1. TWO testable questions, each with an associated hypothesis (2 points).

i. What is the effect of classical music and rock music on blood pressure
and heart rate? I hypothesize that listening to classical music will reduce
blood pressure and heart beat rate while rock music will increase blood
pressure and heart rate. This is because slower classical music can calm
listeners while rock music is loud and fast which will make heart beats
faster and blood pressure to go up.
ii. What is the effect of consuming sugar on heart rate? I hypothesize that
consuming sugar will increase the heart rate because breaking down of
glucose into cellular energy increases metabolism.
2. Cite a peer reviewed source that relates to ONE of your questions (1 point). Use

3. Summarize the findings of the source and explain how this relates to the
question (2 points).
The study determined the effect of different musical styles on serum cortisol
concentrations, heart rate and blood pressure. In the study, 3 groups of 60 people
listened to different compositions for 25 minutes and control group was assigned by
rested in silence. The subjects’ serum cortisol concentrations, heart rate and blood
pressure were measured before and after listening to music. It was found out that
music by Mozart and Strauss can reduce blood pressure and heart rate. For our study,
we can also examine heart rate and blood pressure of subjects while they listen to
classical and rock song.
