SYNTROL®-Technology

What is SYNTROL® ?

SYNTROL has been developed by Nill-Tech.

SYNTROL is a technology to convert

- plastics waste and/or
- waste oil
into a product oil similar to fuel oil.
SYNTROL® : the loop closes

synthesis,
crude oil, polymerisation
derivatives

„feedstock recycling“ plastics

waste

SYNTROL®

thermolysis
1000 kilograms of plastics yield approx. 800 kilograms of oil
Properties of the product oil

SYNTROL® fuel oil

Unit
product oil extra light
DIN 51603-1
net calorific value > 42,6 > 42,6 MJ/kg
density at 15°C < 850 < 850 kg/m³
viscosity at 20°C <6 <6 mm²/s
ash content << 0,01 0,01 %
sulphur - standard quality ~0 < 2000 mg/kg
sulphur - low sulphur quality ~0 < 50 mg/kg
heavy metals ~0 not specified

The sulphur content in the product oil is dependent upon the quality of the feeding material
Typical use for product oil

SYNTROL is the key to decouple the treatment of waste from the

use of energy in time and space.

Environmental issues

¾ 60 % less CO2-emissions compared to waste

incineration plants per unit of electricity produced

¾ Local or regional treatment of waste:

less transportation

¾ Local or regional use of energy:

less transportation
Environment: mass flow
„leakage-free“ design:
3,4 - 10 Mio. m³/a
Æ no diffuse emissions
noise < 70 db(A)
flue gas

5000 t/a 3600 t/a
of which 4500 t/a (4200 m³/a)
are convertible
to oil residue
860 - 1175 t/a

2 trucks per day collecting basin

(groundwater protection)
Economy

¾ high energy efficiency

¾ easy service and maintenance

¾ low wear

¾ process safety

¾ Benefit from Nill-Tech‘s solid experience in design

and construction of process plants

SYNTROL®: the synthesis of ecology & economy

Turning a cost function into a revenue function !

¾ by selling SYNTROL® - product oil
¾ by generation of electricity and heat for own needs
¾ by selling of (surplus) electricity and heat

Saving resources by substitution of fossil fuels

¾ more than 80% of the chemical energy of the plastics is
recovered as product oil!
The Pros of SYNTROL® ?

• Highly efficient in terms of energy conversion

ca. 95%

• High yield of product oil:

ca. 80%

• Regional treatrment in compact plants

Short distances
2 to 3 lines for the waste plastics of approx. 1‘000‘000 people

• Product oil substitutes fuel oil

well suited for combined heat and power plant
