Acknowledgments

God’s greatest gift to me is my best friend and wife JoAnn, without whose constant love and support I could not have accomplished this, or any project, that we feel is of God for our lives. I do not know what I’d do without her!

To Bridlewood Church, those forty families who have supported the vision of Come Pray With Me and whose dedication made it possible. Despise not the day of small beginnings. You are an example to the world that size matters never lose sight of how BIG God is regardless of how small you may feel. Little is much when God is in it. I am proud of you and blessed to be your pastor. Thanks for believing in me.

Discovering Your Life Patterns Psalm One Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel

Psalm One

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful;

But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night.

He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.

The ungodly are not so, but are like the chaff which the wind drives away.

Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly shall perish. (NKJ)

Discovering Your Life Patterns Introduction How does one stand at the mouth of the Mississippi River

Introduction

How does one stand at the mouth of the Mississippi River and distinguish from which tributary, stream or creek each molecule of water came? It would be impossible. Though each have their separate and distinct origins, after flowing together for hundreds of miles, all ultimately become one mighty river entering into the Gulf of Mexico. This work is an expression of all the streams that have found their way into the gulf of my heart. It is impossible to footnote the origin of every thought. I can only recognize those lives whose teachings have influenced the course of my spiritual walk. As a child I had the foundation of my parents who taught my sisters and I the Word of God in our home. I had great Bible teaching pastors including Lester Roloff, Dr. Bob Gray and Dr. W.A. Criswell. There were also many evangelists who preached memorable revivals and tent meetings. As a boy of ten at my home church, Trinity Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Florida, I can still hear the voice of Joe Boyd preaching with fervor in that big tent, as I kicked at the sawdust while on the front row a drunk man laughed uncontrollably at his stories. I walked the sawdust aisle that night and made public my faith in Christ. After an education at Criswell Bible Institute and Baylor University, I served as a missionary in Singapore and the central Pacific during the nineteen seventies. My Chinese friends introduced me to the writings of Watchman Nee and Jeanne Guyon. Both were martyrs Nee in China during the late nineteen seventies and Guyon in France during the fifteenth century. Their writings introduced me to the eternal purposes of God’s Kingdom. The Bible says there is nothing new under the sun. There is nothing “new” in what I’ve written. The Truth has always been with the Father from the beginning. Through

my own experiences and “baptisms of fire,” God has brought some “rain of revelation” into my life. It is that experience of revelation that I share with you. Thirty years as a missionary, pastor and teacher, I have experienced the Truth of “Life Patterns.” May you find direction from these principles to see your Life Patterns become prosperous ones.

Life Patterns

Have you discovered your Life Patterns? Do you know what they are? Can you recognize their signs? Do you understand why they occur in your life?

Do you realize your Life Patterns are affected by

the Life Patterns of others?

everyone around you. They can be enriched or changed. Do you know how?

Your Life Patterns affect

This easy to understand approach to God’s Word will help you discover your Life Patterns, how to determine the principles creating them and what you can do to enrich godly Life Patterns while changing undesirable ones.

Twice a year I see Canadian geese flying over in their “V” formation to that familiar “honking” sound, once going south and again going north. This is a Life Pattern in nature.

The principle creating this Life Pattern in nature is

the change in the seasons. change, the geese fly.

When the weather begins to

It is actually two patterns - a “pattern within a pattern.” The geese flying in their Life Pattern signifies a change in the Life Pattern of the weather. When I see the first pattern, I know a change in the second pattern is just

17

Discovering Your Life Patterns

Discovering Your Life Patterns around the corner. When I see one, I can expect the second.

around the corner. When I see one, I can expect the second.

So it is with your Life Patterns. Many times there will be a “Pattern within a Pattern.” One pattern will be the principle cause for another pattern. If you will change the principle cause, you can change the Life Pattern. Reinforce the cause and you strengthen the pattern.

Change the Principle Change the Life Pattern

When you set into motion one Life Pattern, others will

follow Patterns of Prosperity or Patterns of Poverty.

Say you have a bag of marbles.

Let each marble

represent an area of your life. You take one out at a time and drop it. It goes straight to the floor. You repeat this with several more marbles. They all go straight to the floor. A pattern is developing they are all falling to the floor. You can expect this pattern to continue with every marble you drop from your hand. The pattern is created by the principle of gravity. The law of gravity is greater than the weight of the marble and controls its behavior. The marble becomes enslaved by gravity. Principles or laws create spiritual as well as physical patterns. Like the marbles, your Life Patterns are subject to the principles you apply to them. Left to its own course, life will fall to the floor. That’s the principle of sin. Sin brings everything down.

18

Discovering Your Life Patterns

Discovering Your Life Patterns Now you take a marble from the bag; but instead of dropping

Now you take a marble from the bag; but instead of dropping it you throw it. The marble does not immediately drop to the floor. It flies through the air. You have changed the principles controlling the marble’s behavior and created a new pattern. The principles of energy and thrust now overcome the principle of gravity and change the pattern of the marble. Apply a greater principle than gravity to the marble and you can change the pattern. Sustaining those greater principles for an indefinite period of time is the problem. Solve that one and you can retire to the Riviera. To permanently escape gravity’s hold and get the marble completely outside the realm of gravity would require going into “outer space.” That would take the power of a rocket. But once the marble is outside the controls of gravity, it requires very little energy to create new patterns. In outer space gravity has no affect upon the marble. God has provided many divine principles when properly applied will take any area of your life into God’s “inner space” called “Life in the Spirit.” Sin (Patterns of Poverty) has no control over you when you walk “in the Spirit.” You are free of its effects. You are no longer its slave. You can easily create new Life Patterns. God wants you to “walk in space.” He wants you to “walk in the Spirit.” The Cross of Calvary is God’s Titan II rocket that provides the lift and thrust necessary to set your Life Patterns free from the pull of sin. Once you are outside its controls, God’s Spirit is free to create your new Life Patterns. In 1903, the Wright brothers had a dream to fly. Many of that era said, “It’s not natural for man to fly, flying is for the birds.” But Orville and Wilbur had discovered something - the unseen principles of thrust and lift. It took hundreds of attempts before they discovered the “Wright” application of these unseen principles to their

man-made bird. After many trial runs and crash landings, scoffing from peers and no doubt times when they wanted to quit, history was changed at Kitty Hawk because two bicycle mechanics believed in the unseen. They believed that two unseen principles when properly applied to a physical object would cause it to overcome the chains of gravity and enable them to fly like birds.

Their first successful flight went only a few hundred feet barely getting off the ground; but with every new test flight, they went further and higher. Their plane only had enough thrust and lift for one person, but soon that small canvas “bird” changed

everything.

never give a second thought as they fly non-stop around the world thousands of feet off the ground. Jets weighing thousands of pounds and carrying hundreds of people leave the confines of gravity and soar like birds through the skies. Man has gone to the moon and beyond because two brothers saw something very few did. Dedicating their whole lives to two unseen principles, they gave the world a new Life Pattern the pattern of flight.

Today millions enjoy their discovery and

Faith is the greatest principle in the universe.

Orville and Wilbur had tremendous faith in the unseen natural laws of the universe. They knew these forces controlled every physical object around them. When fully understood and applied, these forces entirely changed how their physical world operated. Instead of gravity controlling them, they now controlled the effects of gravity over their Life Patterns. They discovered that anything they put in the plane also overcame the effects of gravity.

20

Discovering Your Life Patterns

Discovering Your Life Patterns Soon others began building airplanes. Orville and Wilbur’s faith in the unseen

Soon others began building airplanes. Orville and Wilbur’s faith in the unseen inspired others to also do the impossible. Many became prosperous by carrying mail and freight by plane. Commercial airlines followed. Anything put in a plane would rise above the earth and benefit from this new discovery, but anything not in a plane would be left on the ground. How much greater are the spiritual laws or unseen principles that govern the universe? Faith is the greatest spiritual principle in the universe. Discover the depths of applied faith in God and you unlock the secrets of prosperous Life Patterns. Whatever you put in your “airplane of faith” will also rise above the circumstances and situations controlling your Life Patterns. At first you may fly only a few feet off the ground; but as you continue applying the principle of faith, you will soon soar like an eagle. You may start out at Kitty Hawk, but before long you will be soaring to the moon.

Two Principles Control All Life Patterns

Either faith in God or fear, the opposite of faith, controls all your Life Patterns. Faith and fear are the same

principle. Faith operates in the positive while fear operates in the negative. Faith believes in God’s ability in

spite of the circumstances.

ability in light of the situation. My wife JoAnn says, “Fear is faith in the enemy.” When you have faith in God as your operating principle, you will have peace of mind about any circumstance Patterns of Prosperity. If you are relying upon your own ability or resources to overcome the situation, worry and stress always develops Patterns of Poverty. What Life Patterns are presently controlling your world? Would you like to change them? Do you know

Do you want to see your Life Patterns enriched or changed? Do you want Patterns of Poverty of Patterns of Prosperity controlling your life?

If you do not choose to live by the Principles of God, Patterns of Poverty will result by default. All your marbles will fall to the floor. You may inherit a fortune by some windfall, win the Power Ball lottery (even a blind hog finds an acorn from time to time), but Patterns of Poverty will dominate the other areas of your life.

That financial windfall may keep Patterns of Poverty in other areas from being changed. Many “wealthy” people live in Patterns of Poverty because they are relying upon their own resources. They own the finest “things” money can buy, but have no happiness, peace of mind, or contentment. “Money can’t buy you love.”

King David of Israel knew the Patterns of Prosperity in his life were the result of keeping the Principles of God’s Word.

Your Life Patterns Produce Two Types of Fruit

Your Life Patterns produce two types of fruit: the fruit of the Spirit, which is life, or the fruit of the flesh, which is death. Life or death, prosperity or poverty, the choice is yours. You will benefit or suffer from the fruit of your Life Patterns.

The Fruit of the Spirit

or

The Fruit of the Flesh

So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under law.

The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;

idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions

and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.

Discovering Your Life Patterns Your spouse, children, loved ones and friends will either benefit or suffer

Your spouse, children, loved ones and friends will either benefit or suffer from the fruit of your Life Patterns. The fruit of your Life Patterns will be reproduced in their lives.

And so, the cycle continues from one generation to the next.

The Bible says the sins of the parents (Patterns of Poverty) shall be passed down to the fourth generation (Ex.34: 7). What Life Patterns have your parents reproduced in your

life?

Patterns are you reproducing in the lives of your children?

How can you enrich good Life Patterns and change harmful ones?

Are they good or bad Life Patterns? What Life

Patterns of Prosperity

or

Patterns of Poverty

Your life produces both “Patterns of Prosperity” and “Patterns of Poverty.” Patterns of Prosperity are evident by an “abundance” of the fruit of the Spirit in certain areas of your life. You may have an abundance of love, joy, time, patience, finances or understanding, etc.

