Expression Project

“Beauty without expression is boring.”

-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Each group will create a presentation on a problem that plagues modern society in the
form of expression assigned. This presentation should define your selected problem, express
your opinion regarding the issue, and provide a possible solution. The individual group tasks are
outlined below.

Poetry As a group, write a 6-12 line poem. Your poem can rhyme but does not have to. It
can have meter, or it can free verse. Your group may also choose to structure the
poem like a canto. While constructing your work, consider literary devices and the
tone that you intend to convey. Be prepared to read your poem aloud to the class.

Music As a group, write a one minute song or rap pertaining to your selected problem.
Choose a common song and change the lyrics to fit your topic. Since music is sung
poetry, refer to the poetry guidelines listed above for extended guidance. Be
prepared to sing this to the class and find a link to the instrumental version of your
song for the presentation.

Dance As a group, create a one minute dance piece to convey your message. Make sure
the music you choose and the movement all contribute to the overarching idea you
are trying to portray. Be prepared to perform dance to the class and bring a link of
the music you are using.

As a group, choose a problem from the ones your group members found for homework
then brainstorm your ideas for the core of your presentation on the back. Once your ideas are
outlined, you can then begin to get creative with your group’s task!
