Lesson LG: SWBAT analyze urinalysis results to diagnose disease and
3.4.3 dysfunction in human body systems.

Urinalysis Lab Conclusion
Directions: Read through the exemplar data and compare it to the data you collected
yesterday. Answer the analysis questions by typing directly in this document and submit to
Google classroom.

Exemplar Data
TABLE 1. Specific Gravity Test Results
SAMPLE  OBSERVATIONS  SPECIFIC GRAVITY  KIDNEY FUNCTION

Patient 1  Both beads sink  Less than 1.010 g/mL  Very poor

Patient 2  One sinks, one floats  1.010 to 1.015 g/mL  Possible problems

Patient 3  Both beads sink  Less than 1.010 g/mL  Very poor

Patient 4  Both beads float  Greater than 1.015 g/mL  healthy

Patient 5  One sinks, one floats  1.000 to 1.015 g/mL  Possible problems

Analysis Questions
1. How does your data compare to the exemplar data?
Well almost all of the patients in the exemplar data has kidney problems except for one
and in my data there’s only one patient with kidney problems
2. What are some possible sources of error in your experiment?
We probably didn’t have enough time to finish and we probably didn't add the right
amount of fluids or didn't leave the fluids to boil the necessary amount of time
3. what are some possible areas of improvement in your experiment? Maybe use a
timer to take the right amount of time and a measurement tool to measure the fluids.
Based on the exemplar data, what health concerns would you look further into for
each patient? Give evidence for your recommendation.
a. Patient 1: Urinary infection
b. Patient 2: level of vitamin D
c. Patient 3: Diabetes History

Date: ____________
Class Period: ______

d. Patient 4: Blood pressure

e. Patient 5: kidney stone
3. Select one possible patient diagnosis. What is the relationship between what you
see in the urinalysis and the disease or disorder? Urinary infection because both
beads sink

4. What further tests should be done to confirm your diagnosis?
Do the gravity test again test strips.
5. What are possible treatments for your patient? penicillin
