Example of Jet Grouting Tool Soilcrete - Jet Grouting
THE TECHNIQUE
Jet grouting, patented by the Keller Group plc as ‘Soilcrete©’; is a
technique which utilities basic design/construction principles to
significantly strengthen the soil conditions by eroding soil particles
and mixing them with cementitious products under high pressure.
The grout; under high pressure, is forced through the loose soils in a
cylindrical motion, thus forming somewhat of a ‘pile type’ structure.
The resultant outcome is a solidified cylinder of grout and soil and
a compacted outer ring due to the high pressure and increased
density due to the cementitious product. Jet grouting technique is
highly versatile; being employed in a wide variety of soil types; it
is vibration free and does not produce spoil, thus is a cost effective
ground improvement technique.

THE PROCESS
Highly pressurized air and/or water mixed with grout, is forced
through a combination of nozzle heads at the toe of an augur and
is known to ‘cut’ or ‘erode’ the surrounding soil, with a velocity
≥100m/sec. This technique is a ‘bottom-up’ process and commences
at the design depth, by first eroding the surrounding soils whilst
simultaneously filling the voids with the strengthening grout. The
nozzle and auger mast are kept in constant rotation, whilst being
slowly withdrawn from the ground producing a cylindrical pile-like
structure. The resultant mixture of soil and grout create what is
known as ‘Soilcrete©’.

Some soil type scenarios require a pre-drilled borehole (up to

150mm OD) in order to reach the design depth and hence capacity.
To do so a bentonite or grout-like product may be used to stabilise
the soil whilst the boring head is swapped over to the jet grouting
nozzle.

KGE employs the traditional jet grouting techniques as follows;

Quality Assurance
Single Fluid Jet Grouting (Soilcrete S)
KGE can monitor and record up to 12
Double Fluid Jet Grouting (Soilcrete D)
different parameters depending on the
client’s requirements Triple Fluid Jet Grouting (Soilcrete T)

SuperJet Grouting
THE DESIGN Elements
One of the most important design
considerations for jet grouting is the
soil cohesion factor, which determines
and predicts the erodibility of the soil
and thus the quality and appropriate
jet grouting design.

It is also important to consider the

application of the jet grouting, being a
fill-in product to providing structural
support/rigidity. As such KGE is
capable of producing deep foundations Panel wall with sealing slab
(in low head rooms or open space),
column walls/non-permeable secant
pile walls, box walls, panel walls, slab
sealants, pile/sheet pile sealant joints
or any combination thereof.

Ask KGE regarding your

specific design requirements

effective and efficient design
for your project.
Underpinnin elements

Pre-Construction
KGE conducts site inspections/investigations to gather any
unknown design and construction data. Once this data has
been processed, KGE will mobilise to site bringing with them a
storage container, drill rig, air compressor (as required), pump (as
required), and water / mixing tanks (as required).

During Construction
KGE will monitor all the parameters during the construction
process and will record the relevant data to ensure the correct
procedure has been followed and provided to the client.

Post Construction
KGE will compile all the relevant QA data and submit that to the
client (as agreed upon, or requested by the client).
