Educational Plan for the Street Children

Introduction:

Information on local street children needs to be collected because the characteristics and
situations of street children are different in every country, city and neighbourhood.
Assessments help in formulating workable strategies for responding to the needs and
problems of street children. For example, the kind of services needed, and how and where
the services should be offered. Assessments also help in monitoring whether services are
producing the desired effect and whether there is a need for a change in strategies.
Results from the assessments should be used to create awareness about the causes of
street children’s problems and their relationship with other issues. Street children need
greater protection and recognition. Every child has a right to education. There are many
children live in the slums and streets. They have little or no access to basic education.
Although there are many public schools which provide free education many parents
cannot afford to send their children to schools due to financial and
social factors. Being members of very poor families, these children are often
involved in different odd jobs to supplement their family income. In results there are
many ignorant and illeterate children.

Objectives:

To educate the street children

To enhance the accessibility to education facilities
To integrate child literacy with environmental and vocational training so that
education becomes meaningful in their lives.

Assessing the Situation:

Assessment helps in understanding the needs and problems of street children. It also provides
an idea about their environment. Adequate assessment is essential before any intervention is
attempted. The goal of the assessment is to know the specific problems should the assessment
address. The purpose of the initial assessment may be the determination of the problem and
needs, while the purpose of ongoing assessment may be to provide feedback on the specific
issues to be addressed.

Plan of Discussions:
- Getting to know each other.
Approach the child in a manner that will make him/ her feel comfortable. Say who you
are and ask the child to tell you his/her name. Don’t ask questions that might
make the child feel threatened or suspicious. Keep the questions simple and general. Show that
you are genuinely interested in the child.

- Asking them there favorite subjects.

Asking them a questions about there favorite subjects makes the child willing to listen. It
catches the full attention of a child beacuse he/she can relate it.

Plan of Teaching:

Group Work
- in making a group task every child has the chance to work with their group sharing ideas. The
purpose of a group task is to have a love and belonging and to develop a friendship with the
children.

Individual Work
- in the individual work one should trust his/her own knowlegde in order for her to develop self-
confidence. He should believed and look positively with his work in order for her to have a seff-
esteem.

Self-Reflection
- one should assess his/her work and relate it to her personal experience beacuse in this the
child will be creative to share her work to others. After that a child will learn from all her
experiences and accepting the reality. He will get self-actualization if he should face all the
problems with no hesitations beacuse in life there is no backforward and restructure the bad
things done.
