Starting with dry, and in the larger sizes we have seen a number of orders placed this week for
Newcastlemax, starting with Oldendorff Carriers are placing an order for four firm plus two option
208,000 DWT bulkers at Jiangsu New Yangzijiang with delivery of the firm ships in 2015 and 2016.
Next Clients of Star Bulk Carriers are understood to have contracted three firm Newcastlemax, with a
single 209,000 DWT vessel at Nantong COSCO KHI (NACKS) and two firm 208,000 DWT at SWS.
Delivery of all three vessels is due for 2016. In the smaller sizes, Star Bulk have also announced an
order for two firm 61,000 DWT Ultramax also at NACKS, with delivery in the fourth quarter of 2015.
Additionally in the Ultramax sector, China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES) have contracted a total
of eight firm and four option Ultramax in China. This order includes four and two 61,000 DWT Ultramax
at both NACKS and DACKS respectively, with delivery from 2015. The CMES order also includes two
firm plus four option SDARI design 64,000 DWT Ultramax at Chengxi, with both the firm and optional
vessels due for delivery in 2016.
A quiet week in the tanker market with just one order to report, with Stolt-Neilsen understood to have
declared the sixth in a series of 38,000 DWT stainless steel chemical tankers at Hudong Zhonghua,
with delivery of this latest vessel lined up for 2017.
The container market ordering has been focussed on the mid to large and feeder sectors, with little
ordering seen in the intermediary sizes. DSME have taken an order for three firm 10,500 TEU
container carriers from Hamburg Sud. These wide beam post panamax vessels are understood to be
due for charter to MOL/Hanjin Shipping when delivered from the third quarter of 2015. Pricing for this
order is understood to be in the region USD 91.5 Mill per vessel. In the similar sizes and Seaspan are
understood to have declared five further options for 10,000 TEU at Jiangsu New Yangzijiang. These
latest vessels are due for delivery within 2015 with a price of USD 90 Mill each, and take the total
series to sixteen vessels. Finally in containers, SITC have declared a further four options for 1,800
TEU feeder vessels at CSBC Keelung – which takes the series to eight firm vessels, pricing is in the
region USD 23 Mill each with delivery from mid-2015 and into 2016.
A relatively active week in the small LPG carrier market, starting with Odfjell Gas Carriers contracting
four firm 17,000 CBM LPG/Ethylene carriers with Sinopacific Group. Pricing was reported in the region
USD 45 Mill with delivery in the second half of 2015 and first half of 2016. Agodco are also understood
to have declared the third in a series of 7,200 CBM at Kyokuyo, with delivery in 2015 and pricing
around USD 20 Mill. At Kitanihon, Brave Maritime have placed an order for two of both 3,500 and
5,000 CBM LPG carriers. Pricing is undisclosed, however delivery of all four vessels in understood to
be planned for 2015.