Abundance is the result of living by godly principles. Living by godly principles will create “Patterns of Abundance.” Jesus said, “I have come that you

25

Discovering Your Life Patterns

Discovering Your Life Patterns may have life and have it more abunda ntly” (John 10:10). God

may have life and have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). God desires that every area of your life produces “Patterns of Prosperity.”

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” 3 John 1:2

When “Patterns of Poverty” are reoccurring in your life, there will be a lack of the fruit of the Spirit in certain areas a lack of love, joy, time, patience, finances or understanding, etc. To change “Patterns of Poverty,” you must begin to live by the “Principles of God” that control those areas. That is how new patterns are created and enriched.

The Blessings of God or The Curses of Sin

“Patterns of Prosperity” are the blessings of God. “Patterns of Poverty” are the curses of sin. “Patterns of Poverty” keep you from fulfilling God’s purpose for your life. You can never reach your full potential in Christ by constantly “living in lack.”

26

Discovering Your Life Patterns

Discovering Your Life Patterns “No Satisfaction” Guarantee Is this a pattern of your life? You work

“No Satisfaction” Guarantee

Is this a pattern of your life? You work hard all week so you can go to the mall and buy “stuff” to make you happy. When the “happy” wears off (long before the balance is paid off), you’re back to the mall looking for more stuff to make you happy. Before long, this pattern of “Buy Stuff to Make Me Happy” has you enslaved to thousands of dollars in credit card debt. Does this makes you happy? No, it makes you depressed. The Principle of God’s Word clearly states:

The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower {becomes} the lender's slave. Prov. 22:7-8 (NAS)

So like a slave, you go back to the mall to buy more stuff that can’t make you happy, even though your flesh agrees with the lies of TV commercials that “stuff” will make you happy, and you run up your debt even more. This is a Pattern of Poverty. It is producing an abundance of “stuff” in your life, but a lack of peace, joy and happiness.

Debt is the chains of slavery that will hold you in Patterns of Poverty.

Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one

has fulfilled the law.

Rom 13:8 (NIV)

Stuff cannot make you happy. That is why Madison Avenue has to change the style of “stuff” every season. They want you to believe that “new stuff” can make you happy.

“Stuff” can’t make you happy. Yet, you will spend your hard-earned money, that God gave you the talent and ability to make, and in “fear” go into debt to find “happiness.” Then on Sunday morning you say to yourself, “I really cannot afford to tithe right now.”

You will become indebted to the world to find happiness (but never will), yet you won’t go “into debt to God” to find real joy and fulfillment. Duh! Quit listening to the principles of the world and start living by God’s Word.

"Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, 'In what way have we robbed You?' In tithes and offerings.

You are cursed with a curse, for you have robbed Me, even this whole nation.

Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this," says the LORD of hosts, "If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for

"And all nations will call you blessed, for you will be a delightful land," says the LORD of hosts. Mal 3:8-12 (NKJ)

God wants you to prosper in every area of your life. In order to do so, your Life Patterns must be created and controlled by the Principles of God.

Divine Principles are found in the Bible. The lesson learned from studying the lives of every Bible character is that their lives were first controlled by the divine Principles of God before fulfilling His purpose for their lives. As a Believer, living by the divine Principles of God will allow you to reach your full potential in Christ.

Before your Life Patterns can be changed or enriched, you must first be able to recognize them. You can identify your Life Patterns by their fruit. Jesus said, “By their fruit you shall know them.”

Scripture gives two lists of fruit by which to identify your Life Patterns. What fruits are abundantly produced

in your life? How did they get there and what can you do to enrich or change them?

Notice there are almost twice as many fruits of poverty than fruits of prosperity (16 to 9). The odds favor poverty about 2-to-1. You can change those odds of having

an abundant life in Christ by starting with an honest self- evaluation. This can start a wonderful change in your Life Patterns and those around you if you will be honest, identify the fruit that dominates your Life Patterns and commit yourself to the process necessary to change. If you will, God will do the rest. Your life is like a shopping cart. As you go down every aisle, you have a choice as to what you put in your cart. You will pay a price for every item large or small. When you get home, your family will either be enriched with healthy bodies or suffer illness and such because there is no value in what you feed them. The Apostle Paul has provided two lists to determine

Just as your life has patterns, God’s life has patterns too. They are all Patterns of Prosperity. Every pattern of God is good.

God used Himself as a pattern to make man. God made man in His likeness and image. Man is made physically and spiritually from the pattern of God. The pattern God used to fashion man is Jesus Christ.

Jesus is the visible image of the invisible God. Jesus said to His disciples, “He that hath seen me hath seen the Father.” Jesus came to earth to show man what God was like and how God wanted man to live. Jesus is the pattern of God for man to live by. He is the Pattern Son.

Once you become a Christian, God begins a pattern process of making your life like the life of Jesus. His life is the pattern for your life. What Jesus experienced you will experience as you reach your full potential in Christ.

Once you surrender to the call of God’s purpose for your life, He will use every situation and circumstance to transform your life into the pattern life of Jesus.

And we know (faith principle) that all things work together for good (Pattern of Prosperity) to them that love God (principle), to them who are the called according to his purpose (principle).

For whom he did foreknow (principle), he also did predestinate (principle) to be conformed (process) to the image of his Son (pattern), that he might be the firstborn among many brethren

to fashion your life.

throughout the Bible. If you are to ever discover the patterns of God, you must become a disciple of His Word. There is no shortcut. There is no easy way. You must

study, learn and live by His Word.

Those patterns are repeated

“Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth,” 2 Tim 2:15(KJV).

When patterns are found in the Bible, they are called types or foreshadows. The physical pattern (object) will reveal a spiritual principle that God wants to be transferred into your daily living. The Parables taught by Jesus in the Gospels are great examples of physical patterns that teach spiritual principles.

In the parable of the sower of the seed (Mt. 13), the seed is a principle that represents God’s Word. The four types of soil are patterns of the conditions of men’s hearts. The birds represent the demonic spirits. The thorns reveal the repetitious movement of the cares of the world. These patterns and the principles creating them can be seen in your life.

Many times the patterns, or foreshadows, are first seen in the Old Testament and the spiritual principle is revealed in the New Testament.

38

Discovering Your Life Patterns

Discovering Your Life Patterns When the children of Israel were plagued in the wilderness, God told

When the children of Israel were plagued in the wilderness, God told Moses to make a staff and put a brass snake on it. If anyone would look to the serpentine pole, they would be healed (Num. 21).

This seems rather odd; but as you understand in the New Testament that Jesus became sin for us, He took upon Himself our sin and died on the cross, you begin to understand? As you look to what Jesus did on the cross you are spiritually healed. Thus the Old Testament pattern and its New Testament principle is seen.

A pattern is laid upon a piece of cloth, cut out and sewn into a garment. Biblical patterns with all their principle applications must be laid upon the fabric of your life, cut out and sewn into a beautiful garment.

By the power of the Holy Spirit God will fashion your life into a beautiful garment of pure white linen which is the righteousness of God in Christ.

PRINCIPLES

“God works by Patterns based on divine PRINCIPLES

Look for the conflict in the story and you will find the principle. The story of the Three Hebrew Children reveals many divine principles.

In the book of Daniel, the Three Hebrew Children faced a royal law to worship the golden Babylonian image.

The fiery furnace was punishment for disobedience. One Principle being taught is to not worship other gods by bowing down to idols.

The conflict always requires FAITH. That’s how you grow in faith – through conflict! Part of God’s Eternal Purpose for your life is that you grow in faith. The application of principles to your life is learned through faith.

The Three Hebrew Children told the King of Babylon whether God delivered them from a certain fiery death, they would obey God’s Word. Will you obey God’s Word no matter what the outcome? (1 Pet. 1:7, 1 Cor. 3:13) Patterns of Prosperity can never develop in your life without dying obedience to the Principles of God.

ETERNAL PURPOSE

“God works by Patterns based on divine Principles to achieve His ETERNAL PURPOSE in your life”

In the conflict the Three Hebrew Children allowed God to achieve His Eternal Purpose through their lives. God has an Eternal Purpose for your life. What is the Eternal Purpose of God? God wants to use you to show how wise He is to all the Heavenly Hosts both good and bad (Eph. 3:11). In the process He will transform your Life Patterns into the Life Patterns (image) of Jesus Christ (Rom.8: 28-29). Your destiny is God’s Eternal Purpose. Will you reach your God-given destiny? The choice is

PROMISE

“God works by Patterns based on divine Principles to achieve His Eternal Purpose in your life that you may obtain His PROMISE

By being faithful in their test, the Three Hebrew Children received the PROMISE they experienced the Divine Nature of God.

Three were thrown into the fiery furnace bound hand and foot; but in the midst of their test, a fourth man met them in the furnace.

The King said, “Did I not throw three men into the furnace? Why do I see a fourth man who looks like the Son of God?” Do not be afraid of the fire. That is where your Life Patterns are enriched and changed. That is where you meet God face-to-face.

They met Jesus in the furnace! They experienced the SUPERNATURAL. They experienced the divine Life Pattern of God. Being a Christian is a supernatural experience, relationship with Almighty God. Anything else is religion.

In the fire the fourth man was revealed. He is Jesus! And you will always meet Him in your Fire! He will always be revealed in you when you are faithful to go into the fire

PROSPER

“God works by Patterns based on divine Principles to achieve His Eternal Purpose in your life that you may obtain His Promise and PROSPER.”

True Biblical prosperity includes every area of your life, not just finances. Prosperity has a price tag. It does not come easy. There are no magic formulas to recite, “See it, say it and have it.” To experience true Biblical prosperity requires you to go through the fire.

Before the furnace, before the test, before the fire, before being scared (OK, if you’re scared, say you’re scared. It’s OK.), Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were just young men serving God. Actually, they were slaves of Babylon.

After the test, it was a whole different matter. The three went from being slaves of Babylon to Governors of Babylon! That’s right! Impressed by the Life Patterns of God in their lives the King of Babylon made them rulers in his kingdom. They went from slaves (Patterns of Poverty) to rulers (Patterns of Prosperity), but not without the conforming process of fire. They went from the fire to the throne in one day! On the day of the test, their breakthrough came because they did not waiver. They trusted God. They believed in the unseen rather than relying on their own ability in light of the situation.

Your day is coming. Your breakthrough is coming. Are you ready? Get ready for God to change your Life Patterns into His Life Patterns. God wants you to Prosper in His Kingdom, but prosperity

does not come without the fire. Once you enter the Kingdom of God, you begin a “walk in the Spirit” of accountability and responsibility.

You must realize that when you yield to temptation

and fail the test, you miss an opportunity for change. Your Life Patterns cannot be enriched or changed when you

Good news! In God’s Kingdom opportunity knocks more than once. So if you’ve blown it in the past, ask God to give you the power of His Spirit to stand strong next time.

