Almighty Lord and everlasting God, we beseech You to
direct, sanctify and govern both our hearts and bodies in the
ways of your laws and the works of your protection, both
here and ever, through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ,
who is alive and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy
Spirit, one God, now and forever.

Now the Epistle, Gradual, and the Tract, or Alleluia we don’t observe acclamation
and Sequence.
These being ended, if it be a Solemn Mass, the Deacon places the book of the
Gospels on the middle of the Altar, and the Celebrant blesses incense as above.
Then the Deacon, kneeling before the Altar, says with joined hands:
CLEANSE my heart and my lips, Almighty God, who did
cleanse the lips of Isaiah the prophet with a live coal, so of
thy gracious mercy vouchsafe to cleanse me that I may

worthily proclaim thy Holy Gospel. Through Christ our Lord. Amen
Afterwards he takes the book from the Altar, and kneeling again, asks a blessing
from the Priest, saying: Bid,Fr, a blessing.
Having received the blessing, the Deacon bow before the Celebrant. And going
with the other ministers, with the incense and the lights, to the place of the
Gospel, he stands with joined hands, saying:
Priest: The Lord be with you.
People: And with thy spirit.
He announces:
The holy Gospel according to N.
He signs the book with the thumb of his right hand at the beginning of the Gospel
which he is to read, then himself on the forehead, the mouth, and the breast. And
while the ministers respond, Glory be to you, O Lord, he censes the book
thrice, then reads the Gospel with joined hands.
The Gospel ended, the Deacon carries the book to the Priest, who kisses the
Gospel text, saying: Through the words of the Gospel may our sins be
blotted out.
If, however, the priest celebrates without deacon, when the book has been carried
to the other corner of the altar, he bows in the midst, and with joined hands says,
Cleanse my heart, as above. Then Bid, Lord, a blessing. The Lord be in
my heart and on my lips, that I may worthily and fitly proclaim his
Gospel. Amen.
Then, turning to the book, with hands joined he says: The Lord be with you,
and then announces: The continuation (or The be-ginning)of the holy
Gospel ac-cording to N. He signs the book with the thumb of his right hand at
the beginning of the Gospel text which he is to read, then himself on the
forehead, the mouth, and the breast. [Then he reads the Gospel as above.] When
the Gospel is ended, the Minister responds: Praise be to thee, O Christ, and
the Priest kisses the Gospel, saying: Through the words of the Gospel as above.

In Masses of the Dead, Cleanse my heart is said, but a blessing is not asked,
lights are not carried, and the Celebrant does not kiss the book.

THE APOSTLE CREED
We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and
earth, and of all things visible and invisible; And in one Lord Jesus
Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all
worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten,
not made, being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things
were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from
heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary,
and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate;

he suffered and was buried; and the third day he rose again in
accordance with the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and is
seated at the right hand of the Father; and he shall come again, with
glory, to judge the living and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no
end. And we believe in the Holy Spirit the Lord, and Giver of Life,
who proceeds from the Father (and the Son); who with the Father
and the Son together is worshiped and glorified; who has spoken
through the Prophets. And we believe in one holy Catholic and
Apostolic Church; we acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of

OFFERTORY
Facing the congregation, the celebrant says one of the following or some other
appropriate sentence of Scripture:
Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving, and make good Your vows to
the Most High. Psalm 50:14
Ascribe to the Lord the honor due his Name; bring offerings and come
into his courts. Psalm 96:8
Walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself for us, an offering
and sacrifice to God. Ephesians 5:2

I appeal to you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present yourselves as a
living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
Romans 12:1
The celebrant open the ciborium, standing at the alter, takes the paren with the
bread and, holding it slightly raise above the alter says:
Blessed are You, Lord God of all creation. For through Your goodness
we have received the bread we offer You: fruit of the earth and work
of human hands, it will become the Body of Christ.
Response: Blessed be God forever.
Then, he places the Host upon the Corporal and closes the ciborium and
genuflects.
The Deacon ministers the wine, and the water in the Chalice (or if it be a Low
Mass, the Priest pours in both). The Priest blesses the sign of the Cross over the
water to be mixed in the Chalice, saying:
By the mystery of this water and wine may we come to share in the
divinity of Christ, who humbled himself to share in our humanity.
Then the celebrant takes the chalice and, holding it slightly raised above the altar,
says:
Blessed are You, Lord of all creation. For through Your goodness we
received the wine we offer You, fruit of the vine and work of human
hands; it will become the Blood of Christ.
Response: Blessed be God forever.
Then he places it upon the Corporal, and covers it with the Pall. Then, with hands
joined, he says, bowing slightly:
In a humble spirit and with a contrite heart, let us be accepted of thee,
O Lord; and grant that the sacrifice we offer this day in thy sight may
be pleasing unto thee, O Lord God.

