Spice Solar® Installation Tips
Assemble Spice modules and
mounting components for the job.
Lay out attachment points on roof:
65” from bottom to middle holes,
65-3/4 from middle to top holes,
36” ridge setback (if necessary), and
48” rafter spacing (typical).
Drill pilot holes in rafters
Pre-assemble first two modules.
Install two E-W Splices in first module.
Snap second module into first module.
Push down hex bolt on top of E-W
Splice to simplify snap connection.
Tighten E-W Splices between
modules.

Ensure safe work conditions.
Install roof anchors.
Install flashings and L Feet at all
attachment points, following
instructions for flashings.
Loosely tighten all lags so that the lags
are in the center of each L Foot slot.
Install two (or three) T Bolts in lower
slot and two (or three) T Bolts in upper
slot of pre-assembled modules, with
Hex nuts loosely attached to T Bolts.
Install pre-assembled modules in L
Feet.
Do not tighten hex nuts at this time.
Spice Solar Installation Tips – L-Foot Mounting System
From plans, review preliminary layout.
This example on a south-facing roof
has 2 rows of 4 panels.
Attach plumb line to bottom row of L
feet, and tighten lag bolts.
Attach second plumb line to middle
row of L feet, and adjust second row of
L Feet so that spacing is 65” between
L Feet gap (extra ¼” spacing simplifies
installation of modules).
Loosely tighten lag bolts on middle row
of L Feet.
Install third and subsequent modules in
bottom row
Tighten E-W Splices as modules are
installed.
Use boxes to prop up and align
modules as they are installed.

Verify east-west and vertical alignment
of modules on roof.
Adjust modules vertically on L Feet as
needed.
Tighten bottom row hex nuts to L Feet.
Pre-assemble first two modules for
second row.
Tighten E-W Splices between
modules.
Install two (or three) T Bolts in top slot
of pre-assembled modules.
Slide pre-assembled modules into
tabs on N-S Brackets installed in the
middle row of attachments.
DC System Wiring:
Lay home run cable on roof in the
expected location of junction boxes.
As each module is mounted, use Wire
Management clips to secure junction
box and home run wire to back of
panel so that wire does not sag.

Loosen lag bolts on L Feet on middle
row so that L Feet are flush with side
of modules.
Tighten lag bolts securing L Feet to
roof along middle row.
Lower pre-assembled modules into top
row of L Feet.
Tighten N-S Brackets between
modules.
AC System Wiring:
Lay trunk cable on roof in the expected
location of micro-inverters.
Pre-install micro-inverters on back of
module.
As each module is mounted, use Wire
Management clips to secure trunk
cable to back of panel.
Spice Solar Installation Tips – L-Foot Mounting System
Install N-S Bracket on T Bolt and L
Foot.
Tighten Hex nut securing N-S Bracket.
If necessary, remove bolt to reverse
bracket, then reinstall bolt.
Install third and subsequent modules in
top row.
Tighten E-W Splices and N-S Brackets
as modules are installed,
Adjust top row L Feet flush to side of
modules, and tighten lag bolts on L
Feet.
Verify vertical alignment of top row of
modules, and tighten L Feet to side of
modules.
Torque Specifications:
E-W Splices and N-S Brackets: 7 ft-lbs
Hex nuts on T bolts: 25 ft-lbs
Ground lug bolt: 5 ft-lbs
Ground lug set screw: 2.5 ft-lbs
