said
Mark. “We’ll also be
trying to break
loads of records.”
The first Proper
Food and Drink
Festival took place in North
Shields in 2012 and returned
there this year over the Early May
Bank Holiday weekend.
On each day of all the festivals
there will be live music and a
large choice of hot food and drink
to help make them days out to
remember for all the family.
The events have also proved to
be a successful shop window for
producers, generating enough
interest to help some turn their
passion into a living. The Proper
Food and Drink Festival comes to
Bents Park in South Shields for
the Spring Bank Holiday weekend
(May 27, 28, 29). It is in Whitley
Bay for June 17 and 18;
Cramlington on July 29 and 30.
Gateshead’s Saltwell Park
stages its first Proper Food and
Drink Festival on August 5
and 6 before it also
makes its debut in
Ridley Park in Blyth

The three-day festival will

The sixth North East Chilli
Fest has a different home – a
27-acre site overlooking the
sea at Seaton Sluice – and an
