Penalty: Deduct 0.5 mark for each inconsistent spacing or alignment or missing 2 nd page heading (a maximum of 2 marks each).
Content For each of the following consider the level of persuasiveness and politeness of the script and award:
C1 Statement or expression of interest in the job
C2 States source of the job –advertisement (where, when)
Mentions specific
C3 (1) qualifications or experience using
(2) a frame or reference that matches the need of the employer
C4 Highlights specific characteristics or personality that are of interest to the prospective employer
C5 Shows how the applicant is able to contribute (in terms of skills and abilities) to the company
C6 States what is it about working specifically for the company that excites or appeals to the applicant (indicate that
candidate has done some background research about the company).
C7 Requests for an interview (either at the employer’s convenience, or mentions where and how the applicant can be

Language Appropriateness
Marks Description: Language is
5 Excellent Always appropriate (appropriate choice of words). Tone is polite and formal.
4 Good Almost always appropriate (one or two words are not fitting). Tone is polite and formal.
3 Satisfactory Sometimes appropriate (three or four words are not fitting). Tone is slightly less polite and less formal.
2 Poor Often appropriate (many words are not fitting). Tone is less polite and casual.
1 Very Poor Mostly inappropriate (unsuitable words are being used in most parts). Tone is not polite and careless.
0 Extremely Poor Unacceptable for a job application letter.

Part 2: Marking scheme for resume (17 marks)
Layout
Major sections are in bold or in upper case (if the resume has two pages it needs to have a header)
Information is logically organized and details can be seen at a glance
Penalty:
Deduct 0.5 mark for each inconsistent spacing or alignment or missing 2 nd page heading (a maximum of 2 marks each).

5 Excellent Error free. Tenses are correct. Coherent and cohesive.
4 Good Almost error free. One or two errors. Text flow quite well.
3 Satisfactory Some errors but meaning is clear.
2 Poor Numerous errors but meaning can still be understood.
1 Very Poor Full of errors and meaning is impeded.
0 Extremely Poor Incomprehensible.
Overall total = Total raw marks for cover letter + total raw marks for resume = 48 marks
Convert the overall total to 20%; and round up to TWO decimal points.
