CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS: A Student-Led Group Residency

‘Practice and Research in Action’

25th-30th June 2018 at the Sidney Nolan Trust, Powys
Funded by Arts and Humanities Research Council, North West Consortium Doctoral Training Partnership.

On the strength of our successful arts residency in 2017, we invite applications for a second five-night residency for
up to 12 practice-based PhD researchers. The aim is to offer an intense period of research in the rural and well-
equipped setting of the Sidney Nolan Trust Arts Centre. (www.sidneynolantrust.org/green-room-blog)

• develop individual and/or collaborative bodies of artworks

• work together in a shared studio space
• exchange knowledge, processes and skills
• develop research methodologies in a supportive environment
We welcome a wide range research interests to promote cross-disciplinary networking. Participants will learn from
each other and get inspiration from the landscape and work of Sidney Nolan, conduct walks (as a mode of
thinking/exploration) and interrogate the processes around making and research.
Participants will co-produce a public event which will take place during the residency (e.g. exhibition, performance,
installation, screening). Discussions, skill-sharing and presentations will centre around the advantages and challenges
of combining practice and research, opening-up debates around the impact of this research beyond the academy.

See what we did at last year’s residency on our website: http://practiceandresearchinactionresidency.harts.online/

NWCDTP Funding includes: Site fees, basic farmhouse accommodation in shared rooms and tents; travel
expenses, and a group allowance for self-catering food.

Commitments - participants will:

• Share skills, present works-in-progress and contribute to our dedicated blog.
• Contribute to the cooking, housekeeping and smooth running of the shared accommodation.
• Contribute to a collaborative public event during the residency.
• Complete a personal, post-residency evaluation.
