 ASSIGNMENT

Our company has given a prestigious contract of building 500m length pre-stressed concrete bridge on a
national highway crossing the major river. The restricted available width is 100 m and length is 300m on
both sides of highway, working the site set up.

To mobilize the site,the management gave instructions to house 350 tons cement,300tons of steel,2-size
crawler- tractor dozer, mobile crane- 1no.,jcb – 1no.,dumpers – 10 nos., labour men force – 100mens.,
adiition to this site office complete with communication setup.

Here, we are discussing my plan oraganising the site,with layout sketch details shown in.

The wind direction is from west to east and bridge direction east to west.
 PRE - MOBILZATION OF STUDIES

Once the project contract is signed by the company.The execution of the project will start.

For mobilization of workers a detailed plan is prepared before the start of work. Manpower, materials,
equipments and plant etc., allocation is forecasted and provision made for the same.

Handing over the site is on the papers before that required needs to be complete the formalities like bank
guarantees, financial requirements, funds like advance payments would take place in due course.

The time required to complete these formalities would be used for the study of project, start up plan,
organising the site mobilization.

Site organisation plays very important role to engineers in site management.It depends on the work executed,site
managing,scheduling,planning,estimating to get productive work,effective methods of work environment bylarge with
its stages of work,category.

Due to involvement of so many agencies in the construction sector like clients,consultants,contractors,government

authorities,traffic chaos in highways involved.So, we need proper co-ordination from these agencies and to meet with
it we need to maintain good rapport among them.

Project Manager :

Project Manager must have control over the works involved,he must be competent man with definite direction and
strong inspiration.He is the leader among all as shown in the chart.Resident engineer will be reporting the day to day
of works as per scheduled plan to the project manager.

Resident Engineer/General Project Manager :

He is the supporting to the Project manager.But all functional Head /Incharge of all departments will be reporting to the
Resident Engineer.

The main Aim of Resident Engineer is to maintain coordination among all the staff Enginners Departments,Accounts
Department,Contractors,consultancy,Arcitects,Suppliers.

Different Departments Under the Supervision of Resident Engineer :

PLANNING DEPARTMENT:

Responsibility :

The planning department must plan the each and every work as per various time schedules like bar chart ,material
chart, work schedule chart, making labour chart, given by the client,coordination.

Personnel structure and reporting :

Planning Engineers also appointed for supporting planning Manager in Designing basic Plans,Reports,Ideas
improving the work Efficient with the Productivity.

Execution Department :

Role Involved :

They Must Check the work is Happening as per Latest Drawing Plans and specifications.

Personnel structure and reporting :

Here Execution Engineer /Supervisors will be reporting the work to the Execution Engineer In charge.
STORE DEPARTMENT :

RESPONSIBILITY:

Store in charge will check the materials coming to site inspect,suggest to respective dept,he must issue the material
with inward/outward slips and maintaining the registers at site by MRN.

Storing and housing of material in proper way with safe and secured as per site conditions required.

Materials returned or came back must be checked verified and informed to the project manager/resident engineer.

Store Manger is incharge of Stores Department and store assistant with help of store keeper will be reporting the
activities to the Store Incharge.

QUALITY DEPARTMENT :

RESPONSIBILITY:

QUALITY DEPARTMENT role is to check material coming to site inspect with testing in lab,verifying with apparatus
,verifying the site design mix with all steps perfectly so that work does not hamper .

Checking of all activities of excecution of work in quality norms and conditions,testing of materials like Non-
destructive material in site,lab test for steel,Cube test,Cement analysis,Sand etc., to be conducted in quality
norms,informed to Resident Engineer,he should also prepare Audit Reports on daily basis,weekly,monthly,so that the
Quality stands first.

Personnel structure and reporting:

Quality Manager is the head of the dept.The quality engineer will Assit the quality manager and he will report to the
Quality Manager.

ESTIMATE ENGINEER/QUANTITY SURVEYING ENGINEER :

He will check the drawings,plans required for estimating the quantity of Materials(BOQ),labour required quatity for
each item of works,making estimations separetly for each item of works.

Personnel structure and reporting:

Quality engineer is the head of the dept.Junior engineers will Assist/support the Estimation Engineer.Junior engineers
will check all basic plans and calculate the quatity of materials ,BOQ under supervision of the Estimation Engineer.

ACCOUNTING /BILLING DEPARTMENT :

Checking of all bills quoted by contractor & sub-contractors as per site executed works,making payments for
contractors is the main work for billing dept.

Keeping total amount expentidure regarding the site works,staff salaries,house keeping salaries,and departmental
works payments on weekly basis.

Accounts manager is the Head of the Dept,Accounts staff will support the Accounts staff.

SERVICE DEPARTMENT :

Responsibility :

Arrangement Of Materials In Site ,Reparing Equipments,Electric Supply,Generators Maintenance,Machinery,Reparing

Of Electrical,Equipments Is The Main Work.

Personnel Structure And Reporting :

In This Dept All Electrician,Plumber,Skilled Workers,Welder,Mechanic,Will Work Under Supervision Of

Junior.Engineer,Junior Engineer Will Directly Report To The Service Engineer.

SAFETY ENGINEER AND HEALTH DEPT. :

Responsibilty :

The Main Role Of This Dept Is Take Precautionary Measures With Safe Health Practices,Safety Norms At Site,To
Avoid On Toward Incidents With The Workers And Staff Health Conditions.

Making Arrangements Of Safe Clean Drinking Water, Medicines,Hygeine Maintenance In Labour Camps/Huts,Site
Cleaning On Day To Day Basis,Periodically Checking The Camps As When Required To Avoid Health Hazards.

ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT :

Supervision And Arranging All Site Office Requirements & Facilitating Staff.Site Inward & Outward Registers To Be
Maintained Is The Main Work Of The Dept.

Admin-Incharge And Their Assts. Are Responsible For This Work.
