This course is designed as an online independent study for seniors taking World
History II at Guamani Private School.

Course Materials:
• Computer Access
• Internet Access
• Email addresses
• Gmail account, to respond to blog posts (accounts are free and private)
• Online access to Glencoe McGraw-Hill textbook and website
• Laptop and headphones would be beneficial to watch assigned movies in library
during class time
• Access to printer, email, or loose-leaf paper to turn in assignments
• Notebook to prepare for writing assignments
• Art materials for one art project per semester (these may also be borrowed from
Ms. Kaufhold’s classroom)

Course Methods:
• Online Blog: The course blog will be used to post assignments, communicate
between classmates and teacher, post Current Global Issues and responses, to post
due dates for assignments, and to keep a document of what we are learning in this
course.
• Current Global Issues: Every week, Ms. Kaufhold will post a news article or
video clip of a current issues. All students are expected to respond to this posting
with a thoughtful answer. Blog post responses must be polite, insightful,
questioning, articulate, using correct grammar. Blog posts must not only respond
to the news story, but also to the postings of your fellow classmates. This
assignment is worth 10 points each week. Remember, there are many weeks in a
semester and these points add up! Don’t forget to respond, you will only have one
week to do so!
• Chapter Vocabulary & Section Reviews: For each chapter listed in the outline
below, please complete all vocabulary (words highlighted in yellow) and each
section review at the end of the sections. It would be best if these are typed and
are emailed to Ms. Kaufhold. (10 points for each section.)
• Additional Assignments: Ms. Kaufhold will provide additional readings,
worksheets, charts that must be completed. These will be sent through email or
posted on the Course Blog.
• Unit Projects: Students must choose 1 project to complete each unit. Students will
always have a choice of what type of project to complete, BUT students may only
choose a certain type of project ONCE. For instance, students may only write one
research essay per semester, create one art project per semester, etc. All projects
will be presented to the 10th grade World History class upon completion.
Presentations are a part of the project grade and are intended to allow students to
practice presentation skills, provide additional information for all classmates, and
allow senior students to serve as role models for 10th grade students.
• Assignments and Due Dates: Please not that some assignments may be subject to
change or additional assignments may be added. You will always have enough
time to complete projects. Due dates, however, will be loose in this class.
Assignments can be completed at the students’ own pace, however I would like
this course to stay at a similar pace to the 10th grade World History class. Chapter
Reviews and assignments should be completed first, and final Projects are due at
the end of each unit. Please make plans with Ms. Kaufhold as to when you will
present your projects to the 10th graders, as these should coincide with the end of
their units as well.
