I am excited to be part of the first edition of the Kanata-Stittsville

Community Voice. Watch for my column in each issue where I will share
news about meetings in the ward, community items and my view on issues
at City Hall. Congratulations, and thank you, to the Community Voice for
bringing back a community paper.

TOWN HALL FEBRUARY 26, 7 PM, MLACAK CENTRE, 2500 Campeau - Join me
for a presentation on a new Microtel Hotel, hear about the closure of Goulbourn
Forced Road and view revised plans from the Kanata Muslim Association and
reconstruction of Allenby Park. Other topics are about blasting in new
developments this year and plans for the mosquito program. A full agenda will be
on my website by February 23. You can also join us live streamed on Facebook
Live at or after the meeting date.

HYDRO ONE – Hydro One has developed plans for removing or trimming
vegetation in their corridor from the railway to the 417 during the past few
weeks. The procedure developed for easements on private lands has
worked well and is now complete. I am working with City staff and Hydro
One to get detailed plans to minimize loss of trees and shrubs on City
parkland. Many thanks to the residents who have been working with me and
Hydro One, for more than 6 months, to come up with a system that can now
be used throughout the entire city.

GOULBOURN FORCED ROAD (GFR) CLOSURE - The GFR is now closed

from Keyrock to the Richcraft Complex entrance near Innovation Drive for
blasting, installation of a watermain & road construction. Please note that if
you need to do a u-turn, do so according to the Traffic Act – from a left turn
lane giving way to other vehicles and pedestrians. This is particularly
important at Keyrock and the GFR where the crossing guard has priority in
stopping traffic for children to cross. Thank you for sending me your
comments - we are keeping a close eye on the impacts and I have stressed
to the contractors the need to keep a way open for pedestrians and cyclists
and to reopen the road as soon as possible. Please use extreme caution,
particularly in school zones as many children walk to and from school.

COLDEST NIGHT OF THE YEAR WALK – Please join me on February 24th

at the KRC at 5:15 pm to walk in support of Chrysalis House, Kanata’s home
for women and children fleeing from violence. Registration is $25 and you
can donate if you’re not able to do the walk. Add your name to my team
and register at “Coldest Night of the Year”, then join or donate to my team
by going to www.tinyurl.com/cnoymarianneteam/ . A light supper is provided.

ALLENBY PARK’s playground is old and can no longer be maintained. It is

not accessible to all users so it will be fully rebuilt this year. View two
concepts on my website and come to a special meeting on the park design
February 27th, 7 pm in the Minto Room at the Richcraft Recreation Complex.
The park planner is anxious to hear your suggestions.

FAMILY DAY FREE SKATE – Thanks to everyone who came to the Family
Day Free Skate and to the Kanata Muslim Association and Loblaws Centrum
for their donation of the cookies and hot chocolate for the event. Special
thanks to MP Karen McCrimmon, my co-host. Everyone enjoyed a fun
afternoon.
INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY BREAKFAST this year is on March 6, 7am at
the Mlacak Center. Our guest speaker is Jenna Sudds who will be speaking about
"The Future of Work". Technology impacts all aspects of our lives, from daybreak
until we retire at night. The pace of innovation and change is speeding up. How will
it affect our work, home life and the careers of our children and grandchildren? All
women in Kanata North are welcome to attend. Register on-line at Eventbrite
http://tiny.cc/IWDwMarianne as space is limited. I am the guest speaker that
evening at Councillor Hubley’s IWD event.

MARCH BREAK ACTIVITIES AT THE BEAVERBROOK LIBRARY – Are you

looking for things to do during March Break? Why not go to the Library.
The Beaverbrook Library is hosting many fascinating activities for your
children – from making the best snow fort or a music instrument from an
item from the recycle bin to dancing and lots more. Detailed information is
on my website and at the Library. Events will also be happening in libraries
across the City that week.
