Die Konstruktion des Hauptgebäudes,

das eine Sporthalle, Leichtathletikanlagen,
und eine Cafeteria beherbergt, setzt sich
aus zehn linear verlaufenden Dachbögen
mit einer Breite von je 7,60 m zusammen,
die zusammen wie eine breite Arkade
wirken. Mit einer Höhe von 11 m bietet
die Halle maximale organisatorische
Flexibilität.
Ein Service-Bereich (Umkleiden, Duschen,
Seminarräume usw.) bildet den Über-
gang zwischen dem Säulengang am Ein-
gang und dem Innenbereich der Sport-
hallen. Die zehn Bögen sind mit durch-
gehenden modularen Deckenelementen
bedacht. Oberlichter sorgen für einen
optimalen Tageslichteinfall in den tiefen

Baukörper. Die aus Stahlbeton gefertig-

ten Außenwände sind mit Mauerwerk
verblendet. Im halbrunden Gebäude mit
Büroräumen und Sportlerunterkünften
befinden sich die Büros im Erdgeschoss,
die Wohnräume sind in den vier Ober-
geschossen angeordnet.
Der Eingangsbereich und der Zugang zur
Dreifachsporthalle sind barrierefrei
gestaltet. Die Mehrzwecksporthalle
(Squashhalle) ist für behinderte Sportler
und Besucher über einen Aufzug erreich-
bar. Auf jeder Etage befindet sich ein
separates behindertengerechtes WC.
Außerdem sind alle Umkleideräume mit
einer behindertengerechten Dusche
ausgestattet. Die Parkplätze für
Behinderte befinden sich auf dem
Gelände des Sportzentrums in
unmittelbarer Nähe der Sporthalle.

The National Youth Sport

Centre in Tenero
The decision of the jury: "The National
Youth Sport Centre in Tenero, Switzer-
land is a successful demonstration of
multi-functional usage design. The project
is an extremely compact group of sports
facilities and administrative-residential
facilities."
The new facilities, which include sports
halls as well as the building with
administrative offices and accomodation
units, are divided into two separate
structures, located north of the main
avenue along which the various activities
of the national sports centre in Tenero
are located. The new buidlings, which
are extremely compact, group the
activities of the sports facilities and those
of the administrative-residential facilities,
in order to streamline and economise the
site of the structures and thus permit
optimum organisation of the green
areas.
The sports hall stretches along the south
front with a broad portico, providing a
shady covered area as a transition point
between the outdoor areas and the
indoor facilities. The administration-
residential building is positioned so that
the long façade of the loggias faces
south, towards the lake, with a
semicircular layout that is completely
closed on the side towards the busy road
in order to protect it against noise
pollution.
The design of the main building, which
includes the gym, athletic facilities and
cafeteria, features ten linear bays, each
of which is 7.60 metres wide; extending
like a wide arcade, this structure rises to
a height of 11 metres for maximum
organisational flexibility of the interior.
A service area separates the exterior
entrance portico from the interior space
of the gyms. The ten bays are covered
with continuous modular vaults with
roof-level windows to let plenty of natur-
al light into the cavernous depth of the
interior. The exterior walls, made of
reinforced concrete, are clad with brick-
work. In the semicircular building with
the administrative offices and athletes'
accomodations, the offices are located
on the ground floor, while the living
areas are on the four upper floors.

The entrance areas and the access to the

triple sports hall are free of obstacles.
The access to the multipurpose sports
hall is possible by means of an elevator
suitable for the disabled. Access to the
first floor (changing rooms and the can-
teen) is possible by means of an elevator
suitable for the disabled. On every floor
there are independent WC's for the
disabled. Every changing room is
provided with a shower suitable for the
disabled. The car parks for the disabled
are within the controlled area and are
close to the sports hall.
