(NTS: Edit section as necessary. If more than one tank, add "plurals". Parenthesis in text
indicate a choice.)
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 DESCRIPTION:
A. Provide and test (a) fiberglass fuel-oil storage tank(s) and appurtenances, as indicated and
specified.
1.03 REFERENCES:
C. NFPA 31: Standard for Installation of Oil Burning Equipment of the National Fire
Protection Association.
E. Equivalent British/European codes and standards may be used; however, the equivalency
shall be demonstrated and submitted by the Contractor and approved by the CM/CS.
1.04 SUBMITTALS:
C. Chock tank until ready for installation and if necessary tie it down, in accordance with
manufacturer's instructions.
D. Lift tank by installation lugs and with proper equipment. Do not use chain or cables
around tank at any time. If tank has to be moved, set on smooth ground free of rocks and
foreign objects, and rechock.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
(NTS: Keep subparagraph "A" if more than one tank or specify quantity herein.)
A. Quantity indicated on drawings.
2.02 APPURTENANCES:
B. Provide pipe for fill and vent lines of standard weight black steel pipe using malleable-
iron screwed fittings, except make that portion of fill and fuel supply pipes-dip tubes-
inside tank, of glass fiber reinforced plastic.
D. Fill cap: Lock-type with quick closing cap and chain and a tight fill connection.
G. Vent: Weighted pressure type incorporating a vacuum relief set at 4 ounces for use in
connection with an alarm whistle.
I. Remote reading tank-level gage: Calibrated in gallons to suit capacity of tank and
located as indicated on drawings. Place no moving part inside tank. Acceptable gage
manufactures: Petrometer Corp., New Hyde Park, NY; Simmonds Precision, Bellows
Falls, VT; Pneumercator Co., New York, NY; or an acceptable equivalent product.
Provide sufficient communicating tubing to make an unbroken connection between tank
and gage dial in building.
J. Install communicating tubing in a protective pipe made of glass fiber reinforced plastic.
K. Provide fuel-oil storage tank with a gage chart calibrated to show tank capacity in gallons
per inch of depth and a gage stick calibrated in feet, inches, and eighths.
L. Gage stick: 10 ft.(3 m) long and made of wood. Treat stick after graduating to prevent
swelling and damage from fuel. Provide a gage chart to read in feet and inches by eights
of an inch versus gallons, and mount in an acceptable glass frame on wall where directed
by CM/CS.
A. Cover buried steel pipe with a pressure-sensitive adhesive tape made of polyvinylchloride
or an acceptable equivalent product, not less than 0.010-in.(0.25 mm) thick. Make sure
pipe surfaces are clean and dry before application. Remove oil and grease, if present,
with a suitable solvent.
B. Cover fittings and exposed pipe threads with one wrap of tape prior to spiral wrapping.
Spirally wrap tape the length of pipe using one-half lap for double thickness and using a
precoat, all as recommended by manufacturer of tape.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 INSTALLATION:
A. Install (each) fiberglass fuel-oil storage tank on a previously placed concrete mat covered
with a bed of pea gravel. Firmly secure tank to anchors provided in concrete mat.
Provide anchor brackets, anchor rods, or fiber glass hold down straps, as recommended
by tank manufacturer, to hold tank on gravel bed.
B. Installation: Conform to NFPA 30 and NFPA 31 and all state and local codes and to
manufacturer's instructions.
3.02 TESTING:
A. After placing on pea gravel bed, test (each) tank with air at 5 psig (35 kPa), or at pressure
recommended by manufacturer. Plug and check all tank openings with soap solution
during test. Insofar as practical, use bushings and plugs installed during test in the final
installed units. Maintain test pressure for at least one hour or longer as required to
determine that tank is not leaking.
