Guidelines1 for “Project Work on Field”

(Part of 2 Year Regular MBA Program of Vidyasagar University)

Project Report: 150 marks Viva (Presentation): 50 marks

 Purpose:
1. Opportunity to understand the Market Reality.
2. Opportunity to apply classroom learning in the field to enhance productivity.
3. Understanding the relationship with customers at 360 in-corporate and out-corporate.
4. Opportunity to experience a feel of corporate culture and to imbibe it.
5. Opportunity to create employment potentiality.
6. Ability to answer project related questions during Final Placement Interview on the following–
a. Objective of the study
b. Methodology adopted
c. Learning from the project --- findings of the project study

Individual Project: To be presented & submitted individually, with exclusive project title. Replication
of studies undertaken by the other individual will under no circumstances be accepted. Project
prepared in a group will not be accepted.

 Time Stipulation:
Duration : 2 months
Presentation : After the completion of Project Work on Field
Report Submission : At the time of Viva (Project Presentation)

 Expectation of The Company From an Intern (Student)


1. Regular, punctual attendance at the place of work.
2. Carrying out the delegated jobs with fullest sincerity and responsibility. This may create
placement potentiality.
3. Regular interaction with the external guide as per his/her advice. Appraise/ consult him/her on the
market/ work related issues.
4. Build relationship with people at the place of work.

 Expectation of The Institute From an Intern (Student)


1. Sincere participation in the Project Work on Field
2. Regular interaction with the Internal & External Guide.

3. Work out the project activities as per the stipulated time lines.
4. Sincere participation in preparation and presentation of project report.
5. Submission of the Final Project Report as per the prescribed Format (attached with) on scheduled
timelines.
NOTE: KEEP RECORDS OF ALL INTERACTIONS WITH EXTERNAL AS WELL AS
INTERNAL GUIDE ALONG WITH THE DATE OF INTERACTION.

 The Process ---


INTERACTIONS WITH YOUR ASSIGNED INTERNAL AS WELL AS EXTERNAL GUIDE
DURING THE PROJECT WORK ON FIELD IS MANDATORY AND THE PROJECT
WORK SHOULD BE CARRIED OUT IN CONSULTATION WITH BOTH OF THEM.

1. Understand in brief at the beginning---


a. The Organization.
b. Its Business and Product Lines.
c. Its Corporate Structure & Hierarchy.
2. At the early beginning of the Field Work –
a. Finalize the Topic of the Project in consultation with your project guide.
b. Set up the Objectives of the Study with the concurrence of both Guides.
i. The company generally provides with the Topic & Objectives of the
Project. If not, the student has to interact with the Internal Guide for
developing the objective of the study. Discuss with your External Guide
and finalize both topic and objective of the study.
ii. In most cases the external guide can ask to achieve targets (e.g. sales/
customer acquisition, opening accounts, etc), hence other project objectives
should be developed additionally in consultation with the internal guide for
effective learning from the Project Work on Filed and also satisfy the
external guide.
3. Decide on the Detailed Methodology of the Project in consultation with both guides.
a. The process of Field Work needs to be described in alignment with the Objectives
of the study.
b. Regarding data collection discussion with the respective project guide is essential to
finalize data type, data collection instrument (especially questionnaire) and data
collection procedure.
4. Field Work can be of Out of Office and /or In-office.
a. In both cases guidance should be taken from the External Guide on the Process to
work in the Field. Discuss it with the Internal Guide to drive all the Objectives.
5. During the field work, regular contact with your External & Internal Guide according to
their suggestion is essential to continue the process effectively and objectively.

6. Data Collection:

a. Data must be aligned to the Objective of the study.


b. Primary Data collection
i. Data collection instrument and procedure must be compatible with the
objective of the study.
ii. If any questionnaire is given by the company, discuss with internal guide
about it before commencement of data collection to align data with the
objective of the study.
iii. Proper documentation of data is essential as per the direction of the project
guide.
c. Secondary Data Collection:
i. Choice of the source of the data should be finalized in consultation with the
project guide
ii. All sources of data need to be recorded and quoted.
7. Data Analysis and Presentation:
a. Planning for Data Refining and Preparation (Tabulation) need to start along with
data collection in consultation with the project guide.
b. Analysis of Data – use of quantitative (statistical analysis, hypotheses testing etc.)
as well as qualitative tools is as per the suggestion of the project guide.
8. Findings and Conclusion
a. Findings---- must be derived from the Data Analysis and Interpretation.
b. Recommendations--- must be based on Findings in relation to the Objective of the
study.
c. Conclusion
9. Project Report Preparation & Submission:
a. The Final Project Report and the Presentation (in ppt. format) must be verified and
finalized by the internal guide before the Viva (Presentation).
b. Final Report should be submitted at the time of Viva (Project Presentation) along
with the certificate of the external guide.
Note: Throughout the Project period it is necessary to understand
a. The Systems and Procedures of the organization
b. Its Working Style & Culture
c. Its Performance & Competitive Standing

 Guidelines for Project Report


o An ideal report should contain at least 30-40 pages.
o The project report should be developed in consultation of the project guides. In this respect
incorporation of necessary suggestions and corrections are required.
o Repetition of any part of the project should be avoided as far as possible
o The report should be verified by the INTERNAL GUIDE before final submission to the
institute & also the company.
o No of Copies of Project Report to be submitted -
1. To Company – 01 (one) (binding as per the company’s requirement)
2. To Institute -- 02 (two) (spiral binding)
3. For Self – 01 (one)

 Format of the Report


o A Project Work On Field Report should contain the following -------

1. Prefatory Information
 Cover Page --- 1st page ----format attached
 A Letter / Certificate from The Organization / Company – 2nd Page

o The Original Certificate to be attached to the Student’s copy.


o All other copies of the Project Report shall contain the colored
photocopy of the Original Certificate.
 Declaration ---- 3rd Page – Format Attached

 Acknowledgements – 4th Page --- Format Attached

o There are many persons who may have helped you during the course
of your project, acknowledge them and thank them for their help.
 Executive Summary – 5 th Page
o It is the summary of the project consists of 15-20 lines in one or two
paragraphs.
 Table of Contents – 6 th Page

 List of Tables – 7th Page

 List of Figures – 8th Page
