PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION 2

Educational Philosophy

“Teachers who love teaching teach children to love learning” –Anonymous.

The greatest teachers are those that know the value of education and love teaching

it. There are many things that contribute to the value of education. The teacher’s

communication, the environment of the classroom, and curriculum and assessment

are three important values.

Communication is key in teaching. Teachers have to communicate with

students, parents and colleagues. Students need to know what is expected of them

and feel free to ask questions whenever they don’t. Parents need to know how their

child is doing in class and what they can do to help. Colleagues need to know if a

fellow teacher is struggling in order to help them to become a successful teacher.

The environment of the classroom is the third teacher. Having the classroom

desks or tables set up in groups allows the students to collaborate and learn more.

They can discuss what is being asked by the teacher and get their fellow students

perspective on the subject. The students can learn from each other and not just from

the teacher.

Curriculums and assessments give structure to a classroom. Having a

curriculum allows each teacher in each grade to teach the same thing. They may

teach in different ways but in the end each student is learning the same thing. This is

important because then when they move to the next grade level they are all at the

same level. Assessments show the teachers at what point each student is doing well

or struggling. This is important because then they can teach accordingly.

PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION 3

All in all, each teacher has a choice in how much they value teaching each and

every one of their students to the best of their ability. Three of the important things

that contribute to the value of education are communication, environment, and

curriculum and assessment. Communication between teachers and students,

parents, and colleagues; setting up the environment of the classroom so the

students can learn from each other as well as the teacher; and teaching to the

curriculum so students are learning the same things and assessing according to

what the students know. And, in order to do all of this and be successful, the teacher

must love teaching.