If it is a mass with incense, the priest bless the incense saying:
May this incense be +bless O Lord, and may Thy mercy descend upon
us.
Afterwards, the priest is censed by the deacon. Then the priest washes his hands
saying:
PSALM 25:6-12
I will wash my hands in innocence, O LORD, and so will I go to your
altar. That I may show the voice of thanksgiving, and tell of all your
wondrous works. LORD, I have loved the habitation of your house,
and the place where your honor dwell. O shut not up my soul with

Then bowing slightly, in the middle of the altar with hands joined together and he

Receive, O Holy Trinity, this oblation which we offer thee in memory
of the Passion, Resurrection, and Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ in
your honor and our salvation, which in your memory we keep on
earth. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.

Turning to the people he extends and joins his hands, and says raising his voice a
little:
Pray, brethren: that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to God
the Father almighty.
The minister, or those near the altar, respond (otherwise the priest himself):
The Lord receive the sacrifice at your (or my) hands, to the praise and
glory of his name, to our benefit also, and that of all his holy Church.
Amen.
Then with hands extended, immediately (without Let us pray) he adds the Secret
Prayers.
CHRISTMAS
Lord, accept our gifts on this feast of our salvation. By our
communion with God made man, may we become more like him
who joins our lives to Yours, for he is lord forever.
LENT
Accept in your goodness these prayers, O Lord, and set free from
worldly attractions those You allow to serve the heavenly mysteries.
Through Christ our Lord.
PALM SUNDAY
Through the passion of your Only Begotten Son, O Lord, may our
reconciliation with You be near at hand, so that, though we do not
merit it by our own deeds, yet by this sacrifice made once for all, we
may feel already the effects of your mercy. Through Christ our Lord.

ORDINARY TIME

Regard with favor, O Lord, we pray, the offerings we set upon this
sacred altar, that, bestowing on us your pardon, our oblations may
give honor to your name. Give us the right dispositions, O Lord, we
pray, to make these offerings, for with them we celebrate the
beginning of this venerable and sacred time. Through Christ our Lord.
Or
May your people’s oblation, O Lord, find favor with you, we pray,
that it may restore them to holiness and obtain what they devoutly
entreat. We bring to your altar these offerings of our service: be
pleased to receive them, we pray, and transform them into the
Sacrament of our redemption. Grant, we pray, that they may become

Facing the altar he begins the Preface with both hands extende and raises them a

GENERAL PREFACE
Priest: You are worthy of our thanks and praise, Lord God of truth,
for by the breath of your mouth you have spoken your word, and all
things have come into being.
Again and again you drew us into your covenant of grace. You gave
your people the law and taught us by your prophets to look for your
reign of justice, mercy and peace.

GENERAL EUCHARIST PRAYER
The Priest open ciborium and chalice, with hands extended, says:
Lord God, You are the most Holy one, enthroned in splendor and
light, yet in the coming of your Son Jesus Christ, You reveal the power
of your love made perfect in our weakness.
He joins his hands and, holding them extended over the offerings, says:
As we recall the one, perfect sacrifice of our redemption, Father, send
your Holy Spirit on this gift,
He joins his hands and put the left hand on his chest, makes the Sign of the Cross
once over the bread and the chalice together, saying:
let these gifts of your creation become to us +body +and blood of our

THE FRACTION
The Celebrant breaks a small piece and places it in the chalice saying quietly.
May this mingling of the Body and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ
bring eternal life to us who receive it.

Your body and drink Your blood. Let it not bring me
condemnation but health in mind and body.
The Celebrant elevates the host and the chalice together, saying:
Priest: Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away
the sins of the world. Blessed are those called to the
supper of the Lamb.
People: Lord, I am not worthy that You should enter under my roof,
but only say the word and my soul shall be healed.

desire to be dissolved and to be with You. Grant that our souls may

Turning and making the sign of the cross over the congregation, the celebrant
says:

BAPTISM
CONDITIONAL BAPTISM
If there be any doubt as to whether the person has been baptized before, then
the following form should be used after the normal formula.
IF You are not baptized, I baptize you in the Name of the Father, and
of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
PRIVATE BAPTISM
This form of baptism may be used when there is great need and the solemn form
cannot be used. All that is required is for the priest to pour clean water over the
head of the person while saying:
I BAPTIZE you in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Ghost.
The water must touch and flow over the skin of the head.
SOLEMN BAPTISM
THE QUESTIONING
Sponsor/Catechumen: Faith.
Priest: If then you desire to enter into life, keep the commandments.
'You shall love the Lord You God with your whole heart and with
your whole soul and with your whole mind; and your neighbour as
yourself.'

