Introduction

Everyone needs a vacation at some time. Teenagers often have big dreams of leaving their hometowns and
schools far behind. For this project, you will have the opportunity to do just that. You will research a vacation
destination anywhere in the world and what it takes to get from here to there. Each student will have a
budget of $2,500 to pay for transportation, sightseeing, souvenir shopping, lodging, etc. Students may
complete the project on their own or in pairs.

After the destination has been chosen and approved, the research begins. You should find the required
information and complete the worksheet provided to document the research process. You must remember
to cite all sources in a bibliography at the end of the project.

For this project, you will document the results of your researching efforts by creating a digital, multimedia
travel presentation using PowerPoint or

Powerpoint.
• d. The websites listed are suggestions only. Other sites may be used.
• e. Tell the students they will be creating a PowerPoint presentation based on the vacation
research to present to the class.
a. Students will use the Student Information Sheet – Planning a Vacation handout guide for the
required elements of the presentation.
• F. Be sure to include the qualities of a good Power Point presentation including:

• Resisting the temptation to reduce type sizes to make things fit.
• Keeping text parallel.
• Using bullets with caution.
• Being consistent.
• Running spell check.

IMPORTANT POWERPOINT PRESENTATION GUIDELINES

Students will be expected to share the finished presentation with the class.
Presentation elements include:
a. Duration—five-seven minutes.
b. Number of slides—varies from 16 and 22.
c. Slide order--with the exception of the introduction, conclusion, and sources, slides/pages may be
arranged in an order different from the outline.

Tulum essentially has two seasons—the dry season goes from November to May and the wet season begins in June and ends in October.
Even with the increased rain chances this month, it's still a great time to visit the resort that's part of the Riviera Maya. Many people flock to
the beautiful beaches and the historic and mystic ruins this time of the year. The average daily temperature this month is 28°C (about
82°F). With the higher rainfall, the humidity increases, but is mostly dissipated by the sea breezes.
Compared to May, which sees around 108 mm, the rainfall amounts this month jump up to 187 mm. The rain falls over 12 days in the
month, so bring along the umbrella in case you encounter rainy days during your holiday. Thunderstorms are a possibility this time of the
year, but fortunately any storms are short-lived and pass through quickly. The chance of rain on any given day is 20 percent.
At night, the lows drop down to 24°C (about 75°F), so it can still feel pretty steamy, even overnight. Thankfully, most hotels have air
conditioning to keep you comfortable. In the heat of the day, the temperature jumps up to 31°C (around 88°F). Bring along your swimsuit as
you'll want to take advantage of the warm sea water. It averages 28°C (about 82°F) this time of the year. You'll also want to soak in every
hour of daylight, which averages about seven hours each day.
The highest recorded temperature for this part of the Yucatan Peninsula reached a balmy 36°C (about 97°F). The lowest recorded
temperature dropped down to a still pleasant 21°C (around 70°F), although, you'll most likely not have to contend with such extreme highs
and lows during your stay.
Where to Stay
Offering a combination of affordable rooms, convenient location, and helpful amenities, the Posada Lune del Sur is a great place for
couples, single travelers, and families visiting Tulum. The hotel offers two different room configurations, the king suite and double twin
room. All the rooms come with a separate seating area, private balcony or patio with seating, and a private bathroom. Each morning you'll
be treated to a complimentary made-to-order breakfast.
Piedra Escondida Hotel is a good hotel for families, couples and single travelers and also appeals to the those travelling on a budget.
Though small in size, the hotel provides a charming blend of warm, friendly service and fresh Caribbean seafood, local Mexican fare, and
tasty Italian cuisine. The beautiful, neutral rooms have large doors that open to the beach, providing you with amazing views of the beach.
All the rooms also have private balconies.
Located near the Mayan fishing village of Tulum, Hotel Posada 06 Tulum sits close to the beach as well as the jungle. It offers guests
delicious local dishes and spacious rooms, as well as outdoor activities and excursions such as snorkeling, boat trips, and guided trips to
the Mayan ruins. All the rooms come with breakfast, private patio or deck with views to enjoy the June weather, private bathrooms, air-
conditioning, in-room safe, and refrigerator.
Things to Do
Not for the faint-hearted, kiteboarding is an exciting activity to get your heart pumping on your trip to Tulum. Extreme Control offers
kiteboarding classes for everyone, from beginners to advanced riders. The one-hour introduction course provides all the basics you need to
start kiteboarding. The knowledgeable instructors show you how to use all the equipment, understand the concepts of wind windows and
power zones, and provide safety tips.
One of the most popular spots to visit in Tulum, Xel-H Park is not to be missed. This amazing aquatic theme park and self-described
"ecotourism development" offers wonderful insight into the area's astounding natural beauty. Here, visitors have the opportunity to enjoy an
array of activities in the June heat including snorkeling, scuba diving, swimming, hiking, and biking.
The Casa Cenote, or Cenote Manatee as it's also known, is a beautiful spot to spend the afternoon swimming and snorkeling. It's one of
the only open-air cenotes in the area, so you can enjoy the sunshine as you splash around in the water or sit up on the beach. With its wide
open spaces and clear water, the cenote is also a great place for inexperienced divers to practice their underwater diving skills in a safe
and controlled environment.
Hit the Beach
Another popular beach club along the Tulum stretch of beach is Ziggy's, which is found between the The Beach Tulum Hotel and Cabanas
Tulum Hotel. This section of beach has two sections, one for hotel guests and one day visitors. Day visitors must spend at least $25 per
person at the bar and restaurant to use the beach's umbrellas, loungers, and sunbeds. Be sure to spend some time in the water, with an
average temperature of 28°C (about 82°F) in June.
Eating and Drinking Out
Located in the Mi Amor hotel, Unico Restaurant offers a high-class, yet laid-back, atmosphere and top-quality foods. The al fresco dining
room has amazing views of the Caribbean Sea and beach, casual wear is appropriate for dining. The menu includes dishes made from
locally-sourced ingredients and the resident mixologist creates unique and delicious drinks to complement the food.
The chefs at Cenzontle take traditional Mexican dishes and mix them with flavours from around the world. The fusion menu includes small
plates and tapas, meant to be shared with the entire table. Work your way through the menu, starting with the appetizers like duck carnitas
and move onto the main dishes such as rabbit birras. Don't miss the dessert menu, which rotates daily, or the long list of yummy cocktails.
If you're looking for a little something else to go with your dinner, head over to La Coqueta, which has live music and dancing throughout
the week. It's tucked away near the Tulum ruins and a popular spot with both tourists and locals. The casual establishment serves up
Mexican favourites like burritos, huevos rancheros, and chips and salsa. The menu also has a large selection of fresh fish and seafood
dishes, included breaded fish and ceviche.