What is KINGDOM PROSPERITY?

Your life produces two types of patterns Patterns of Prosperity and Patterns of Poverty. You are daily reaping the fruit of these two patterns in every area of your life.

Patterns of Prosperity produce abundance. God wants you to have abundance in every area of life, not just

finances. Why? So you can give out of your abundance to others in need.

Does someone need your time? How patient have you been lately? Where is the joy in your life? God wants you to have an abundance to give to others in need. He wants you to be a blessing.

Are you lacking in any of these areas? If so, that is the fruit of the Pattern of Poverty. It is the result of violating God’s divine principles. You cannot give to others what you do not have yourself. “Love thy neighbor as thyself.”

Before Israel entered the “Promise Land,” after forty years of wandering in unbelief, Joshua gave this warning from God.

And thou say in thine heart (principle), My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth (pattern).

But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God (principle): for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth (pattern), that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day (principle).

And it shall be, if thou do at all forget the LORD thy God (principle), and walk after other gods, and serve them, and worship them (pattern), I testify against you this day that ye shall surely perish (pattern).

Just as Joshua led the nation of Israel out of the wilderness, crossed the river Jordan (Jordan means “death” – Patterns of Poverty) and possessed the Promised Land (Patterns of Prosperity),

God wants you to quit wandering in your “wilderness of lack” and cross over your Jordan (overwhelming circumstances) and enter your “Land of Promises” (divine Principles) and begin living in the abundance of His Life Patterns (Joshua 3). He wants every area of your life to cross over your lack and have abundance so that you can give to those around you that are experiencing need. This is the eternal purpose of Kingdom Prosperity.

You Shall Be a Blessing

God told Abraham that he would “be a blessing.” Not only was God going to bless Abraham with material things, but also Abraham was to “be a blessing.”

And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed. Gen 12:2- 3 (KJV)

God wants you to reap from the Patterns of Prosperity that you may “be a blessing” to those who are experiencing “lack.” The blessings of God are not to be consumed upon you.

To “be a blessing,” you must live by the divine Principles of God. This is Kingdom Prosperity. Greed is when you hoard the fruit of prosperity for your own purposes and don’t use them to establish God’s covenant Kingdom. Every Sunday school hero that you have studied from childhood, all the heroes in the Hall of Faith (Hebrews 11) have followed this same simple pattern. God is working every day in your life by this same simple pattern. When you begin to recognize it, you will better understand what God’s Spirit is doing in your life. As you begin to grasp the Principles of the Kingdom, your faith grows. When your faith grows, you become more than a conqueror in all of life’s battles. That’s when your Life Patterns begin to change.

Chapter Two

GOD WORKS BY PATTERNS

To enrich or change your Life Patterns you must first be able to recognize them. It must become your second nature. The faster you can begin to recognize your Life Patterns, the sooner you can enrich or start the process needed to change them.

Patterns are all around you. There are patterns of nature, weather, agriculture, math and science. There are man-made patterns like roads, buildings, sky and ocean lanes, telephone lines, power grids, road signs and on and on. You cannot escape patterns. Even your “Big Mac” is made from a pattern of the original burger.

Patterns are very important in your daily life and in the lives of society, government and virtually everyone around you. The universe turns on patterns. So is it any wonder that patterns can be found in the Bible? Absolutely not! God is a pattern creator.

The Bible is full of patterns. So many they all could not be listed here. Once you begin to see the pattern themes of the Bible, It becomes a very easy book to understand. Just as you understand the symbols on a road map and can easily find your destination, when you begin to see the patterns of the Bible you will discover God’s destiny for your life.

49

Discovering Your Life Patterns

Discovering Your Life Patterns Do you recognize your Life Patterns? Which direction are they taking you?

Do you recognize your Life Patterns? Which direction are they taking you? Toward your Godly destiny or further off the path of abundant living? You can change directions. You can turn your Life Patterns around and get them going in the direction God wants.

The Pattern of the House

The next two sections, The Pattern of the House and The Pattern of Weeks, are very important in understanding from a Biblical perspective how God’s principles can create new Life Patterns. It may be new information to you, but it is important. Please carefully read them. The reason will become clear in the following chapters. One of the most important patterns to see from the Bible is The Pattern of the House. To understand the Principles of Christ and how they apply to your life, you must see that as a Believer your body is the House of God. It is a wonderful house. It is where God lives. He lives there now, today. God is building His House, your life, according to His Master Life Pattern. As a Christian your body is the temple of God. It is where He lives. God made you in His likeness and image. He has patterned your life to become like the Heavenly Pattern He first gave Moses in Exodus. God told Moses to make Him a tabernacle (tent) to dwell in while Israel journeyed through the wilderness. He showed Moses His Heavenly house and said, “Make the tabernacle like this one – exactly like it!”

My Father’s House – A House in Heaven

Jesus said, “Let not your hearts be troubled… I go to prepare a place for you. In my Father’s house…” God has a house in Heaven. And when God wanted to dwell

with Moses in the Wilderness, He wanted His house to be like His house in Heaven exactly like it. God told Moses to make sure everything in His earthly house was to the detail of what he saw in heaven down to the last detail.

God’s House on Earth is a Mobile Home

The only difference in God’s heavenly home and earthly one is that His earthly house is a “mobile home.” The Tabernacle of Moses was a “temporary dwelling place.”

God is on the move. And when He’s traveling on earth “in” man I believe He enjoys the comforts of His Home.

snacks. Oran checks off the mechanical list and packs the tool box. When the list is finished, they hook up to the truck, get in and take off. Whenever they reach their destination, they can enjoy most all the comforts of home right where they are. Your body is God’s Mobile Home packed with all the goodies from Heaven. (He packs the House!) Those “goodies” are His Life Patterns of heavenly fruits and gifts. If He gets hungry, there’s fruit. If there’s a job He needs to do, there’s the tool box filled with spiritual gifts. Notice the emphasis is when “He” gets hungry, not when “You” get hungry. Your body is His house! When Moses finished building the Tabernacle in the Wilderness, it was exactly like the One he was shown on the mountaintop. Only difference, it was mobile. During their forty years of wilderness journey, Israel

The Tabernacle was not your basic 3 bedroom, 1 bath with a wood burning fireplace townhouse. On the contrary! It was plush to the max. The fixtures were brass, silver and gold. Wall coverings and curtains were of the finest linens. All the furniture was made of exotic wood overlaid with the pure gold. There was also a big yard for the kids with a 9 foot linen privacy fence including a rather large bar-b-que pit near the entrance.

The Tabernacle of Moses was the temporary dwelling place (tent) of God for almost 120 years before Solomon built the permanent Temple in Jerusalem. The Tabernacle spent forty years in the Wilderness, crossed the Jordan and spent eighty years in the Promise Land before Solomon moved all its contents permanently into the Temple at Jerusalem. There is no greater Old Testament pattern that reveals more New Testament principles than the

If you are serious about knowing the principles of God and having His Life Patterns become yours, I strongly recommend you study the Tabernacle. The Tabernacle had three rooms actually two rooms and a yard. The Outer Court was a fifty-by-one hundred cubits courtyard surrounding the Tabernacle. A linen fence (nine feet tall) with one eastern gate enclosed the yard. Two pieces of furniture were located in the Outer Court the Brazen Altar and the Laver. All the sacrifices were made at the Brazen Altar. The priests bathed in the Laver before entering and leaving the Tent. After offering

Outer Court was the Holy Place. Three pieces of furniture occupied the Holy Place. On the left was the Lampstand; to the far end of the room against the Vail was the Golden Altar of Incense, and to the right was the Table of Shewbread. This was the priests’ Living Room complete with light, fire and food. Every day they entered this room to perform ministry and worship to God. Only the priests could enter the Holy Place. Behind the Vail was the great room the Holy-of- Holies. There was only one item of furniture here the Ark of the Covenant. This was God’s room. This was where Almighty God lived. Once a year the High Priest would enter God’s room on the Day of Atonement with the Sin Offering. Only one time a year could one man see God face-to-face. What an awesome experience. So awesome, the priests tied a red rope around the High Priest’s ankle. Incase God refused their offering

Shadows of Better Things to Come

All the rituals and ceremonies that God commanded Israel to perform day after day were physical Old Testament patterns to illustrate the New Testament principles of your relationship with Him through Christ. As you understand every act of liturgy performed by the priests in Moses’ Tabernacle, you can understand some spiritual promise that applies to your life in producing Patterns of Prosperity. That is why it is important for you to study the Old Testament.

Just as Moses’ Tabernacle had three major rooms, you are composed of three major entities body, soul and spirit. I like to say, “Man is a spirit who has a soul and lives in a body.” In the garden God created man in His own “likeness and image.” God made man “physically and spiritually” like Himself. God wanted to relate to man in every way possible. He still does. God knew that one day man would be His House. So God provided “in man” everything He would need to live “in him.” “God is in Christ reconciling the world to Himself.” God is in Jesus, Jesus is in the Believer and the Believer is

But the body does not reveal the true personality or soul of an individual. It is usually quite the contrary. As you mature, you learn “not to judge a book by its cover.” A person’s outward appearances can be misleading. Outwardly, the Tabernacle of Moses was just a badger skin tent, no different than any other nomadic tent

The soul is primarily your mind, will and emotions. It is the seat of your personality. It is the individual “I” that makes you unique. The Holy Place is your soul. Its furniture represents your mind, will and emotions. The Lampstand is your mind - the light of your being. The Golden Altar is for worship thus your emotions. The Table of Shewbread speaks of God’s Word that transforms your soul that you may know God’s will. The Holy of Holies is your spirit. Because Adam sinned all men are born into the world spiritually dead. That means man has a spirit but it is not alive. It does not function. Like a blind man whose eyes do not function, so men have spirits that cannot “see” spiritually. Not until man by faith accepts Jesus as his savior is the spirit reborn. “Except a man be born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

The day Adam disobeyed God in the Garden his spirit died - that 24-hour period. However, Adam lived physically to be over 900 years old.

The spirit is where conscience, communion and intuition reside. It is thought to be the “heart” of man in the truest spiritual sense. In the Holy of Holies, within the Ark were three items the tables of Law that Moses brought down from Mt. Sinai, Aaron’s Rod that budded, blossomed and brought forth fruit, and a golden pot of manna that Moses gathered from the wilderness. These represent the conscience, communion and intuition of man’s spirit. The Law is your conscience. The Law convicts. The rod is intuition. When Aaron’s rod budded, blossomed and brought forth fruit, Israel knew which tribe would perform the duties of the priesthood. And the pot of manna is communion. You fellowship with God by eating the Bread of Life His Word.

God Moved - He Don’t Live There No More

On the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2, God gave a “sign” to announce that He had moved to a new house. That new house was the tabernacle of man. And the sign? It was something Israel had not seen in years. It was the pillar of fire in this case cloven tongues of fire that lit upon the heads of the disciples gathered that morning on Solomon’s porch.

