Describe a small segment of a narrative that could occupy 20-30 seconds of a short
animation or cut scene from a game where your character does something that conveys
emotion: funny, sad, surprised, etc. An example would be something like this: A kid in a
karate gi stands in front of a board ready to attempt to snap it. The board is suspended
between two cinder blocks as the kid tries every move to break the board, but the board
will not budge. Finally, after falling on the floor, he sits up and leans on the board with his
elbow, chin resting on his palm with the look of frustration on his face. The board snaps
and he falls again with a thud and dust puffs up.
Herez sees a girl struggling to carry a bag of flour outside her bakery. Attempting to flirt with her
by showing off his physical strength, he grabs two bags each palmed in one hand. The girl is
impressed at first, and assumes he is about to help her carry the rest of the bags. However, Herez
continues to strike different poses while holding the bags of flour. He seems to forget the girl is
there, infatuated by his own strength. The girl stops anticipating help, gets annoyed and walks
away. When Herez snaps out of his own personal bubble, he is sad to see that the girl has left and
assumes she was unimpressed.
The motivation and creation of the character is inspired by Ares and Mars, the different iterations
of the Greek and Roman god. Herez is the French iteration of this god, after the fall of the
Roman empire. Clinging to power, he travels to Napoleon’s France, expecting the next great
civilization to worship him. Unfortunately for him, few people believe in his existence anymore,
so his goal is to prove his worthiness to regain his worshippers.
