Assessment Profile- Keagan

• Background
o Keagan Miller is 21 years old male. He has his associates degree in
Business administration and is seeking his bachelors degree from
Davenport University for Marketing.
o He began speech therapy in the second grade and he graduated in the
sixth grade. He was diagnosed with ADHD in fourth grade and took
a variety of medicines to help for his ADHD, but none seemed to
have any huge benefit for him. His mother said that the medicine that
he took for ADHD made him lose his personality, so he discontinued
taking the medication. He took medicine inconsistently from sixth
grade up until high school.
o In elementary school, he would see a special educator almost
everyday, but was still in the general education classroom for
majority of his day. He struggled with his academics in elementary
school, due to his lack of ability to stay on task. He would often get
in trouble in class due to his inability to sit down, comply to rules,
and stay on task. He got along well with his peers and had very good
social skills.
o In high school, he interacted well with others, but still struggled
academically. It took him long periods of time to finish any
assignment and test in class. His home life was normal without any
indication of poor home life.
o In college, he originally went into school wanting to be a firefighter,
he explained that he did not have any idea what he wanted to be
when he grew up and he did not have high expectations of himself.
However, sometime during college he turned very self motivated and
worked really hard on his academics. He says he often gets
distracted when doing his work and during class, but he puts in the
extra time to work on his homework or to see the professor in his or
her office hours. Keagan seems to be putting in more effort in
college than he did in his previous schooling.
• Plan for evaluation: What are you assessing, what are you using, and why?
o We are assessing Keagan’s IQ, his math, reading and writing skills,
and his visual motor integration skills. Therefore, the Wechsler
Individual Achievement Test, Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test, and
the Test of Visual-Motor Integration will be administered. These
tests will be useful in determining his cognitive needs, along with his
strengths and weaknesses academically. With having Keagan take
the Test of Visual-Motor Integration, it is our hope to find if there is
any indication of difficulties with his ability to visual see an object
and be able to copy that picture from the visual. We are checking to
see if he is able to transfer and process what he sees visually to his
brain to paper.
• Evaluation results
o Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test: In the vocabulary subtest, Keagan
scored a raw score of 61, that resulted in a standard score of 94. His
standard score of 94 is 34% nationally ranked, which is average for
his age. In the matrices subtest, Keagan scored a raw score of 61,
that resulted in a standard score of 99. The standard score of 99 is
47% nationally ranked, which is also average for his age. When
adding both the vocabulary and matrices standard scores, the result
of the IQ Composite standard score of 193, which resulted in a
national ranking of 39%, which is average for his age. The result of
the Kaufman Brief Intelligence Test is that his cognitive abilities is
normal for his age.
o In the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test, Keagan took reading,

strength for Keagan, he has a good concept of letter sounds and
sound codes. Although, his reading comprehension was in the low
average range. In the math subtest, his numerical operations standard
score was an 85 and math reasoning was an 84, which fell in the low
average range. In the written language subtest, Keagan scored a
standard score of 102 and a written expression standard score of 108,
which fell in the average range. Lastly, his oral language subtest, he
scored a standard score of 109 on his oral expression that fell into
the average range, while his listening comprehension standard score

• Observation analysis and results

o While taking the mathematics subtest in the Weschler Individual
Achievement Test, Keagan continually would ask for breaks and
would often ask if he was done yet. He seemed to be restless during
this part of the test more than the others. Keagan took very long on
every math problem and on some of the math problems, he would
just give up and not try on some problems because he said they
looked too hard. When taking the writing subtest, he did not finish
his written essay because he exceeded the time limit of 15 minutes.
He often watched outside the window while he was supposed to be
writing his essay, he needed constant reminders to stay on task.
Furthermore, while taking the comprehension pieces of reading and
listening, he barely listened to the questions being asked and just
guessed the answer. The comprehension pieces were the last of the
test to be taken, so it seemed like he was very fatigued by that point.
Keagan could barely keep his head up when taking the
comprehension pieces of reading and listening. His low average
score in both reading comprehension and listening comprehension
could be the result of his fatigue and lack of attention while taking
those subtests. While taking the assessments, he was in a classroom
with windows, he became frequently distracted while taking the
assessment, continually looking out the window.
o Keagan had a lot of energy and excitement while taking the Visual-
Motor Integration test, although it took him almost 30 minutes to
finish, it resulted in an above average score. It seems that Keagan
does better in tests when he has no time limit. He had the ability to
work on his own without a time limit, which resulted in an above
average rating in the Test of Visual-Motor Integration.
o In social settings, Keagan is very talkative and talks with confience.
He interacts well with other. Social abilities seem to be a strength for
Keagan.
o In academics settings, Keagan is able to ask questions in class
without holding back. He is capable and willing to ask questions to
the professor if he does not understanding something. He still takes
long periods of time to finish projects, assignments, and tests.
• Interview analysis and results
o Keagan is interested in sports. He played soccer in high school, but
enjoys to play hockey and golf now. He likes to watch all types of
sports on tv. He likes to do anything that gets him off his seat and
gets him moving. He likes to do outside activities like camping and
playing catch. Keagan is very social, and it seems to be a strength for
him. He has no problem having a conversation with anyone he
comes in contact to, this has been a benefit for Keagan working in
the sales business.
o His weaknesses include his inability to stay on task for long periods
of time and his lack of ability to sit for periods of time. This resulted
in him needing frequent breaks during the assessments, often giving
up on some questions due to fatigue. He was very fidgety during the
assessment and put his head down to take some of the assessments.
o When observing him while doing his school work, it was noticed
that he took frequent breaks on social media, while he was supposed
to be doing homework. He also checked sports on his phone every
five minutes while doing his homework. It seemed to have taken
longer on his homework due to the distractions.
• Evaluation summary and interpretation
o Due to Keagan’s low average scores on the WIATT in both listening
comprehension and reading comprehension, he needs to learn
strategies for understanding what he hears and reads. Listening
comprehension and reading comprehension were the last to be taken
during testing, therefore Keagan gave up on answering some parts of
the comprehension sections, he did not want to go on any further and
it seemed to reach his limit. I believe if he were to take those
sections first the next time, he would do better. He also scored a low
average on math reasoning and numerical operations. He would
decide to not do the math problem if it required more than one step.
So, if Keagan was able to take the math portions along with the
comprehension sections first with breaks in between, Keagan would
have been able to focus better and not be fatigued.
o In the IQ testing, his scores resulted in an average rating, so there is
no lack of cognitive ability.
o In the visual-motor integration test, he scored above average.
Although Keagan took almost 30 minutes to take the test, he seemed
to be more relaxed when there was no time limit. He took his time
on the test, while on the WIATT he was rushed and disregarded
some questions.
o Keagan has a very hard time doing school work for long periods of
time. He would benefit from breaks during long periods of school
work time.
• Recommendations
o When taking a test, doing an assignment, or working on any school
work, Keagan should find a room away from distractions.
Distractions seemed to be a deficit for Keagan due to his ADHD.
o When taking tests, Keagan should have no time limits. Due to his
lack of ability to pay attention for long periods of time, time
restrictions would not be a good indication of Keagan’s full ability.
o Extra comprehension strategies would be beneficial for Keagan,
since he scored low average on both on reading comprehension and
listening comprehension.
o When sitting in a classroom for more than 40 minutes, Keagan
should take a short break. This will allow for him to be less
distracted in the classroom.