THE EXSUFFLATION
The priest then breathes on the candidate in the form of a cross, saying:
Priest: Go forth from him (her), unclean spirit, and give place to the
Holy Spirit.
The priest then makes the sign of the cross with his thumb on the forehead and
breast of the candidate:
Priest: Receive the Sign of the Cross both upon your forehead and also
upon your heart; take to you the faith of the heavenly precepts; and
so order your life as to be, from henceforth, the temple of God.

THE EXORCISM
The priest makes the Sign of the Cross over the candidate three
times, saying:
Priest: I exorcise you, unclean spirit, in the name of the Father and of
the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, that you go out and depart from this
servant of God, N. For He command you, accursed one, Who did
walk upon the sea, and stretch out His right hand to Peter about to
sink. Therefore, accursed devil, acknowledge You sentence, and give
honor to the living and true God: give honor to Jesus Christ His Son,
and to the Holy Spirit; and depart from this servant of God, N.
because God and our Lord Jesus Christ has vouchsafed to call him
(her) to His holy grace and benediction and to the font of Baptism.
The priest again makes the sign of the cross on the candidate's
forehead. And also parent/godparent.
Priest: And this sign of the holy Cross, which we make upon his (her)
forehead, accursed devil, never dare to violate.
Sponsor/Catechumen: Amen.
O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, Eternal God, Author of light and truth,
I implore you everlasting and most just goodness upon this your
servant N., that You would vouchsafe to
enlighten him (her) with the light of You wisdom: cleanse him (her)
and sanctify him (her), give unto him (her) true knowledge; that,
being made worthy of the grace of Your Baptism, he (she) may hold
firm hope, right counsel and holy doctrine.

Priest: Through Christ our Lord.
Sponsor/Catechumen: Amen.
The priest lays the end of his stole on the candidate as a symbol of his
priestly authority, and admits him into the church building, which is
the symbol of the Church of Christ. If the ritual did not begin outside,
then the candidate moves from their location to the Nave of the
Church or into the Baptistery or area with the font.
Priest: N., enter into the temple of God, that you may have part with
Christ unto life everlasting.
Sponsor/Catechumen: Amen.
Priest: I exorcise you, every unclean spirit, in the name of God the
Father Almighty, in the name of Jesus Christ, His Son, our Lord and
Judge, and in the power of the Holy Spirit, that you be depart from
this creature of God N, which our Lord has deigned to call unto His
holy temple, that it may be made the temple of the living God, and
that the Holy Spirit may dwelll therein. Through the same Christ our
Lord, who shall come to judge the living and the dead, and the world
by fire.

THE ANOINTING
The priest anoints the candidate with the oil of catechumens on the
heart and between the shoulders in the form of a Cross, saying:
Priest: I anoint you with the oil of salvation in Christ Jesus our Lord,

AT THE FONT
The priest removes his violet stole and puts on a white one.
Sponsor/Catechumen: I do believe.
Priest: Do you believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son our Lord, Who was
born and Who suffered?

Priest: Do you believe in the Holy Ghost, the Holy Catholic Church,
the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of
the body and life everlasting?

The priest may optionally take a white linen cloth -- symbolizing the
purity of a soul cleansed from all sin and places it on the head of the
candidate.
Priest: Receive this white garment, which you may carry without stain
before the judgment seat of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you may have
life everlasting.

PRIVATE CONFESSION
Private Confession and Absolution has been used by the Church from
ancient times, and persons who are burdened in conscience on
account of sin may always seek the personal ministration of the Priest
before the Holy Communion, or at any other time. In such case the
Penitent may use his own words or the following Confession:
Bless me father for I have sinned (state your sins) for this and others that I
can’t remember , I am sincerely sorry.
Or
O God, our Heavenly Father, I confess unto you that I have grievously
sinned against You in many ways; not only by outward transgression, but
also by secret thoughts and desires, which I cannot fully understand, but
which are all known unto You my God. I do earnestly repent, and am
heartily sorry for these my offences, and I beseech you of your
great goodness to have mercy upon me and may you listen to your
priest as he pray for me, and for the sake of your dear Son, Jesus
Christ, our Lord, to forgive my sins, and graciously to help my
infirmities. Amen.
Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, have mercy upon you, and for
the sake of the sufferings, death, and resurrection of His dear Son Jesus
Christ our Lord, forgive you all your sins. Upon the confession which you
have made, and in obedience to our Lord’s command, I declare unto the
entire forgiveness of all You sins: In the Name of the Father, and of the Son,

