SARPI Limay - Recovery of Fluorescent
Lamps (F)

¾ Created in 2002
¾ 2 500 Ton yearly capacity, which means 12 Mio lamps.
¾ MRT Technology
¾ Recovery rate amounts 99,1% as
• Glass to Philips as material recovery,
• End cuts to Steelworks or Aluminum foundries as material recovery
• Mercury and powders to de toxication.

From Inertization to Extraction of Metals -
France

Metals in hazardous waste are an important potential resource. Thanks to a

strong R&D program, SARP Industries has developed 3 approaches to
recover metal from waste flows :
> metal recovery by separation :
Cryogenic pre-treatment line (thermal and mechanical shocks)
ZINC
to separate hazardous waste from recoverable metal

> metal recovery by extraction

Physical Chemical treatments (SARP Industries patent) NICKEL
applied on liquid waste to extract very pure hydroxides (zinc,
nickel, …)

> metal recovery by transformation MANGANESE

Transformation (surface treatment effluents) into pure metal
by electrolytic process

SARP Industries
31
Used Oils Recovery - OSILUB (F)

¾ Objective: Recover Motor used oils into

base Oils or VGO (Vacuum Gas Oil)

¾ In compliance with the EU Directive

75/439/CE, which gives priority to material
recovery prior to energy recovery,

¾ Key Figures:
¾Capacity 120 000t/year of used oils,
¾Operating Personal: ~ 45p,
¾Located in the Harbor of Le Havre,
¾Building period : 18 months

SARP Industries
32
SARPI – Biodiesel Plant in Limay (F)

Capacity of 60 000 t/year, with permit of 45 000 t/y

30 000 t/year of Edible Oils – 30 000 t/year of virgin oils
17 persons
Production starts in April 2009

SARP Industries
33
Future Potential Developments

Development of ‘MARPOL’ facilities: treatment and recovery of

shipping waste (mainly oil),

Industrial Gases,

Development of metal recovery capacities: rare metal recovery

(cobalt, …) from chemical industry catalysts, extraction by liquid / liquid
way, recovery by pyrometallurgic way,

Bio-treatment of contaminated soils,

Chemical Catalysts,

Low Radioactive Waste,

CO2 encapsulation,
