Rating Article/Research Quality

Number of citations

“The reality of the 21st century in the academic world 

Universities and Researchers are going to be evaluated through
measures of how often their work is cited” (LiU E-Press)
"A paper can become highly cited because it is
good science - or because it is eye-catching,
provocative, or wrong.“
The main strategy to get high citation !!
- Randy Schekman, the Nobel prize winner in physiology or medicine
(2013) -

“The statistic that 27% of our papers were not cited in

5 years was disconcerting. It certainly indicates that it is
important to maintain HIGH STANDARDS when
accepting papers...…”
– Marv Bauer, Editor, Remote Sensing of Environment-

‘‘Scientists should not publish their works just for

pleasure, but to share knowledge by providing Quality
Data and Well Tested Results to satisfy others.’’
(Sabarudin)
Publishing a high quality
paper in scientific journals
will be a halfway of receiving
citation in the future

The rest of the way is

advertising and disseminating
the publications by using the
proper “Research Tools”.

(Ale et al, Research Tools in Education Series,

1 (2012) 1-86.)
Other strategies for
Increasing Citations
1. Gunakan nama PENULIS and AFILIASI-nya secara
konsisten
Consistency facilitates easiness for tracing/searching !!

Authors and affiliations

Be consistent with spelling;
Full VS short names, Full VS short addresses

Surnames: Sabarudin
Middle Initial: Use consistently or not at all
First Names: Akhmad
Affiliation: Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science
(Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences ?),…….
2. Tulis kembali di abstract “FRASE KUNCI (Key
phrases) ” yang ada di “body of article”

Why ???

“Search engines and citation

trackers” umumnya melakukan
pencarian atau identifikasi pada
abstract dari artikel kita
3. Gunakan keywords yang baik pada abstract !!

Keywords are important for indexing:

indexing: they
enable your article to be more easily identified
and cited
Keywords

Keywords: Schizophrenia; Neuregulin 1; Linkage disequilibrium; ……

Bad keywords: NRG1, LD, SNPs, Japanese large sample, association; ………….
4. Gunakan kata atau phrase pada JUDUL yang
mencerminkan “trademark” (research interest) dari
penulis secara konsisten
5. Publikasikan artikel kita pada journal yang
berkualitas (i.e impact faktor tinggi)
6. Publikasikan diri kita: (a) Self-archive articles on the web
(personal web/blog) and up date the list continuously, (b)
deposit our articles in open access repository, (c) join
academic social networking sites, (d) buat CV online
Contoh peningkatan sitasi menggunakan “open access repository”
7. Publikasi di Open Access Journal (mungkin) dapat
meningkatkan sitasi

Open Access Journal increases visibility

Impact Factor (2012): 3.730

Impact Factor (2012): 1.730
8. Publikasikan artikel secara team (team-authored
articles), publikasi bersama dengan international
authors, publikasi bersama dengan Nobel laureates

Research
International Research
Group Collaboration

Papers with international co-authors are cited up to four times more often than those
without international co-authors (Good Practices for Improving Citations to your
Published Work, University of BATH, UK, 2013)
9. Gunakan references yang berkualitas

Article/ reference
yang kita BACA
mencerminkan
KUALITAS riset kita
10. Publish across disciplines

Publikasi yang dihasilkan

mempunyai reader atau
audience yang lebih luas
CONTOH
11. Attending conference/ seminar
