PLAN OF ANALYSIS
YOUR FLEXIBLE PLAN

OCEANA S. MAGEE: DISCOVER YOUR VALUES

STEP 1: GATHER INFORMATION

What values did you identify that are important to you for your work and career?

The following values are important for my work and career: Help society, Work/Life
Balance, (Knowdell Values Assessment, Coursemate material, Creating Career
Success).

How are your values reflected in your reputation?

The values are partially reflected in my reputation. I am often changing my work

schedule to fit in family things, my work is helpful to society and community, the
location I live and work in is directly related to the work I do (recreation, tourist, arts
community), and I work in honesty and integrity doing precision work. The people I
work with exercise competence and work with others and community.
However, I am not working in aesthetics or with creativity directly in my work. I am
considered a laborer with much time working alone and without much deviation from
menial work.
I do create a calendar for broadcast on the local radio station, which announces art
and cultural events, but I rarely attend them.
I do attend my children’s school events such as concerts and plays, and together, we
also go to the local gallery walks.
I don’t often attend lectures or seminars or do creative expression.

What values are important to you, but not well-represented by your current career-
related choices?

Values I am not currently reflecting within my career include creative expression,

aesthetics, friendships, change and variety, and work/life balance. In order to maintain
a work/life balance I would need a higher wage so work wouldn’t be a majority of my
schedule, or my occupation would need to better reflect my values and creative
personality type.

STEP 2: EVALUATE THE INFORMATION

What must you do to ensure that your values are consistent with your career goals? For
instance, if your goal is to earn a high salary, you might want to explore careers where

earnings are higher. If creativity is important to you, you will need to identify career
fields where you are able to be creative, and nurture this skill.

Creativity and working with others can be nurtured by joining a community group (such
as a drawing, music, or writing club) and possibly looking into careers where I can
design projects. I have the computer skills to create powerpoints or other presentations
and would enjoy having them be educational or awareness resources for the
community. There are not necessarily local businesses looking for this, though.

What further information do you need about jobs, career fields, or organizations in order
to assess their compatibility with your values? For example, to explore careers with
earnings comparable to your goals, you must learn about salaries for various jobs in the
careers you are exploring.

To assess compatibility of current career interests, jobs, or organizations, I can asses

whether they are supportive of a work/life balance, community, provide opportunities
for public contact and working with others, and if the work atmosphere values honesty
and integrity as well as diversity.

STEP 3: MAKING CONCLUSIONS

Following your analysis, list the top five values that you want to focus on in your career.

☼ Community
☼ Creativity
☼ Working with Others
☼ Location
☼ Family

Reflecting on your skills, preferences, and values assessment, consider how these
complement each other. List career fields that interest you at this time and encompass
all three areas you have assessed.
