Strengths of the Software: This software has various worksheets that have to do with document
analysis. The worksheets are clear, easy to understand and offer multiple skill levels.
Suggestions for Improvement: The Worksheets do a great job of scaffolding how to analyze
various documents/artifacts but do so in a rather mundane way. It would be fun to see the
worksheets integrated into an online game that gives students rewards/points for answering
the questions correctly as well as a way to explain what they missed if they get it incorrect.

INSTRUCTIONAL SOFTWARE

Description of how to implement in the class:

The worksheets are available online at https://www.archives.gov/education/lessons/worksheets. Students and teachers can access the
documents either with a computer or phone. In my particular scenario students will be using the written document worksheet for
intermediate or secondary level students. There is an option to scaffold for students with learning disabilities, Esol, novice and younger
students by using the appropriate worksheet selection.

Students will be given a choice of several documents including the Marshall Plan, MacArthur’s plan for japan, and the Warsaw Pact.
Mixed ability groups will be assigned. Each group will have a different plan to analyze but there will be repetition (unless the artifact
worksheet is used as a supplement). The students will demonstrate knowledge mastery and retention by teaching the class briefly
about their particular document. Depending on class size the artifact worksheet can be used as a supplement to have each group give a
different presentation. Not only will the students analyze central ideas of primary sources and provide a summary but they will also
create a PowerPoint and teach their findings to the class.

* Examples of common instructional models include whole group, teacher-led, student self-paced, small
group, or individual learning activities. Use as many of these descriptors or other descriptors as apply.
