1. Now analyze your drawing.

To what extent does this classroom reflect the following five

keys to good room arrangement?
a. Use a room arrangement consistent with our instructional goals and activities.
b. Keep high traffic areas free of congestion.
c. Be sure students are easily seen by the teacher.
d. Keep frequently used teaching materials and student supplies readily accessible.
e. Be certain students can easily see instructional presentations and displays.
a) This classroom consisted of instructional goals they had different goals by keeping
certain parts of the room dedicated to different activities. It had the back-right hand for
three computers right beside the kidney table. Which was in front of the teacher’s desk. It
had a storage cabinet with different drawers dedicated to certain classroom papers. The
whiteboard was in the front so that the students come in and see what they should do in
the morning. As well as the projector on with the elmo to give instructions.
2. What are any strengths and/or weaknesses of this arrangement? Would rearrangements
make this classroom a more effective learning environment?
The strengths of this classroom would be that they are all centered toward the front of the
classroom and it makes it easy for them to concentrate when the teacher is up at the
whiteboard or near the projector to give them their assignment with instructions. The only
weakness would be that the classroom is so cluttered and tight. There are seventeen
students in groups of four or five and they have a small spot on the carpet to sit when
they have to go on the floor for math. The computers and the kidney table are arm length
apart from each other as well as the teacher’s desk is right behind the kidney table. The
room is not designed for maximum space for twenty desk and still have three shelves in
the front for all the books that the teacher has.
1. OBSERVING STUDENTS IN THE CLASS:
a. How many and what age and gender are the students in the class?
i. There are 17 students: 9 girls and 8 boys. They are between the age of 6 and 7.
b. Are there students who appear to be isolates? What behavior (s) let you to believe this?
i. There are none of the students that are isolated.
c. Which students appear to raise their hand often?
i. The girls from the front seem to raise their hand more often than the boys in
general.
d. How is the behavior of those students who sit in back of the room?
i. The behavior from the students in the back seem to have a distracted mind. As
if they cannot seem to stay still.
e. Which students appear to receive the most praise?
i. They all get equal praise when they are well behaved to answering the question
to best of their knowledge.
f. Which students seem to be ignored?
i. There are no students that seem to be ignored when I was observing the
classroom.

Summarize what you have found about the students in this class. Who are they and what
is it like to “live” in this school?
I have found that there are students that are willing to participate and some that do
not because they are not as confident as the others. I noticed there were two students in
my classroom observation that seem to be a bit off and as I asked the teacher if the
student has a mind of their own, she commented to me that those were the students that
seem to have a special need but the parents are in denial and think it is boredom that is
the problem. As I could see that the two students either seem to have a really bad case of
ADHD. The teacher assured me that she had thought the same as well as other teachers
and principle that has cam to observe the child. It was a girl name Adriana and a boy
named Benjamin, they both sat in the back of the classroom with two other students that
were higher on the education scale to ground them back into the lecture. On the other
hand, I had seemed to notice that the teacher would spend equal amount of time with both
to review what the lecture had been about and what they knew what to do. She had held
them to how a first grader should act and develop, as all they seem to have was an
attention problem. I had also observed that all the students in this classroom were all well
behaved and had a good connection with the teacher. When the teacher would clap, they
would repeat or if the teacher would whisper the directions, they would lower their voices
and pay attention to the teacher and whisper back to her response. To live in this school
with my observation teacher would be amazing. As Ms. Petersen is an amazing teacher
and knows how to incorporate her teaching style to not just to the two children that seem
to interrupt class but to everyone. She follows the rule that a child feeds off of you, and
that being said if you seem irritated at them they will know and not listen. I have learned
a lot from this classroom. I learned that there comes a time where patience is key and
knowing that every child can succeed not by the teacher but as well through their peers. If
you give a student the ability to pick on what independent study to do they will find the
one they love and even ask another student to join them so they can share knowledge.
Living in this classroom for the ten hours was not enough for me as the students seem to
grow on me and I love to say that I miss interacting with the children. To keep the
progress of me learning even asked the teacher if I can continue going until the school
ends to help her and keep observing to further educate my own self.
