House Math Quiz (Math Wizard) Competition


Group-1 (Grade 3- 5) Date – Nov 3, 2017

1. Every house team will comprise of ten students in the following ways:
Ø Two students each from grade 1 to grade 5. There must be at least two girl participants from
each house i.e. at least 1 girl participant from grade 1-2 and at least 1 girl participant from
grade 3-5.
2. The questions in different rounds will be asked from Numbers, Algebra, Geometry, Measures,
Handling Data and Problem Solving from their respective class curriculum.

3. The details of the rounds are as follows:

• Round-1: (SERIOUS OR JOKING)
This round is for the students of grade 3rd only. Other team members are not allowed to sit
with them in this round. Each team will be asked four questions from algebra, arithmetic,
geometry and general Math. The questions cannot be passed to the other houses in this
round. Use of pen and paper is not permitted. The time limit for answering each question is
10 seconds only.

• Round-2: (MATH MANIACS)
This round is for the students of grade 3rd and 4th only. Other team members are not allowed
to sit with them in this round. Each team will be asked two direct questions from algebra,
arithmetic, mensuration, statistics, geometry and general Math. The questions can be passed
to the other houses in this round. Use of pen and paper is permitted. The time limit for
answering each direct question is 30 seconds and for each passed question is 10 seconds
only.

• Round-3: (MENTAL MATH)
This round is for the students of grade 5th only. However, students of other classes of a
particular team may sit together during this round. Each team will be asked three direct
questions based on mental Math. The questions can be passed to the other houses in this
round. Use of pen and paper is not permitted. The time limit for answering each direct
question is 30 seconds and for each passed question is 10 seconds only.

• Round-4: (FAST AND FURIOUS)
This is a buzzer round and is for all members of each team. A total of 10 questions will be
asked to all the teams. The team pressing the buzzer quickest will be asked the question. The
correct answer will give the team 10 points and the wrong answer will result in 5 negative
points. Each question will be live for 30 seconds only. The use of writing material is not
allowed.

• Round-5: (RAPID FIRE)
This round is for the students of grade 4th and 5th only. Other team members are not allowed
to sit with them in this round. Each team will be asked a maximum of 10 question from
algebra, arithmetic, mensuration, statistics, geometry and general Math and mental math
within two minutes. The questions can be passed to the other houses in this round. Use of
pen and paper is not permitted. A bonus of 20 points will be awarded to the teams giving a
minimum of 8 correct answers.

4. Each direct question carries ten (10) points and each passed question carries five (5) points.
5. Only the first response will be accepted. No chorus answer will be accepted even if the answer is
right.
6. The quiz master can penalize team with negative points in case the decorum of the quiz is not
maintained.
7. In case of tie/s, a total of three tiebreaker questions will be asked.
8. Prompting by house teachers or audience members is strictly forbidden. If the quiz master suspects
prompting, it is his right and responsibility to discard the question and penalize negative points to
that particular house. Prompters or members of the audience who do not remain quiet will be asked
to leave the room. If prompting has occurred, the participating team may be disqualified,
9. The questions will be displayed on the screen with the help of projector during round-1, round-2,
round-3 and round-4.
10. In case of any dispute, the quiz master’s decision will be the final.
11. Students are to be selected strictly on the basis of the tests conducted by Maths teachers.
12. The last date of sending entries is Monday, October 30th, 2017.