The Blessing of Almighty God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy

CONFIRMATION
Upon the day appointed, all that are to be confirmed shall stand in
order before the Bishop, who is sitting at the faldstool before the altar.
Then the Bishop, still sitting at the faldstool with mitre and crosier, or
some Minister appointed by him, may say,
HEAR the words of the Evangelist Saint Luke, in the eighth Chapter of
the Acts of the Apostles.
WHEN the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had
received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: who,
when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might
receive the Holy Ghost: for as yet he was fallen upon none of them:
only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then laid they
their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
Then the Bishop stands with mitre, holding his hands outstretched
over the candidates, and shall say:
MAY the Holy Spirit come upon you, and may the power of the Most
High keep you from sin.

ALMIGHTY everlasting God, who once did give new life to these
servants of ours by water and the Holy Spirit, forgiving them all their
sins; send forth upon them from heaven Your Holy Spirit, the

Then all of them in order kneeling before the Bishop, he shall sit at

Defend, O Lord, this Your Child with Your heavenly grace; that he
may continue forever; and daily increase in Your Holy Spirit more and
more, until he come unto Your everlasting kingdom. Amen.

ANOINTING
Then shall the Bishop say, as he anoints the forehead of the candidate
in the sign of the cross:
Then he strikes the confirmed lightly on the cheek with the first and
second fingers of the right hand, saying:
After all have been confirmed, the Bishop cleans his hands. An
appropriate hymn may be sung during this time.
Then shall the Bishop rise, giving up the mitre, and say:
Let us pray.
O GOD, who did give to Your apostles the Holy Spirit, ordaining that
they and their successors should hand down that Gift to the rest of the
faithful; look with favor on our lowly service, and grant that the same
Holy Spirit may come upon these persons whose brow we have
anointed with holy chrism and sealed with the sign of the holy cross.

May their hearts be consecrated as a worthy dwelling for Your glory.
We ask this in Your name, who live and reign with the Father and the

Almighty and ever living God, who make us both to will and to do
those things which are good, and acceptable unto your Divine

and gracious goodness towards them. Let Your Fatherly hand, we

And also speaking unto the Persons who are to be married, he shall

I require and charge you both, as you will answer at the dreadful day
of judgment when the secrets of all hearts shall be disclosed, that if
either of you know any impediment, why you may not be lawfully

assured, that if any persons are joined together otherwise than as
God's Word doth allow, their marriage is not lawful.

goes to the Epistle Corner, facing the bride and bridegroom, and says

O GOD, who by your own mighty power, didst make all things out of
nothing: who, having set in order the beginnings of the world, didst
appoint Woman to be an inseparable helpmeet to Man, made like
unto God, so that you did give to woman's body its beginnings in
man's flesh, thereby teaching that what it pleased You to form from
one substance, might never be lawfully separated: O God, who, by so
excellent a mystery have consecrated the union of man and wife, as to
fore-shadow in this nuptial bond the union of Christ with his Church:
O God, by whom Woman is joined to Man, and the partner-ship,
ordained from the beginning, is endowed with such blessing that it
alone was not withdrawn either by the punishment of original sin, nor
by the sentence of the flood: graciously look upon this your

and chaste, may she be wedded in Christ, and let her ever be the
imitator of holy women: let her be dear to her husband, like Rachel:
wise, like Rebecca: long-lived and faithful like Sara. Let not the author
of deceit work any of his evil deeds in her. May she continue, clinging
to the faith and to the commandments. Bound in one union, let her
shun all unlawful contact. Let her protect her weakness by the strength
of discipline; let her be grave in behavior, respected for modesty, well-
instructed in heavenly doc-trine. Let her be fruitful in offspring; be
approved and innocent; and come to the repose of the blessed and
the kingdom of heaven. May they both see their children's children to
the third and fourth generation, and may they reach the old age
which they desire. Through the same.
Then the priest returns to the center of the altar and continues with
the Libera nos as usual. The Bride and Bridegroom are communicated
first after the priest's communion and the Ecce Agnus Dei.
The priest then gives the dismissal as usual according to the season.
The Celebrant then says, before blessing the people, the following to
the Bride and Bridegroom.
MAY the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob be
with you: and himself fulfill his blessing on you: that you may see your
children's children even to the third and fourth generation: and

Then may the Minister lay his hand on the head of the dying believer,
and say:
Depart in peace, Your ransomed soul. May God the Father Almighty,