God was saying, “Here’s your sign! Here I am!” God was no longer living in a house made by man’s hands. God was now living in a house made by His hands after His Pattern– the tabernacle of man. “But Christ as a son over his own house, whose house we are,” Hebrews 3:6. How could God move in? Jesus bought the new house with His blood. God was moving into man His New House. Praise God!! Do you see this? I hope you can. And He put His sign, a pillar of fire, over the house saying, “I’m here!”

John the Baptist had baptized his disciples in water. Jesus was now baptizing His disciples with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Fifty days before

Fifty days before when Christ cried out on the cross, God tore the religious Vail of Herod’s Temple in half exposing the emptiness of that Holy of Holies. There is no record that Herod’s Temple had the Ark of the Covenant. It had long been hidden or taken spoil. We don’t know, but there is no reference or mention of the ark in Herod's Temple.

When Jesus cried, “It is finished!” God tore the Vail and shouted, “I’m not here, I never was here!” Herod’s Temple had a “form of godliness, but denied the power thereof.”

Calvary was moving day for God. He was moving “out of “ the old house made by man. (God never wanted to dwell in temples and tabernacles. That was not His plan, rather man’s choice. Can’t go there now. That’s a whole ‘nother book.) The day of Pentecost was also moving day. God was moving “into” His new house. And the sign of His presence, the fire, was upon the house. God has always desired to dwell in His creation. And by the work of Jesus Christ on the cross, God can now

God’s Cleaning House! I don’t even have to write this paragraph. You already know what I’m about to say. The first thing you do when you move into a new house is unpack, clean up, throw out the trash and set everything in order. Then you can “kick back” on the couch with a glass of ice tea and watch the game on TV. You can start living in your new house.

That’s what God is doing in your life from the moment He moves in. He’s unpacking His Life Patterns, taking out “the papers and the trash” and setting His principles into operation so He can start living His Life in His new house. That’s what God’s Principles of Prosperity are about.

The Pattern of Weeks

My firm belief is that The Five P’s begin in Genesis and find their ultimate fulfillment in John’s Apocalypse. See how one of the first patterns found in Genesis is fulfilled in the book of Revelation.

All In A Week’s Work

One of the first patterns established in the Bible is the pattern of weeks found in Genesis one. (Wherever the pattern is first mentioned in the Bible is called “first reference” and usually sets the principle for that pattern.) God took seven days to finish creation. God worked for six days and rested on the seventh.

Within this pattern of weeks is seen another pattern and principle – the Sabbath Principle. A “Pattern within a Pattern.”

Ahh! REST

NO WORK ZONE

God did all the work in six days without the help of man. The last and greatest of these works was to create man in His likeness and image at the end of sixth day. Then on the seventh day the Sabbath - God invited man to rest with Him and enjoy all His good works.

So the Sabbath was actually the seventh day of creation for God, but it was the first day for man. God does all the work while man must “keep the Sabbath.” In other words, the Sabbath is a “NO WORK ZONE.” This is the principle of GRACE.

The Pattern of the Sabbath represents all the work Jesus accomplished on the cross at Calvary. Salvation in Him is a “NO WORK ZONE.” If man is to be saved he must rest in what Christ has done. Here you can see a literal pattern in the Old Testament reveals a spiritual principle in the New Testament.

Does the Pattern Fit?

One very important note! Scripture must confirm spiritual patterns. What do I mean? Without ever seeing the pattern of the Sabbath, and the principle it implies, you can know “salvation by grace - not works” from reading

62

Discovering Your Life Patterns

Discovering Your Life Patterns Ephesians 2:8-9. The principle proves the pattern - not the other way

Ephesians 2:8-9. The principle proves the pattern - not the other way around. However, the pattern will always reveal one or more principles.

You may not always see or understand the principle of the pattern right away. Sometimes it may take days, months, or years for the Holy Spirit to reveal all the truths of a pattern. Only as you diligently study God’s Word do you see how wonderfully It is written.

Twenty years ago I began to see “the pattern of the harvest.” I am still learning things about the Bible from this “agricultural pattern” based on “spiritual principles” that God gave Joshua in the book of Deuteronomy. Twenty years later!

Sometimes you may run into “dead ends” with your patterns. You can’t find a principle that applies or you thought you knew the principle but couldn’t reinforce it with other Scriptures. What do you do? When I was a kid, my mother made my sisters dresses from patterns she’d buy at the fabric store. She’d take and hold the pattern packages up next to the fabrics along the wall. She and my sisters would walk along until they found a fabric to match the picture on the package. “That’s it,” my sisters would shout! Other times they could not find the print they wanted and would have to wait for a new shipment of fabric to arrive. So it is with Biblical patterns. Sometimes God shows you the pattern before you have grown enough spiritually to understand it. Often times you have to “experience” the principle before you can “see” the pattern.

I have a “spiritual box” full of patterns that I haven’t found their principles. Every time I open my Bible,

63

Discovering Your Life Patterns

Discovering Your Life Patterns I anticipate a new arrival of spiritual cloth from the Holy Spirit.

I anticipate a new arrival of spiritual cloth from the Holy Spirit. I’ll be reading along when I suddenly see it and shout, “That’s it!”

Caution About Patterns

Don’t get so caught up in “spiritualizing” or “pattern hunting” that you miss the point. The pattern is never to be used as fabric for the dress. My mom never made the dress out of the pattern. Wouldn’t that look silly – my sisters going to school in dresses made from the actual pattern? The kids would have laughed - at least in the sixties, today it might be cool. The dresses would not have lasted very long.

No, my mom made the dresses out of stylish fabric. When she was finished with the dress, she put the pattern back in the package. All the neighbors admired the dress not the pattern.

God’s not interested in how many patterns you have in your spiritual sewing drawer. He wants to know if you have allowed the Holy Spirit to lay down and “cut out” the fabric of His nature in your life. Are you dressed in the righteousness of Christ? Do you actually have and wear your garment? Or do you take out your patterns, figure them all out, but never actually make the dress?

Do you profess Patterns of Prosperity, but possess Patterns of Poverty? Do you talk the walk, but don’t walk the talk?

Seven Days Makes One Week (Seven days without prayer makes one weak!)

Seven days completed the first week. Work six days, rest one! Work six, rest one! Work six, rest one! For some three hundred and twenty thousand weeks now this pattern has been repeating itself.

Besides the week of days, there was to be a week of years. Every seventh day and every seventh year was to be a time of sabbatical rest. Weekly, man was to rest and do no work on the Sabbath.

Every seven years man was to take the year off! How does that sound? It’s still today called “a sabbatical” or “leave of absence” from work. This is where it originates.

Weeks of Years every seventh year was Sabbath year

Even the animals and the land had to rest in the seventh year. No crops could be planted or harvested in the seventh year. God said, ”REST!” You are to rest physically and spiritually.

The largest “health problem” in America is “lack of rest.” It causes stress and a whole lot of other hazardous health problems.

The largest “spiritual problem” in the Church is “lack of rest.” It causes fear and a whole lot of other hazardous faith problems. All because of disobeying God’s Word. It produces Patterns of Poverty. But you say you cannot afford to rest. You have too much to get done. You owe too much! You can accomplish more in six days being rested than you can in seven without.

I was pastor of Bethesda Presbyterian Church, a small country church in Smith County, Texas, for many years. The church is over one hundred and fifty years old and most members are direct descendants of those brave pioneers who left Alabama in covered wagons after the Civil War searching for a brighter future in East Texas.

The story goes, two groups left Alabama together for Texas the ones who founded the church and another group.

Come the first Saturday afternoon of their journey, our group started looking for water, a place to rest the teams and set up camp for Sunday. The other group (obviously type A personality) kept on moving. They said they were in a hurry to get to Texas and could not afford to waste time with church. While our group rested, had church and tended to the animals, the others kept heading on for Texas.

Well, come about Wednesday afternoon, guess what? You guessed it! The fresh teams of mules and horses caught up with and passed the others. This event happened week after week. The restless group would always have a horse go lame, wagons break down or something. In short, our group made it to Texas a whole month before the others.

God’s principles and the reasons behind them are true. Whether in the Garden, in the Wilderness, in the Promise Land, in covered wagons on the trail to East Texas, or in BMW’s on the interstate – God said, “REST!”

The Principle of Rest, both physically and spiritually, will produce Patterns of Prosperity in every area of your life. Take your time and you’ll get there faster.

The Year of Jubilee

The pattern of weeks of days and years was to govern every aspect of Israel’s life – individually and nationally. The pattern of week of years was especially significant. Every seven years Israel was to rest for a year. It was a Sabbatical or holy year. This was to be repeated for seven weeks of years or forty-nine years.

The fiftieth year was the most important year in Israel’s calendar. It was the “Year of Jubilee” or the “acceptable year of the Lord.”

God instructed Israel to do several things in the Year of Jubilee.

67

Discovering Your Life Patterns All debts were to be cleared. That’s right! This was God’s method

All debts were to be cleared. That’s right! This was God’s method of economic stability and inflation control for a nation. The closer Israel got to year fifty the less money one could barrow. All land was to return to its original owner. Wow! You could never loose your birthright for more than fifty years. God’s way of protecting kids and grandkids from their parents spending habits.

Therefore, land prices went down instead of up the closer you got to year fifty.

All slaves and prisoners were to be set free. These are but a few of the things to be accomplished in the Year of Jubilee.

However, Israel only kept the Jubilee ceremonially, but never economically. They did all the religious feasts and sacrifices that God required, but never did the money stuff.

They were greedy! It is no different today. “Lord, I’ll go to church, sing and listen to the preacher, but stay out of my checkbook.”

So what happened to Israel for only halfway obeying God’s commands concerning the Jubilee? For every year they did not honor the Jubilee they spent one year in Babylonian captivity. Wow! Coincidence? I don’t think so! Will a man rob God? God is jealous over that which belongs to him.

Israel experienced Patterns of Poverty by not living by God’s Principles.

One More Week

Another week found in the Bible is the week of milleniums a week of thousand year days or seven thousand years (7 x 1000 = 7000). This pattern might belong in “Pattern Finding 202” because it takes a little digging to find it, but nonetheless it is certainly there. The Bible states that “one day with the Lord is as a thousand years and a thousand years as one day” (2 Peter 3:8). It is no coincidence that from Adam to Abraham is about two thousand years, from Abraham to Jesus another two thousand years and from Jesus until now another two thousand years. That’s about six thousand years TMT (temporal man time) or just six days EGT (eternal God time). It just depends on whose clock you’re watching.

