NEWS WRITING AND REPORTING

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE PAPER-SETTER


The question paper will consist of five sections : A,B,C,D and E. Sections A,B,C and D will
have two questions from the respective sections of the syllabus and will carry 15 marks each. Section
E will consist of 10 short-answer type questions which will cover the entire syllabus uniformly and
will carry 20 marks in all. Each question will carry two marks.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE CANDIDATES


Candidates are required to attempt one question each from the sections A,B,C and D of the
question paper and the entire section E.

- Major beats (Crime, Parliament, sports, Health, Education, science)

- Scoops and Exclusives

SECTION-C

- Role of Computer and Mobile in News gathering, reporting and transmission


- Difference between Journalistic and literary writings
- News agencies (PTI, UNI, Reuters, AFP, AP);
- Online Reporting

SECTION-D
- Essentials of good Reporting
- Qualities of a Reporter
- Types of Reporting
- Functions and responsibilities of a reporter in Democracy
- Online Reporting

Note : Viva will be taken by the experts from the Department of Journalism and Mass
Communication, Punjabi University, Patiala.
