L. I. F. E. Life. What is life, actually?

Do we not see its value just because we have it so long as

we are conscious? Do we not realize its worth until we are the ones in the deathbed?
What is it worth?
Do we value a person’s life by his appearance? Such that men of color are more often shot at
than the whites?
Do we value a person’s life by its social standing? Such that nations wail over the death of an
international figure, but not for the innocent civilians slain in the war?
Do we value a person’s life by its potential to survive? Which is why we justify inducing death for
the terminally ill?
Do we value a person’s life by the ages it has lived, the pedestals it has reached, and the
legacies it has left, that we no longer value life in the union of two gametes just because it took
place in an unprepared womb?
Make no mistake. Life has dignity in itself. Be not blinded by lives tainted by men’s erring. Each
live is dignified, no matter where, when, or how it is being lived.
DIGNITY is our worth, our value. Do you know how special humans are? The last thing that God
created in this world is us, humans. We are not created like any other of His creations. He
formed us. He gave humans the superiority and domination. He gave us His image and
likeness. We are His masterpiece.
He breathed into us the breath of life. LIFE. The gift of life. He gave us life but this life is only
borrowed. This life is not ours, but His. He holds life in His hands and God can only decide what
to do with it.
But we do have a right to this life. RIGHT. Our rights. The right to freedom. Right to education.
Right to work. Right to freedom of expression. The right to live. We all have these rights. Your
rights. But sometimes, we love our rights too much and often less think of others’. What about
my rights, their rights, and others’ rights?
Rights, life, dignity – these are the things that we have but sometimes abuse or take for granted.
Rights, life, dignity – we will always have these but respect. Respect is something to be earned,
yes, but it is what we deserve.
Respect Human Dignity. Respect Human Life. Respect Human Rights.
Let us not abuse these rights, but own it.
Let us not end life, but treasure it.
Let us not lower dignity but uphold it.
Dignity. Life. Right. Respect.