Who redeemed you; and the Holy Ghost, Who sanctified you,
preserve your going out and your coming in, from this time
forth, even for evermore. Amen.
When the soul has departed, the following Prayer may be said:
Lord Jesus, Prince of Life, we thank You that You did keep this our
brother/sister steadfast in repentance and faith, and that You have
now taken him/her to Yourself. Comfort us who remain; help us to
the end of life patiently to bear its burdens and trials; and when our
last hour shall come, be the strength of our heart and our portion
forever; Who lives and reign with the Father and the Holy Ghost, One
God, world without end. Amen.
The Blessing of Almighty God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy
Ghost, be with us all, evermore. Amen.

ORDER FOR THE BURIAL OF THE DEAD
The Order for the Burial of the Dead is provided only for the burial of
those who depart this life in the Christian Faith.
The death of a member of the Church should be reported
immediately to the Priest, and no arrangements for the burial shall
be made without consultation with him.
This Order may be used in the Church, or at the house, before the
burial.
When the mass is held in the Church after the burial, only the Order
provided for use at the grave shall be used at the Committal, and the
Order here following shall be used in the Church.
When a brief Service is held at (he house before going to the Church,
or to the grave, it may include a Hymn, a Lesson, a Collect or Prayer
and a Benediction.
The Order of the Church herein provided shall in no case be
interrupted by the exercises of secular organizations, and shall
close with the Benediction immediately following the final
Collect.
The Service/mass may begin with a Hymn, after which the Minister
shall say:
In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
Amen.

Almighty God, Who by the death of Your Son have destroyed
sin and death, and by His resurrection hast restored innocence
and everlasting life, in order that we might be delivered from

Almighty God, with Whom do live the spirits of those who depart
hence in the Lord, and with Whom the souls of the faithful, after they
are delivered from the burden of the flesh, are in joy and felicity: We
give You hearty thanks for Your grace bestowed upon Your
servants, who, having finished their course in faith, do now rest
from their labors; and we beseech You, that we, with all who
have departed in the true faith of Your holy Name, may have
our perfect consummation and bliss, both in body and soul, in Your
eternal glory; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord. Amen.

When the body is at the grave, the coffin is opened and the Minister
may bless it if not done at mass and says:
I heard a voice from heaven, saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the
dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: You, says the Spirit, that
they may rest from their labours. I am the resurrection and the life,
says the Lord; he that believe in Me, though he were dead, yet shall
he live; and whosoever live and believe in Me, shall never die. If the
Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, He that

raised up Christ from the dead, shall also quicken your mortal bodies
by His Spirit that dwell in you.
If the foregoing has not been, used, the Minister may say the
following:
In the midst of life we are in death. Of whom may we seek for succor,
but of You, Lord, Who for our sins art justly displeased?
Yet, Lord God most holy, Lord most Mighty, Holy and most merciful
Saviour: Suffer us not, at our last hour, for any pains of death, to fall
from You.
Then may a Hymn be sung while the minister sprinkle holy water.
The Minister may say one or both of the following Collects:
Almighty God, Who by the death of Your Son, Jesus Christ, have
destroyed death, and, by His rest in the tomb, have sanctified the
graves of You saints, and by His glorious resurrection, has
brought life and immortality to light, so that all who die in
Him abide in peace and hope: Receive, we beseech You, our
unfeigned thanks for the victory over death and the grave which He
has obtained for us and for all who sleep in Him; and keep us, who
are still in the body, in everlasting fellowship with all that wait for You
on earth, and with all around You in heaven, in union with Him,
Who is the Resurrection and the Life, even Jesus Christ, Your
Son, our Lord. Amen.
O Lord Jesus Christ, Who by Your death did take away the
sting of death: Grant unto us Your servants so to follow in faith
where You have led the way, that we may at length fall peacefully
asleep in You, and awake after Your likeness; through You
mercy, our Lord, Who live and reign with the Father and the Holy
Ghost, ever One God, world without end. Amen.

When the body has been committed to the grave, the Minister may
say:
Forasmuch as it hath pleased Almighty God of His great mercy, to take
unto Himself the soul of our brother; we therefore commit his body
to the ground; earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust; insure and
certain hope of the resurrection to eternal life through our Lord
Jesus Christ; Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned
like unto His glorious body, according to the working, whereby He is
able even to subdue all things unto Himself.
Or:
Now the God of Peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord
Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the
everlasting covenant, make you perfect in every good work to do His
will; working in you that which is well pleasing in His sight,
through Jesus Christ, to Whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
