ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

;
Dane Yates is composer and collaborator focusing on electroacoustic practices and the c o n d u i t
relationship between music, dance and film. His work focuses on the organic and the
subversion of subject, resulting in commissioned works, performances throughout Australia,
;
and a release on Perth based label Twice Removed. Dane has continually collaborated with
dance and movement based works through WAAPA (Western Australian Academy of
Performing Arts) and dance companies STRUT and Co3 as well as independent works
leading to award winning pieces in the 2016 Perth Fringe and performances in Sydney and
Melbourne Fringe Festivals. Dane’s collaboration with film has led to screenings around
Australia and internationally, including an award winning score in the 2016 Revelation Film
Festival (WA) for “Revelation Award for Best Music Soundtrack”.

Antonio Rinaldi hails from Melbourne, Victoria. He received full scholarship and studied at
the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS) from 2007-2012. In 2013, he
moved to Perth, Western Australia and undertook his Diploma of Dance at The Western
Australia of the Performing Arts (WAAPA). He followed suit with obtaining his Advanced
Diploma of Dance and Bachelor of Arts in Dance. Currently, he is finishing his Bachelor of
Honours (Dance) in LINK Dance Company- the graduate dance company run by WAAPA's
very own, Michael Whaites. In 2015, he was fortunate enough to be awarded the Paulette
Carson Scholarship for Dance. Antonio has performed with West Australian Opera (2013)
West Australian Ballet (2015) and has worked with the likes of Nils Christe & Annegien
Sneep, Sue Healey, Kim McCarthy, Scott Ewen, Isabella Stone, Michael Getman, Raewyn Hill
(Co3) and Maurice Causey. He has an intense curiosity and admiration for choreography; this
will be the third time Antonio and Dane have collaborated with both their music and dance
respectively.

Brendan Polain is a Music Composition & Technology graduate from WAAPA/ECU, where he
also works as an Education Support Officer. He has a background in theatre, and has
composed and recorded original music for fifteen years, touring both nationally and
internationally. His first credit as a recording engineer is due out later this year ("Grey
Matter" / Yokohomos) and he has an original film project currently in preproduction.

PROGRAM NOTES
conduit; is a single dance work performed in two iterations exploring the
separation of body and mind and our modes of interaction with ourselves,
emotions and others. The work questions power struggles and connections made
between several platforms of thinking, and the human response and reaction that
comes from each mode of thought process. Rinaldi's choreography is both strong
and vulnerable, boldly exploring human connection, creating twisted and
morphed sculptures from the cast.

With each performance of the work, the music is altered in ways reacting from the
movement, and the mode of thinking explored. The music explores laptop
production and composing within a studio environment as well as a further
iteration exploring live electroacoustic performance and interaction with the
movement.

The work features live projections captured and directed by Brendan Polain which
explore dualities and associated ideas corresponding to the idea/s of separation
cast and connecting. The images collate a surreal backdrop for the performers to
; engage with, the static energy and vast array of images result in an obscured
noah beck reality further perplexed through electronic glitching of the film.
