and Thakral Corporation Ltd as a joint venture company to conduct the business
of Warehousing, Container Freight Stations, providing handling and clearance of
sea borne Exim Trade in containerized form.

Vishakapatnam and Inland Container Depot at Garhi Harsaru.

The CFS at Navi Mumbai, spread over 14 hectares, has a capacity to handle
216,000 TEU’s per annum.

The CFS at Chennai spread over 7.5 hectares, having a capacity to handle 40000

terminal at Vishakapatnam.

GDL’s ICD at Garhi Harsaru, is spread over 31 hectares. The ICD is road-linked

Punjab and Rajasthan. The facility has attained a milestone in terms of rail
connectivity with its own rail siding connecting the ICD to the main Delhi-Jaipur
Broad Guage lines. In February 2006, GDL received an in-principle approval from
the Indian Railways, to move container trains in category. The first full rake train
carrying export containers railed out of ICD Garhi, followed by Import movement
into Garhi in May-2006.

The CFS at Mumbai, the ICD at Garhi, CFS at Vizag and the CFS at Chennai acts
as the four hubs of GDL to cater to the demand of traffic in western, northern,
eastern and southern regions of India respectively. These four facilities make
GDL the only private sector CFS operator with a Pan-India presence.

Future Plans

GDL is looking at areas of expansion that will not only complement its existing
business but make it a pan-India player in the shipping logistics industry.

10 Aegis Logistic Ltd

AEGIS LOGISTICS has five businesses:

ƒ Tank storage and terminalling - port handling and storage of oil, chemicals
and petroleum products.

ƒ Chemical distribution - sourcing, marketing and distribution of liquid and

solid chemicals.

ƒ Gas storage and distribution - LPG import, storage and bulk distribution.

ƒ Petroleum distribution - sourcing, marketing and distribution of oil and

petroleum products.

ƒ Logistics management services - supply chain management for customers

using oil, gas and chemicals.

From its headquarters in Mumbai, AEGIS serves clients all over India in the
automobile, steel, glass, ceramic, petroleum, chemical, vegetable oil and
petrochemical sectors

Company History

AEGIS was founded in 1956, and started operations as a speciality chemicals

manufacturer in 1967 with a formaldehyde plant in Vapi, Gujarat. In 1970 the
company (then known as Atul Drug House) started India's first pentaerythritol
plant, and became an important supplier to the paints industry. In 1977 the
company set up a port terminal in Mumbai able to handle ships carrying cargoes
of chemicals.

In 1981, AEGIS diversified further into manufacturing another speciality

chemical: natural fatty alcohols based on vegetable oils. Again, AEGIS was a

pioneer in manufacturing such chemicals in India and began to export to world

markets in the US, Japan and Europe.

Following liberalisation of the Indian economy in 1991, the logistics business saw
major growth and it was decided to focus on this business and divest the bulk of
the chemical manufacturing assets.

The next phase of expansion came in 1994 when the Government of India began
to liberalise the petroleum sector. Private companies became free to set up their
own marketing operations in petroleum products. AEGIS set up, in association
with Hindustan Aegis LPG Bottling Company Ltd (HALPG), India’s first private
refrigerated liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) terminal with know-how from
Tractebel Gas Engineering of Germany. AEGIS became one of the largest private
suppliers of LPG in India.