If, 1 day = 1000 years, then 6000 years would be six days of a week. Where is the seventh day or seventh thousand years to complete the week? The book of Revelation speaks of one last thousand year period. We called it The Millennium. (Latin for “thousand.”) Although, the word “millennium” is not found in the Bible, it is the time when after Jesus returns to earth He will rule and reign with His Church. The earth will return to its rightful owner, the captives will be set free and all the nations of the world will “rest” in the Jubilee Sabbath

Reign of Jesus. It will be the fulfillment of what the original Sabbath was pointing to. See how one of the first Patterns and Principles in Genesis is spiritually and ultimately fulfilled in the book of Revelation. God used the simple Pattern of a Week to illustrate His overall timetable for man - man’s week of 24 hour days illustrates God’s week of thousand year days. It’s all happening within “one week.” God knew the end from the beginning. So to help you understand His Eternal Purpose for creating the earth and placing man on it, He gave many wonderful patterns and principles to help.

Are You Resting?

God worked six days without man’s help and look what He made. Wasn’t it good! And then He rested “with” man on the seventh day. Then man sinned. And now for six thousand years man has been working without God’s help and look what he’s made. Isn’t it a mess? Thank God for Jesus! The book of Hebrews says that Jesus is the Sabbath rest of God. And no matter how messed up your world has become you can come to the cross, find forgiveness for your sins and by faith enter into the Sabbath rest of God. There’s nothing you have to do to be saved but rest in the completed work of salvation by Jesus Christ.

The Pattern of Patterns

All patterns eventually come from One Pattern. His name is Jesus. He is the firstborn among many sons. He is the first begotten from the dead. He is the visible image of the invisible God. When you choose to live by the principles of God you are being conformed into His likeness and image.

Chapter Three

Based on divine Principles “God works by Patterns based on divine Principles.”

The Second “P” of the outline is divine Principles. A Principle is a “fundamental truth, law, doctrine, or motivating force upon which others are based”(Webster’s Dictionary). Biblical principles are of a moral nature. They are fundamental truths that reveal the character and nature of God. They are the motivating forces that are to govern your Life Patterns. They are the flavor and fragrance of the fruit of the Spirit. When your Life Patterns are based upon the divine principles of Scripture you will have an abundance of the Spirit’s fruit. When you live by God’s divine principles your Life Patterns will be prosperous. Where do you find divine principles of God in the Bible? They are like the air. They are everywhere! The two greatest books of the Bible for collecting principles are Proverbs and Ecclesiastes.

Begin to read these two books on a monthly basis. Soon you will discover the principles that can change your Life Patterns. You will begin your journey down the road called Wisdom.

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom” simply means you want to live your life according to the divine principles of God. Living by Divine Principles allows

you to experience the Divine Nature of God. Living by Divine Principles creates God’s Life Patterns in you.

The Six Principles of the Doctrine of Christ Hebrews 6:1-3

The Six Principles of the Doctrine of Christ are six principle steps God uses to create His Life Patterns in you. They are the principle processes that create prosperous Life Patterns in every area of your life. When complete these principles prepare you for the Eternal Purpose God has for you.

“Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on to perfection; not laying again the foundation of…

God’s purpose for your life can only be fulfilled by God’s patterns. God’s Life Patterns must first be established in you by His principles before He can fulfill His purpose through you. Briefly, this is the process. Repentance from Dead Works identifies Patterns of Poverty and removes all the “road blocks” of Faith Toward God that is necessary for

74

Discovering Your Life Patterns

Discovering Your Life Patterns God’s Spirit to create new and prosperous Life Patterns in you. The

God’s Spirit to create new and prosperous Life Patterns in you.

The Doctrine of Baptisms takes you outside the power of Patterns of Poverty by launching you into your “walk in the Spirit.” Baptisms identify you with all aspects of the Life Patterns of Christ. The Laying on of Hands identifies God’s Eternal Purpose for you. It brings understanding for the purpose of prosperous Life Patterns. It reveals your place of ministry in God’s Kingdom. Resurrection of the Dead brings you into the Abundant Life of the Spirit. It is a full awareness of your new Life Patterns. God’s Life Patterns are now your Life Patterns. The life you now live is the life of Christ. Eternal Judgment establishes His Kingdom in you. You are now the ruler instead of the slave. You now live on the Throne, not in the furnace. You begin to reproduce prosperous Life Patterns in those around you. These six steps bring you to maturity. They can

change your every Life Pattern into a Pattern of Prosperity

if you become submitted to the creative process of God’s

grace.

A Diamond in the Rough

Your life has many facets. God wants the radiance

of His Life to shine through every area of your life just like

a diamond. The Six

Principles of the Doctrine of Christ are the steps God uses to bring every facet to that place. The sooner you can identify each of the six principles you will be able to see what God wants to accomplish in that area. You can begin to respond in an obedient, faithful and

75

Discovering Your Life Patterns

Discovering Your Life Patterns repentant way. You can become a partner in the process instead of

repentant way. You can become a partner in the process instead of dragging your heels. All six of these steps are constantly operating in every area of your life creating new and prosperous Life Patterns. In one area you may be on the fourth step, in another the first step and still in another you may have reach maturity. You may be very strong in faith, but really lack patience and understanding with your family and friends. You might be a liberal giver to the church but have a problem with controlling your thoughts. God is working all the time, non-stop, in every area of your life to bring you to maturity. There are some areas that I no longer require the level of faith as I once did. I have seen the hand of God’s creative miracles so many times that I know He’s got me covered in that area. I’m walking on the moon. However, there are other areas I’m still crashing on the beach at Kitty Hawk. You have the confidence of God’s Word and His love for you that He will finish what He starts in your life. He wants you to know what He’s doing and cooperate with the process. He wants you to “get with the program” – His creative program of grace.

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Phil 1:6 (KJV)

Therefore Leaving Recognizing the Principles

To find the Eternal Purpose God has for your life you must be willing to “leave.” God told Adam that man was

76

Discovering Your Life Patterns

Discovering Your Life Patterns “to leave…and cleave.” Before man can “cleave,” he has to “leave.” Before

“to leave…and cleave.” Before man can “cleave,” he has to “leave.” Before you can cleave to Patterns of Prosperity you must leave Patterns of Poverty. You cannot leave Patterns of Poverty until you recognize the principles creating them. Why are you doing what you do? You cannot cleave to Patterns of Prosperity until you know the principles creating them. Is there room for Christian growth in your life? Are you satisfied with where your life is spiritually? Or do you long for a deeper, more intimate walk with the Lord? To reach maturity you must “leave.” That simply means you say to God, “Lord, here is my life, do with it as you please. I’m yours.” He will take your life from there. What Life Patterns do you need to leave? They may be things or relationships. Are you willing to let God develop the character of Christ in those areas? If not, you will not grow in Christ. If you do not grow in Christ in His grace, in His faith, in His righteousness you will stagnate and become a powerless ineffective witness for the Kingdom of God. You will become the conquered instead of being the conqueror the victim rather than the victor. You will live in Patterns of Poverty instead of Patterns of Prosperity.

The Doctrine of Christ

These Six Principles are “of the doctrine of Christ.” What is the doctrine of Christ? It is the central beliefs about Christ that are basic and accepted by all true Believers. That is, “Christ is the eternal, incarnate, virgin- born, sinless Son of God and savior of the world. He died for the sins of the world, was buried and rose from the dead on the third day, ascended to the Throne of God where He is seated. One day He will return to earth and establish His kingdom. He is the only means of salvation by grace through faith for mankind.” Do you believe this? The Devil also believes this (James 2:19). So what’s the difference between you and

77

the Devil? Experience! Believing is not enough. The Christian life is more than mental assent. It is experiencing the divine nature of God through Jesus Christ.

Let Us Go On To Perfection

What is perfection? It is simply being mature. Maturity

is a relative term not an absolute one. It is being obedient

in all that God has asked of you, not someone else.

can be mature as a new Christian just as you can be immature as an older Christian. New Christians can have prosperous Life Patterns just as older Christians can have Life Patterns of Poverty. Maturity has nothing to do with how long you have been a Believer or how much you know about God‘s Word. It has everything to do with your total obedience to Him. It has to do with relationship. “To whom much is given, much shall be required.” Read Luke 12: 41-48. How do you know when you have reached maturity? Simply, when you naturally respond to every life situation as Jesus would. This is the ultimate end of every principle:

to bring some area of your life (spirit, soul & body) unto the Lordship of Christ until every area of your life experiences His control.

You

Maturity is when His Life Patterns have become your Life Pattern.

Body Principles

Soul Principles

Spirit Principles

Some principles primarily deal with the body how you eat, sleep or act physically. God wants prosperous Life Patterns to control your health.

78

Discovering Your Life Patterns

Other principles deal with your soul how you think (attitudes). God wants your mind, will and emotions to prosper. Others focus on the spirit. To have a prosperous Life Pattern in your spirit is the key to every other Life Pattern.

When you are trying to identify the principle creating a Pattern of Poverty search each area spirit, soul and body

to locate the source of the problem. Say you are having trouble with anxiety. Search all three rooms of your house for the problem. Ask the Holy Spirit to shine His flashlight on the issue. First, check your spirit. Are you trusting God completely. Is the issue a matter of releasing something to God’s control to create the desired outcome? Is fear, instead of faith, in control creating the anxiety? Next, search the soul. Is it just a matter of your will? Are you choosing to accept the situation because you like the attention the outcome creates for you? What about unbridled emotions - feelings that are not based on facts? Do your emotions control the way your feel? Just because you feel a certain way doesn’t mean the circumstance is necessarily so. That may be “old baggage.” Similar situation, but an entirely different outcome. Or, is your mind just lacking information about the

circumstance thus creating the anxiety?

waiting to hear back from the doctor’s report and you are anxious before you have a reason. If it is none of the above, then check out your body. Have you been eating and resting properly? Have you started taking new medications that might be causing the anxiety? You most likely will find the violating principle resulting in your anxiety hiding in one of your three rooms. Don’t forget to look in the closets and under the beds. It’s in there somewhere!

Maybe you are

The ultimate design of all principles is to bring you to the place of understanding and preparation for God’s Eternal Purpose in your life. The first two principles - Repentance from Dead Works & Faith toward God - are the primary Spirit Principles necessary for salvation. You cannot accept Jesus as Savior and receive the gift of eternal life until you repent of your sins (dead works) and by faith in God accept the death of Jesus as payment for your sins. These Spirit Principles bring about the reality of “the new birth” of your spirit man. This is called “justification” in theological terms.

After you repent and activate your faith toward God, your soul (mind, will & emotions) is to grow in Christ. Soul Principles 3 & 4 - Doctrine of Baptisms & Laying on of Hands - lay out this process. Briefly, the three baptisms mentioned in Scripture (water, Spirit & fire) identify your old man with: 1) The death, burial and resurrection of Christ - water; 2) The ascension, enthronement, and giving of His power for service - Spirit; and 3) The total intimate surrender to His Lordship - fire. Having experienced the three “baptisms” you are a candidate for the “laying on of hands” which throughout Scripture has two applications: the work of the ministry and setting God’s house in order.

God has a place of ministry for you in His Kingdom. It may not be in a pulpit or on the mission field, but you have an important place of ministry. At His appropriate season He will bring you into that place of ministry. He will set you in the body of Christ to fulfill the “ministry gift of Christ” given to you. Every circumstance that you experience in life is a lesson in discovering something about the nature of God. Trials and troubling circumstances are not to just reveal things about you, but more importantly, to reveal how great God is. You learn to trust and depend on God no matter what life brings. This part of your daily Christian experience is called “sanctification.” It deals primarily with the soul.

The last two Body Principles - Resurrection of the dead & eternal judgment - speak for themselves. They are future experiences at the Lord’s return concerning your eternal position in the Kingdom of God. The resurrection of the dead and the rapture of the church will occur when Jesus returns. The Church will rule and reign with Jesus for all eternity over the nations of the earth. It will be a time of God’s eternal judgement. This future experience will definitely effect your physical body. It is called “glorification.”

There is also a daily, or present, application of these last two principles in your life. Daily you are to experience “resurrection of the dead.” Jesus called it “abundant life.” Others call it “resurrection life.” It begins now, not just when you die and go to Heaven. The “doctrine of baptisms” is primarily a “death principle.” You first die to self before the life of Christ can be resurrected in your daily life. As my Pastor Robert Carter says,

“Jesus gave His life for us That He might give His Life to us, In order to live His life through

us.” At some point in your Christian walk you suddenly realize that you are no longer “you.” You have changed. That area of your life that once controlled you that you struggled to crucify - no longer has any power over you. What happened? A new Life Pattern has been formed. The principle of “baptisms” has completed its work (death of the flesh) and that area of your life begins to experience “resurrection of the dead” – a Pattern of Prosperity. The areas of your life that you give to God areas you know are not pleasing to Him- have to be put to death. You may try very hard to change them. You pray, fast, or memorize Scripture. But nothing you try works. So you simply have to trust God (Principles 1 & 2) to create a new Life Pattern in you.

you outside the pull of that old Pattern of Poverty. This is when the Word of God has “eternal judgment” in your life. The issue is once-and-for-all judged and settled. You never go back there again. You can now begin

reproducing prosperous Life Patterns.

Your new Life Pattern will “thrust”

Movin’ On Up….

In three verses God has laid out the pattern for the spiritual process of creating new and prosperous Life Patterns. Each principle is to be incorporated (brought along) as you move on to the next. Each principle will be experienced on a higher level as you grow in Faith. New prosperous Life Patterns become the principles for creating even greater prosperous Life Patterns. Deficient Life Patterns create greater Patterns of Poverty.

You first learn the basic principle that 2+2=4. You then learn a more complicated principle that 4-2=2. And still an even higher principle that 2x2=4. 2 + 2 = 4

Same Principle Greater Application

4 2 = 2 2 x 2 = 4

Each time you bring along the primary principle that enabled you to learn the next, more complicated one. Capish? That is how the six principles work in your life. As you grow in faith, by experiencing each principle, you incorporate it into your life. Then God takes you to an advanced level to learn a greater, more effective application of the principle. Get it? Hang on, you will!

Principle #1

Repentance from Dead Works Leaving Patterns of Poverty

What are dead works? They are Patterns of Poverty. They are works of the flesh! Any Life Pattern that does not produce the fruit of the Spirit is a dead work. “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, that which is born of the spirit is spirit.” Your flesh cannot produce the fruit of the Spirit. Dead works of the flesh cannot enter the

Kingdom of Heaven.

If faith without works is dead, then works without faith are also dead (James 2:17-26). If the source of power is your strength and talents and not the Spirit of God they are dead works. The principle of Dead Works will produce Patterns of Poverty in your life. How can you identify dead works in your life?

They are the roadblocks to faith.

How to identify dead works in your life.

1. Ask God to purge your conscience from dead works.

Hebrews 9:14

2. Search the Scripture. Is it according to God’s word?

3. Is it God’s idea or just a good idea?

4. Ask God to verify your vision by independent source. (To confirm only, never direct.) Put out a fleece like Gideon. Judges 6:36-40

5. Then step out by faith and do it. Where God guides He provides. God will never embarrass you, but He may humble you.

6. Do not be afraid to be wrong. That’s how you learn. Hebrews 5:14, “those who by reason of use have their senses exercised” (spiritual senses). Pride is the enemy.

84

Discovering Your Life Patterns

Discovering Your Life Patterns Repentance is a Principle Not an Act What do I mean? Remember

Repentance is a Principle Not an Act

What do I mean? Remember a principle is something that governs your actions. It is a motivating force. Too often people tend to think of repentance as a one-time experience when they walked the aisle, shook the preacher’s hand and said the sinner’s prayer. That was only the first step of the principle of repentance. From that day forward you learn to walk in a spirit of repentance. It is the same with faith and baptisms. These are not one-time occurrences you earn like merit badges, then check them off your spiritual accomplishment list. They are life long governing forces that daily motivate every aspect of your life. I wear a wedding ring. It is a token of my marriage. It is not my marriage. It is only a symbol of my marriage. I waited at the altar as my bride walked down the aisle. We exchanged rings and vows, kissed and walked away as husband and wife. That was a one-time experience. It was the beginning of learning the principles of being married. That day was only the beginning of practicing the principles we pledged to each other.

You never stop!

So it is with the principles of God. You never stop learning about repentance, faith, baptisms, ministry, abundant life and eternal judgment. God starts you out in “Faith 101”and you grow in grace until by the Holy Spirit’s work you have a PHD in faith. You start out at Kitty Hawk and end up walking on the moon. God will develop each principle in your life until ultimately you “become” the principle. “What? Say that again. I can become repentance? I can become faith?”

Principle # 2

Faith Toward God Submitting to the Process of Change

What is Faith? Faith is an expectation that God is doing something in your life based on His Word. Faith is demonstrated by your actions that you believe what God says about you. It is your total reliance upon God in every area of your life.

What does the Bible say about Faith?

Psalms 19:11 that I might

not sin against God.Romans 14:23 Whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

“Thy word have I hid in my heart

Jude 20

Faith Must Become the Method

Faith must become the Life Pattern by which everything in your life is accomplished. It is total trust and reliance upon God for everything and acknowledging Him in all things (Proverbs 3:5-6). Faith is the Life Pattern of God. Everything God does He accomplishes through faith. God wants His Life Pattern to become your Life Pattern. God wants His faith to become your faith. It is the key principle in creating prosperous Life Patterns. Faith is doing What Jesus Would Do. “WWJD?”

The Opposite of Faith Fear is the same principle that empowers faith, but in the negative.

What is the opposite of Faith? It is fear. “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen,” Hebrews 11:1. The principle of faith is like a coin, it has two sides a positive and a negative. Again, my wife JoAnn says, “Fear is faith in the enemy.” Fear believes your circumstances are greater than the power of God. Fear is the same principle that empowers faith but

in the negative.

you say, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” Don’t listen to the enemy of Fear. He will always prophesy a negative future.

To have the “God kind of faith” operating in your life, you must first understand how God operates. God only operates by faith. God is a creator. This is the first characteristic that He reveals about himself. The first verse of the Bible says, “In the beginning God created.” God likes to create things, especially out of nothing. He loves to take things that are in a mess and make them beautiful. “And the earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep.” Does this sound like your world right about now? God likes to start with nothing and end up with something. Man has to start with something and usually end up with nothing. Men choose the most talented and good-looking, like King Saul. God chooses the least likely and makes him a king like David. God will ask you to do that which you are not capable, that for which you may not have the talent or strength. If you will allow the Spirit to move upon your “nothingness” God will create a beautiful prosperous world.

88

Discovering Your Life Patterns

Discovering Your Life Patterns Second, before God creates the Spirit must be moving. “And the Spirit

Second, before God creates the Spirit must be moving. “And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the earth.” What is moving in your life? Is it the Spirit of God

or the spirit of this world?

Life Patterns can be created the Spirit of God must be moving in your life. Next, He reveals how He creates. “And God said.” Everything God creates is by His spoken Word. “Faith words” create good things – Patterns of Prosperity. “Fear words” create bad things – Patterns of Poverty. That’s what words do they create. Then, “And God saw that it was good.” The vision of God only became a reality after He spoke “the words of faith.” God sees “the things that are not as though they were.”

Circumstances don’t stand in the way of God’s vision. He sees right through them. Do you have the vision of Abraham to see the things that are not as though they were? He created the earth. After all, the earth and man are created out of the same substance. Therefore the patterns and principles that apply to the earth apply to man. As a Believer, you are now the faith creation of God. The pattern seen in Genesis chapter one is the same pattern He is using to make something beautiful from your dark shapeless world. “You are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus.” Everything, including the earth, God creates in Christ.

For by him (Christ) were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

KJV-- bless, praise. “Eulogy” comes from the Greek word “eulogeo.” At funerals good things are usually said about the deceased. As a Believer, you are crucified and buried “in

Christ,” so God can “invoke a prosperous benediction upon” you. God is speaking prosperous things about you in heaven. Right this minute. And He will keep speaking prosperous things about you in the future. The verb tense “hath blessed” means God “has said prosperous things about you in the past, He is speaking prosperous things about you now and He will speak prosperous things about you in the future.” God wants you to prosper.

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. 3 Jn 1:2

Down to Earth Prosperity

If God is saying prosperous things about you in Heaven how can you get all that prosperity down to earth where you need it? There is a pattern for that! Jesus taught His disciples to pray:

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Matt 6:9-11 (KJV)

“Thy will be done.” What is the will of God? It is His Word. Where does God want His will, His Word, to be done? “In Earth.” More importantly “in your earth.” Same substance, same principle. “In earth, as it is in Heaven.” The Bible reveals to you what “is” in Heaven. By faith you first must believe that it is in Heaven. “If it ain’t in Heaven, it ain’t never gonna be on earth.” But it is “in Heaven.” Believe that God wants it to be accomplished in your earth. How does that happen?

“Give us this day our daily bread.” What is your “daily bread?” It is God’s Word. “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” If you want the prosperity of Heaven to become a reality “in your earth” you must daily “eat and drink” God’s Word. You must live by the principles of God’s Word. Only then can your soul man be transformed into the prosperous image of Jesus.

Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.

As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers

The Keys of the Kingdom

Don’t miss this principle if you want the Kingdom of God, if you want the blessings of Heaven to become a reality in your earth. When Jesus asked His disciples who they thought He was, Peter replied, “Thou art the Christ, the son of the living God.” Upon the rock of this revelation, Jesus is building His Church and “the gates of hell shall not prevail (overcome) against it.” Jesus was telling His disciples the eternal purpose would be established. Hell will be conquered. It is this “Revelation of the Rock” that your own personal daily hell (patterns of poverty) will be conquered. The gates of hell cannot stand against you when this “rock” becomes your revelation. When you eat and drink of His flesh and blood. I have been chased by a lot of things in my life, but

don’t go anywhere, but locked gates keep you from entering in or going beyond. The eternal purpose of God is fulfilled when Heaven storms the gates of hell. It is the same in your life. God wants you to overcome the works of the Devil in your life. He wants you to establish the Kingdom in your life. He wants you to set your world in order.

In order to do so, God has given you the keys to His Kingdom. Keys unlock gates. Keys give you authority to go where you otherwise could not. Keys release you from your limitations. Locked gates cannot stop you when you possess the keys that open them. The keys of God’s Kingdom give you authority over the gates of your personal Hell. When you are constantly living in lack your life can be a living hell. The keys to the Kingdom give you the power to change the Patterns of Poverty in your life into Patterns of Prosperity.

“Symphony” comes from “sumphoneo.” A symphony orchestra plays in agreement. Many people playing different instruments and parts, but they are all in agreement with the conductor. God is looking for someone to be in agreement with Him, someone that will play his or her part and someone that will follow His leading. When you are on the same page with God, living in His timing, following His conducting, agreeing with Him, your life will be a symphony. It will be a beautiful song of grace. It will repeat the chorus of prosperity.

When you are not on the same page, out of time, playing your own part life becomes a discord. It will produce deficient sounds of poverty.

God Created His World In Agreement You Are Creating Your World in Agreement

When God created the world He created it in agreement. “Let us make.” Who was God talking to when He said, “Let us make.” The Father was speaking to His Son and the Holy Spirit. These Three are One. They are in agreement. They move in harmony, each doing His part. God says it, the Spirit moves and Jesus creates it. God had a vision of what His world would look like, how it would turn in space, how the seasons would change and what man would do. When they agreed, God spoke, it was done and it was good. You are creating your world.

You are creating your world. You have a vision of what you want your world to become. Has that vision become a reality? Is it “in” your earth as it is “in” your heaven? With whom are you agreeing? You choose every day to agree with someone about the vision of your life. Is it the world? Is it your peers, parents or circumstances? Or, is it God? With whomever you agree is the “likeness” in which your world is being created. When you agree “on earth” with what God says about you “in heaven” then His “prosperous benediction” is loosed in Heaven to become a reality “in earth.” “Whatsoever ye loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” When you “disagree with God” (do not accept by faith what God’s Word says about you – not in harmony with Him) you “bind” the hands of Heaven from creating

If Any Two Can Agree The Power of Synergy

God is looking for someone to agree with Him. There is no limit to what God can do through you when you yield yourself to Him completely. When you do, you will tap into the power of synergy. What is synergy? It is not the “energy to sin.” Synergy is a “combined action or force” (Webster) where the combined efforts of two working together out produce the sum of their individual efforts. If one can produce 100, then two working separately can produce 200, but let them work together (combining their efforts) and they can produce 1,000. That’s synergy! Moses killed one Egyptian soldier in his own strength and buried him in the sand, but when he worked

with God and stretched out his rod over the Red Sea the entire Egyptian army was buried under water. That’s synergy! That’s agreeing with, working with what God says about you. That’s the difference between dead works and God’s works. Isn’t it time you tapped into the synergy of God? Isn’t it time you started agreeing with God about your life and see your Egyptian taskmasters (Patterns of Poverty) buried in the waters of God’s Word? Aren’t you tired of killing your Patterns of Poverty one at a time by your own strength? You have a choice. Moses had a choice. He repented from dead works and learned faith toward God. Forward in Faith

I cannot stress the importance of understanding the principles of faith. Without faith it is impossible for the next four principles Doctrine of Baptisms, Laying on of Hands, Resurrection of the Dead and Eternal Judgment to be implemented in your life in creating Patterns of Prosperity.

“But without faith it is impossible to please God:

for he that comes to God must believe that He is and He rewards them that diligently seek him.” Hebrews 11:6 The next four principles must be accepted by faith. You must believe what God says about you from His Word. You must agree with your Heavenly Father. You must, at times, be able to “see the things that are not as though they were.”

If you will:

1.

Accept by faith what God says about you in the next four principles,

2.

May I suggest that you stop, say a prayer to God and ask Him for the “gift of faith.”

What is baptism? Baptism” comes from a Greek word that was primarily used in the textile industry. Whenever linen was dyed red, it was “baptized” into a vat of red dye

and left until every fiber became red. The white linen totally took on the identity of the red dye. So baptism has two aspects: immersion and identification. The word “baptisms” is plural, meaning more than one. There are primarily three baptisms that you as a Believer will experience.

Water, Holy Spirit & Fire

A. John the Baptist baptized in water unto repentance. He said,

B. Jesus would baptize with the Holy Spirit

C. And Fire. Matthew 3:11

There are three elements - Water, Holy Spirit and Fire - a Believer will be “immersed in” and “identified with” as they experience the Doctrine of Baptisms. Before examining each baptism in particular, consider the pattern and principle of Water, Holy Spirit and Fire. The pattern is almost always in this order: Water, Holy Spirit, and then Fire.

First: A. Water is a picture of the Word of God

B. Holy Spirit is the anointing that brings understanding

C. Fire is the judgment or test that makes you one with The Word experientially. Light is the product of fire. You can’t walk in the light without going through the fire.

Examples: The earth will have three baptisms. The first was with water in the flood with Noah in Genesis

8. The second was with the Holy Spirit in Acts 2. The

third will be with fire in Revelation 21. In Genesis 1:1-3, the earth was first in water, then the Spirit moved upon the water, and God said, “Let there

be light” (fire from the sun). The earth was not useful

101

while it was in darkness and the depths of water. Without the Spirit moving upon the earth and the sun’s fire drying it out could it be useful. Not until the water, Holy Spirit and fire had done their work could the earth bring forth fruit.

So it is with you. Not until the Water, Holy Spirit and Fire have done their work in your life can you produce the fruit of the Spirit. The principle is that God always comes to you first by His Word, or the water. You may not understand the Word. The waters may be troubled and deep. It does not make sense to you. So you have to seek the help of the Holy Spirit. His job is to help you understand God’s Word. You get excited when the understanding comes. The waters become still (Psalms 23). But to make this Word yours, that nothing can separate you from it, you must go through the fire. You must go through the test. He will anoint your head with oil (Spirit) because there is a table prepared (prosperity) in the presence of your enemies (the fire or trial). The purpose of the principle of the doctrine of baptisms is to “immerse you in” and “identify you with” the

character and nature of Jesus.

work of the Kingdom. There is special place in the Body of Christ that only you can fill. Baptisms prepare you for that ministry. (Finding your place in the Body of Christ is covered in the fourth principle of “laying on of hands”.) A lump of clay is just a lump of clay until the potter’s hands place it on the wheel and molds it into something useful. Even after the clay has taken the shape of the potter’s design, it still is not ready for service until it has gone through the fire. The clay has to be tempered. And so do you. Imagine trying to pour water from a clay pitcher that hasn’t gone through the fire. As you grab its handle

It prepares you for the

102

Discovering Your Life Patterns

and lift to pour, the handle comes off and the pitcher breaks. The water is lost. Once you have been tempered you have the strength to stand. You will not break! When you pray, ask the Holy Spirit to help your understanding. But God is not interested that you just understand It. He wants you to experience It. That’s the fire. That’s when the Word becomes experientially one with your soul. Recall the story in Daniel chapter three of the three Hebrew slaves - Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. They believed God’s Word. They refused to bow down and worship the king’s image. Their faith was tested as they were thrown, bound hand and foot, into the fiery furnace. What happened? Three men were cast into the fiery furnace, but four men were seen walking around inside the fiery furnace. The fourth man was Jesus. They met Jesus in the fire as they allowed God to test their faith to the utmost. And that’s where you meet Him, in your test.

Becoming the Principle

That’s when you leave the principle and become the principle. What do I mean? How do you become the principle? The bookstores are flooded with “how to” books. They tell you ten things to do to solve your financial problems, please your mate, or learn their love language. But after doing all gazillion steps, you are looking for the next “how to” best seller. Most “how to” programs (not all) are like the deaf man dancing at the party. He’s out on the floor moving his body around, snapping his fingers, smiling and having a good time. But he doesn’t hear the music! Are you just going through the daily “how to’s” of trying to be a better

103

Discovering Your Life Patterns

Discovering Your Life Patterns Christian, better husband or better wife? Is it nothing but a lot

Christian, better husband or better wife? Is it nothing but a lot of commotion? You just aren’t hearing the music! God wants you to “become” a husband, not act like a husband. God wants you to “become” a wife, not act like a wife. Hollywood is full of actors. Acting is pretending, it is role-playing. It is something you do on the outside while all the time you are someone different on the inside. You can only act for so long before the real you comes out. When do you and your mate have problems, start yelling, and won’t speak to each other? When you quit acting and the real you takes over. God doesn’t want you to learn how to praise Him. He wants you to become praise. God doesn’t want you to learn how to worship Him. He wants your life to become worship. God doesn’t want you to learn how to forgive. He wants you to become forgiveness. God doesn’t want you to learn how to love. He wants you to become love. Do you see the difference? God’s Life Patterns are to become your Life Patterns.

Soul Change

But how do you make the change? The change has to be made from the inside out. This change comes as you experience the Doctrine of Baptisms. Paul gives the process of soul change in Romans 12:1-2.

“I beg you brethren by the mercies of God that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your worshipful duty. Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed (metamorphose) by the renewing of your soul.”

The example is the lowly caterpillar that inches his way earthbound along the limbs of the tree until one day he spins a cocoon and crawls inside. Inside two things happen to him: death and transformation.

The caterpillar is immersed in and identifies with a death to all he used to be. When he emerges from the cocoon he is a new creature a butterfly. Nothing is the same about him. He is no longer earth-bound but now knows how to fly through the heavens. The doctrine of baptisms is the metamorphic stage of the Believer’s soul. It is the internal “how to’s” that brings new Life Patterns to your life.

For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given

fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority. In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the

cross.

What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?

Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection. For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin-- because anyone who has died has been freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, he cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over him. The death he died, he died to sin once for all; but the life he lives, he lives to God.

