The Cryx Colossal follows the typical Cryx design for jacks - slightly weaker and less ARM
& hitpoints than other Colossals. Still, being a colossal, it gains the typical STR, ARM, and
Newbie Page damage box boost, making it very durable compared to normal-sized jacks.

Rules Clarifications Colossal - Colossals are giant warjacks, even bigger and stompier. They all share a
Mk I Archive stack of standard special rules.
Terrain Archive Amphibious - This model ignores the effects of deep and shallow water. While in
deep water, this model does not block LoS, can't be targeted by magic/ranged
attacks, and can only attack models also in deep water. Amphibious Warjacks do not
have their furnace extinguished in water.
Kill Shot – The Kraken can make a single ranged attack ignoring ROF once per
activation if it destroys a living enemy model in melee. Note that colossals can make
ranged attacks while in melee.
Collector - When the Kraken kills a living enemy model in melee, it removes the
model from play and gains a corpse token. The Kraken may have a maximum of three
corpse tokens. Corpse tokens may be turned into focus during your Control Phase,
or you can hang onto them to buff your weapons (via Doom Driver & Meat Fueled)
Meat Fueled – Every corpse token it holds adds +1 to the Kraken's STR.

Thoughts on the Kraken

Kraken in a nutshell
Just plain dangerous. A good strategy is to wade into enemy infantry, sweep up some
corpse tokens, then use the resulting Kill Shot to land a solid hit against an enemy heavy
with the Hell Blaster.

The Kraken provides Cryx with one of the best guns in the game, something they noticeably
lacked. With a full corpse token load its shots are POW 17 with a 24" threat range and POW
10 blast damage! The ranged prowess of the Kraken is not something Cryx particularly
craved, but it is a welcome addition to the arsenal.

In melee, with max corpse tokens, the Kraken has the second-highest P+S in the game.

The kraken can remove bothersome model permanently from the table, preventing them from
ever coming back (except Haley the third's ghost). This also means that a living warbeast
removed by the kraken wont be reaved by it's warlock. Eat them fury!

Combos & Synergies

Mortenebra is a great warcaster with any warjack, and the Kraken is no exception.
Most of her spells will be brilliant at supporting the Kraken. Sadly, the inability to
benefit from Overrun (outside of activation) puts the Kraken in competition with
warjacks who can utilize it and makes the Kraken a less attractive option for
Mortenebra players. (You can still put Overrun on the Kraken itself, and it could use
it during its own activation).
The Witch Coven of Garlghast loves the Kraken, and it is easy to see why. Infernal
Machine combined with Curse of Shadows makes the Kraken a real monster in
combat. Its huge base is great for hiding the Egregore and Witches, and mitigates

one of this warcaster's major weaknesses. Nightfall is also one of the rare abilities
that can successfully hide a colossal, as it removes enemy LOS rather than providing
Stealth to the Kraken.
Skarre2 loves the Kraken.
With her Black Spot spell, you can use the Hell Blaster every time you trigger
Black Spot with a ranged attack, giving you a chance of six Hell Blaster shots
per activation!
Death Ward is a solid ARM buff, and the ability to choose which column
takes damage on the Kraken's unique colossal damage grid will make sure the
Hell Blaster stays operational.
Fate Weaver ensures that the Kraken will not be scrapped within the first few
rounds of the game. Notice, however, that Kraken cannot be targeted by
Skarre2's feat (due to errata), though you can always target enemy models
that present the biggest threat to the Kraken.
While Terminus really doesn't like to share his focus with warjacks, a case can be
made for the Kraken. Terminus players can attest to how nice it is for Terminus to
hide behind a base bigger than his. Ravager is also a great buff on such a hard-
hitting warjack. The 'remove from play' mechanic from Collector does put the Kraken
in direct conflict with Terminus and his lust for souls, but then again so do a lot of
the usual Cryxian units.

Drawbacks & Downsides

Certain enemy abilities can deny the Kraken a corpse token and/or Kill Shot:
Any ability that triggers on "disabled" will activate before Collector (which activates
on "boxed"). If that ability results in the model surviving the attack or being
removed from play, then the Kraken cannot get a corpse token
Any ability that removes the Kraken's victim from play (e.g. Self Sacrifice, Sanguine
Bond) will prevent both Collector and Kill Shot from triggering.

Rules Clarificaitons
Classification
The Kraken is a warjack and a colossal, but it is not a Helljack. It will not get a point
discount in Mortenebra's theme. Infernal Ruling

Doom Driver
Note that, when calculating blast damage you halve the base POW then add the
Doom Driver bonus.

Collector
Despite the odd wording of "If this model has less than 3, it can gain more," the
Kraken can only have a maximum of three corpse tokens at one time. Infernal
Ruling

Kill Shot + Black Spot

Melee attacks won't grant Black Spot attacks unless you're full of corpses, because
Collector RFPs the model before Black Spot can trigger.
Black Spot must be the same type (melee or ranged) as your initial attack type.
Infernal ruling
If you are making melee attacks, Black Spot will grant melee attacks.
You can use Kill Shot as per normal but if the Kill Shot with the gun destroys
a Black Spotted model, the attack you gain will be a melee attack. Weird, eh?

If you are making ranged attacks, Black Spot will grant ranged attacks that
ignore ROF. You can get a ridiculous number of Hellblaster shots. Infernal
Ruling

Rapid Fire edit

You roll for the number of initial attacks at the beginning of your combat action,
before making any attacks with any weapon. Infernal Ruling
If you roll for number of attacks, you're committed to making those attacks. Infernal
Ruling . You can't change your mind and use a Cumbersome weapon (Strakov) or a
Covering Fire mode (Stormwall) instead.
If you have 2 rapid fire weapons, you roll the d3 separately for each.

Chain Strike edit

When you make a melee attack during your activation you're in melee with
everything within 4", not just your target. Terror checks will be triggered
accordingly.
You use your normal melee range outside your activation (for free strikes,
determining whether you're in melee, etc).

Power Attack: Sweep edit

Sweep does not benefit from weapon abilities. For instance a Kraken won't gain 4"
from Chain Strike Infernal Ruling nor will a Stormwall gain Electroleap Infernal
Ruling
The melee range of a colossal is divided into a Left and Right arc. This means that a
Sweep attack can only hit models in a 90-degree arc.
A colossal does not add the POW of a sweeping weapon to the damage rolls
resulting from that sweep (although the STR of a colossal is formidable enough that
this shouldn't matter).
You need LOS to your targets, meaning the back-rank of densely packed troops

have a chance of being completely unaffected despite being within 2". Infernal
Ruling
