SOFTWARE
INTRODUCTION

A Who is XL Pro3 CALCUL for? Panels are created automatically when a disconnector is
included in the synoptic diagram.
XL PRO3 CALCUL is a calculation software for low-voltage
electrical installations which guarantees conformity with the Various technical documents can be printed out:
standard selected. - Synoptic diagram
It is also intended for engineering departments that design - Single line diagrams for each distribution block
installations as well as installers, maintenance operators and - Calculation sheets
inspection offices. - Circuit breaker setting logs
- power balance
It is very educational and can also be used in technical
- overall bill of materials
instruction.
- bill of materials by panel
etc.

B Technical specifications Several types of power supply are accounted for:

- HV/LV transformers
- Low voltage power supplies
XL PRO3 CALCUL automatically performs all the calculations
- Alternators
and all the checks connected with the standard:
- LV/LV transformers
- Maximum operating current
- UPS
- Cross-sections of conductors
- photovoltaic
- Overload and short-circuit protection devices
- Additional protection devices to protect people
- Thermal and electrodynamic stresses The calculations carried out are valid for 50/60 Hz sinusoidal
- Voltage drops AC installations, with a nominal voltage of less than 1,000 V
and for DC installations for photovoltaics.
Several complementary calculations are available:, including
automatic power balance, reactive power compensation, The following earth connection schemes can be used:
energy consumption of motors or specific lights, etc. - TT (neutral and exposed conductive parts earthed
separately)
- TN (neutral earthed, exposed conductive parts connected to
The synoptic diagram of the installation is drawn
the neutral, N and PE conductors separate or together)
automatically.
- IT (impedance earthed neutral, distributed or
non-distributed)

1. Project information The XL PRO3 CALCUL software offers a revision system to
retain details of the state of an electrical installation at a
given point in its design process.
When a new study is created, the XL PRO3 CALCUL software
automatically creates the first revision, with subject "Creating

When you want to retain details of the state of the electrical
installation, simply add a revision by right-clicking on the

may ask you if you want to save modifications made to the
current revision before moving on to the new revision. The
revision index is managed automatically. You can enter the
subject of the revision and change the date that has been
initialised at the current date.
When a study file is opened, the XL PRO3 CALCUL software
automatically loads the state of the installation at the most
recent revision. To change revision, simply select the revision
from the list then click on the Load the installation with the
selected revision button. If the revision that has been loaded
is not the most recent one, the installation will be in read-only
mode, i.e. you cannot modify the structure of the installation.

1. General introduction
The synoptic diagram displays the single line diagram of
the installation. To draw it, various tools (notably, symbol
palettes) and methods are available to you. These are
detailed in the following pages.
The elements and circuits that you have selected and
assembled appear in a colour that corresponds to their state,
the same as the colour used for messages (see page 19).
In order to avoid overloading the diagram, the software
displays only the identification for each element.
Circuits and distribution blocks include the identification of

BACK TO CONTENTS
-D
ouble conversion UPS + ECO mode: this is a double
conversion UPS, to which an energy saving mode has been
added. In ECO mode, the load is supplied as a priority by the
ByPass channel.
When the ByPass channel supply is no longer available (or
outside tolerances), the load is supplied by the inverter,
which is itself supplied by the rectifier or the battery,
depending on the availability of the mains power supply.
-U
PS in direct interaction: in normal mode, the load is
supplied by the mains supply. The inverter is connected in
parallel with the load, and its combination with a power
interface on the upstream supply improves the quality of the
voltage provided. The inverter is reversible, and therefore
also charges the battery. In standalone mode, the power
interface decouples the upstream supply and the load is
supplied by the inverter. When there is a ByPass channel, it
can be directly connected to the main power supply, or to a
replacement power supply (R2).

-U
PS in passive standby: in normal mode, the load is
supplied by the mains supply and the battery is charged by
the rectifier. The inverter is isolated from the load by means
of a switch. In standalone mode, the switch switches the
load onto the inverter, generally with a switching time of
around 10 ms.
This economical topology provides rudimentary protection,
is generally only used for low powers and has no ByPass.

-R
epeat the pattern: the outgoing lines drawn on the
diagram by the user are considered to be "patterns". A value
greater than 1 indicates that the pattern is repeated several
times along the trunking. This makes it possible for example
to enter only one lighting outgoing line for a lighting row
type busbar which in fact has 20 identical lights.
-D
istribution of the outputs: indicate if all the outgoing lines
are at the ends of the busbar. If the supply point is in the
centre, there are outgoing lines at both ends of the busbar
(the distribution of the loads between the two ends does not
matter). If the supply point is at one end, all the outgoing
lines are at the other end. This is the same as using a
transmission busbar supplying a panel containing all the
outgoing lines. Indicate Patterns regularly spaced along the
entire length if the pattern is repeated several times and the
outgoing lines are regularly spaced along the busbar and all
20 lights are identical.
(For example: a lighting busbar that has one light every 2 m).
The software then considers that the load is distributed in a
uniform way along the trunking for calculating the voltage
drops. Indicate Any or Unknown in all other cases. The
software then takes all possible positions into account for
carrying out each type of calculation under the "least
favourable conditions".

An additional item, input of the geometry, is used to indicate

how the incoming and outgoing lines are positioned along the
trunking. This information can be entered in two ways:
