tool in many woodworking and metalworking applications. Bench vises, in particular, attach
directly to a workbench to hold the workpiece during operations such as sawing, planing, and
drilling.
Grease gun
A grease gun is a common workshop and garage tool used for lubrication. The purpose of the
grease gun is to apply lubricant through an aperture to a specific point, usually on a grease
fitting or 'nipple'. The channels behind the grease nipple lead to where the lubrication is needed
An adjustable spanner (UK, and most other English-speaking countries), adjustable wrench (US
and Canada) or a shifter (Australia) is an open-end
wrench with a movable jaw, allowing it to be used with different sizes of fastener head (nut ,
bolt, etc.) rather than just one fastener size, as with a conventional fixed spanner. [1] Several
other names are in use, including the US
trademark crescent
The pipe wrench (US), Stillson wrench or Stillsons (UK) is an adjustable wrench/spanner used for
turning soft iron pipes and fittings with a rounded surface. The design of the adjustable jaw
allows it to lock in the frame, such that any forward pressure on the handle tends to pull the
jaws tighter together. Teeth angled in the direction of turn dig into the soft pipe. They are not
intended for use on hardened steel hex nuts or other fittings because they would ruin the head;
however, if a hex nut is soft enough that it becomes rounded beyond use with standard
wrenches, a pipe wrench is sometimes used to break the bolt or nut free. Pipe wrenches are
classified by the length of the handle; they can be available in any size from as small as 3 inches
up to 48 inches or larger. They are usually made of cast steel . Today, aluminium is also used to
construct the body of the wrench, while the teeth and jaw remain steel. Teeth, and jaw kits
(which also contain adjustment rings and springs) can be bought to repair broken wrenches, as
this is cheaper than buying a new
Used in plumbing, mining and industrial applications, these tools enable precise cutting and the
attachment of male and female pipe fittings. A pipe cutter is designed to cleanly slice steel
pipes, while roll grooving machines use pressure to create grooves for connecting
A differential pulley, also called "Weston differential pulley", sometimes "chain hoist" or
colloquially "chain fall", is used to manually lift very heavy objects like car engines. It is operated
by pulling upon the slack section of a continuous chain that wraps around pulleys
