Lesson Procedure:
a: Hook – Use the Andy Warhol Inspired Tennis Shoe print to see if
students can recognize an array and multiplication sentence.
b: Instructional Steps
1. Introduce students to the works of Andy Warhol and the concept
of “Pop Art”
2. Explain the process of printmaking, tools, and techniques (see
PowerPoint)
3. Have students choose a “common object” to sketch in which to create their print
4. Distribute Styrofoam print plates for students to transfer their drawings
5. Set up four print stations with 4 different ink colors, brayers and paper
6. Students will rotate to each station to print (washing print plates in between)
7. The next day (when prints are dry) students will use oil pastels to add accent colors to their
prints.
8. I will take pictures of each students’ prints and create color array prints for them.
c: Formative Assessment – Students will create multiplication number sentences from their
array prints.
d: Summative Assessment -In addition, students will complete a detailed word problem to
match their multiplication number sentence and print array.
e: Closing – Students will share their array prints with 3 other students to have them create
multiplication number sentences for their arrays.