Discovering Your Life Patterns

Discovering Your Life Patterns In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to

In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace. What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey-- whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. Rom 6:1-18 (NIV)

Discovering Your Life Patterns

Discovering Your Life Patterns The three primary baptisms you, as a Believer, will experience are water,

The three primary baptisms you, as a Believer, will experience are water, Holy Spirit and fire. There is, however, an initial baptism you experience the moment you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. (Refer to “Chart on Baptisms”) When you repent from dead works and realize your need of faith toward God for the forgiveness of your sins, the Holy Spirit at that instant baptizes you, the new convert, “into the Body of Christ.” The “body of Christ” is the element the new Saint is “immersed in” and “identified with.” This baptism is the “earnest” of his inheritance and “seals” him “until the day of redemption.” Although as a new Saint you may not be aware that this baptism has occurred, it has none the less. You are immersed in and identified with the Purpose of the Kingdom. After your “conversion baptism,” your next experience is usually baptism in water. This baptism is more than “an outward sign of an inward belief.” Enough cannot be said about this nearsighted understanding of water baptism. It is not an initiation for church membership. Although water baptism does not “save us” (that

is, it is not part of the “justification” of your spirit man), it is most certainly a vital part of your “sanctification” (the maturing process of the soul). I believe the reason most Christians struggle with their maturing process (mainly conquering the sins of the flesh) is because they do not understand what happens to them when they were baptized in water. “For lack of knowledge my people perish.” Water baptism is a spiritual circumcision of the heart performed by God. It is the cutting away of the foreskin (the flesh) of man’s heart. It is the operation of

God!

Old Testament pattern of circumcision. It is the “token” of

the New Covenant. It is your wedding ring.

It is the New Testament principle fulfillment of the

It immerses the “old man” in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. (Colossians 2:9-15, Romans 6:1-18) It identifies the old man (not in a positional sense but in a real life dimension) with the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. You were not “symbolically” crucified, buried and risen with Christ. NO!!! A thousand times NO! That’s what Satan wants you to think – “it’s just a symbol.” Symbols have no power! Water baptism is NOT a Symbol. It is a real experience. Paul says, “I AM (not symbolically) crucified with Christ.” Water baptism is the “operation of God” and it is an act of faith. Here, the second principle (faith toward God) is now applied to a higher realm. God says your old man IS crucified, buried and risen with Christ. And by faith, you MUST accept what God says about water baptism. You must accept by faith what God says has happened to you when you are water baptized. It is the “operation of God.” When you go into the waters of baptism, the anesthesiologist (Holy Spirit )“knocks you out.” Doctor God cuts off the foreskin of your old heart and transplants a new heart within. You had to have a total blood transfusion (blood type Positively Holy!) Nurse Jesus gets you off that operating table and starts you walking in a new life as a new man with a new heart (nature). And you better believe it! That is why Paul says “likewise reckon yourselves also to be dead to sin and alive unto God.” Something happens when you are baptized in water. You may not fully understand it all, but by faith you have to accept it IF you are to overcome the flesh, the world and the devil.

Death Certificate

Water baptism is the Death Certificate for Old Adam (our sinful nature). When someone dies they are

this document. The heirs cannot receive their legal inheritance without it. It is a very important piece of paper.

So is water baptism. The old man died in Christ. The old man was examined and declared “dead in Christ.” So why do you always want to keep him alive. He’s dead! Certifiably so! The New Man now lives in Christ. The New Man has an inheritance. He gets part of it now and the rest of it later. Your spirit man got all that was coming to him (justification) from the moment the will was executed. Your soul man has been provided for on a daily basis (sanctification). You get everything you need one day at a time to make your soul complete. The older (spiritually mature) you get the more you get of the inheritance. At physical death (or the rapture) all the inheritance will be yours (glorification).

The will cannot be executed without

Holy Spirit Baptism

Ascension, Enthronement and Empowerment Discovering the Power Principle For Patterns of Prosperity

Water Baptism immerses and identifies the Old Man (sinful nature) with the Death, Burial and Resurrection of Jesus. The next element the Believer will be immersed in and identified with is the Holy Spirit. It identifies and immerses the New Man with the Ascension, Enthronement and Empowerment of Jesus.

Every aspect of the Life Pattern of Christ is a principle for the new Life Pattern of the Believer. He is the Pattern Son. He is the firstborn among many sons. Your new life is being transformed into His image. His life is the pattern for your new life. Just as you readily identify your Old Man with the crucifixion of Jesus (“I am crucified with Christ”) you must now also recognize that your New Man is “seated in heavenly places” in Christ Jesus (Eph. 1). One gets you out of the world. The other brings you into the Kingdom. Water Baptism releases you from the power “of” sin, Holy Spirit Baptism gives you power “over” sin and Fire Baptism purges you “from” sin. Water Baptism is the Death Certificate of the Old Man. You no longer have to walk in bondage to sin and death (Rom. 6-8). Holy Spirit Baptism is the Birth Certificate of the New Man. You can now walk in holiness and the newness of life. It is this aspect of the doctrine of baptisms that Satan wants to keep you in ignorance and tradition. “OK, you’re a Christian and you’re going to Heaven,” the Devil whispers to your mind, “but you’ll have no power in your life until the rapture.” And you fall for it. You sign for the package like Satan is the UPS man. You better examine the package BEFORE you sign for it. Is your only hope to tie a knot in the end of your spiritual rope and sing all four verses of “In the Sweet By And By” until Jesus comes?

and Theology teaches (and rightfully so) that you are crucified with Christ. But they usually stop short of teaching you that you are also “ascended with Christ,” “seated in Christ” and “empowered by Christ” (Eph. 1). Just as you receive every benefit of the Death, Burial and Resurrection of Christ, you also receive EVERY benefit of the Ascension, Enthronement and Empowerment of Christ. You have ascended with Christ. You now have access in the Spirit to Heaven. You can come boldly to the Throne of Grace in the name of Jesus. You are seated with Christ in the Throne. You have the power and authority as a son to reign with his Father. And you also have Christ the Spirit of God Who

The Kingdom cannot come in your earth until you first identify with the Kingdom that already “is” in Heaven.

The Power Principle For Patterns of Prosperity

Stop living in the past (“I’m just a sinner.”), stop living in the future (“One day Jesus is coming and you’re gonna be changed!”) and start living in the NOW of the Kingdom. “TODAY is the day of salvation!” “NOW Faith is!” NOW is the time of the Kingdom. NOW is the closest concept of eternity you can understand. The Kingdom is eternal. So, when is the Kingdom happening? It’s happening NOW! All the benefits of the Ascension, Enthronement and Empowerment of Christ are for you and they are for you right NOW!

Not With, Not For, But In and Upon

After His Death, Burial and Resurrection, Jesus remained in Jerusalem for forty days (forty days - another pattern!) and taught His disciples concerning the Kingdom of Heaven. How would you like to have been a part of that discipleship group? He told His disciples - all 120 of them (120 another pattern!) - to go wait in Jerusalem for the promise (the 4 th P) from the Father. The promise of the Father was the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the Divine Nature of God that you experience. Better still, He is the Divine Nature of God living IN you. He is one with you. In the Garden of Eden God was “with” man. After the Fall of Man, God was “for” man and on occasion His Holy Spirit came “upon” man. But the wonderful difference of the New Covenant is that God, by the Holy Spirit, is now IN man and UPON man.

What an awesome thought! The Holy Spirit lives (abides, dwells, fellowships) inside YOUR BODY. With you!!! That’s right. From the moment you initiate Principles 1 & 2 (Repentance from Dead Works & Faith Toward God) by believing in your heart and confessing with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, the eternal, third person of the Godhead the Holy Spirit rushed into your inner man.

You are One with The Spirit

The Bible teaches that a spiritual “intercourse” took place that made your spirit ONE with the Holy Spirit. “Wait a minute. Did you say that my spirit man is now ONE with the Holy Spirit?” You read it.

“But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.” 1 Cor 6:17 (KJV)

That’s right. Do you see why Paul said that “if any man be IN Christ (“the proper name of the Holy Spirit” – Vines dictionary on Greek Words) he is a new creature, old things (old nature) have passed away and ALL THINGS have become new (now, not later).”

He is a Holy Spirit

The Spirit is Holy. He is without sin - never known sin, never been tainted by sin, never tempted by sin, never yielded to sin, never deceived by sin and never condemned by sin.

That SAME eternal Holy Spirit is now one with you. He is the SAME Holy Spirit (not another Holy Spirit – there’s only one) who moved upon the face of the deep in Genesis chapter one. He is the SAME Holy Spirit that came “upon” Moses, Elijah, Elisha, Jeremiah, Daniel, Samson and

John the Baptist, just to name a few.

He is that SAME Holy

115

Discovering Your Life Patterns

Spirit that descended like a dove on Jesus as He came out of the waters of baptism at the River Jordan. The SAME Holy Spirit. And that SAME Holy Spirit is NOW one with you! Think about this for a moment. If all the men listed did all the mighty things with the Holy Spirit just being UPON them, what do you think you can now do since the Holy Spirit is one with you? Jesus said, “I do great things, but even greater than these shall they do who believe in my name.” That is why Jesus told His disciples it was imperative for Him to go to the Father. The Holy Spirit (the promise of the Father) could not come to the Church until Jesus was enthroned with the Father in Heaven.

The Power Principle

When you begin to build your Life Patterns upon the “rock” of the power principle of the indwelling Christ your world will be transformed. It will come out of darkness into the Light. It will take shape and meaning out of emptiness and darkness. It will be become stable and productive. Just as the disciples waited in Jerusalem for the power of the promise, you to must wait upon the Lord to receive your promised strength (Isaiah 40:31).

Caution: You are about to enter “The No Sin Zone”

If the Holy Spirit (Who is holy) and your spirit man have become ONE (not two living side-by-side, but ONE) then what has your spirit become? It has become HOLY! You have become a new creature. You have become the righteousness of God IN CHRIST.

116

Discovering Your Life Patterns

Discovering Your Life Patterns Do you believe that? If you don’t, the only alternative is that

Do you believe that? If you don’t, the only alternative is that your spirit made the Holy Spirit unholy when the two became one. And that did not happen. There is no third option.

Your Spirit Man has a New Life Pattern in Christ So you have to accept the truth about the matter. You are a new creature in Christ. You are, right now, the Righteousness of God in Christ. You are one with the eternal Holy Spirit of God. That means, within you -your newly reborn spirit man is a completed work of salvation. It has a new Life Pattern. Your spirit will never be any more complete in the work of salvation than it is right NOW. Your spirit man is perfect because it is one with the Holy Spirit, Who is perfect.

In other words, the Holy Spirit has made your spirit holy by means of a new birth. This is a total work of grace that must be accepted by faith - not works. This is the truth of Biblical justification. It is all made possible because the Holy Spirit is IN you and He is “one” with your spirit.

When it comes to dealing with your soul and body, these are still works in progress. Daily, your soul (mind, will and emotions) is being perfected (matured). This is also the work of the Holy Spirit. Although it is a work of grace, it requires your obedience, your cooperation with the Holy Spirit. This is the work of sanctification by the Holy Spirit. It is by the power of the Holy Spirit that you are daily being transformed (Rom. 12:1-2) mind, will and emotions into the image of Christ. Since your Spirit Man now has a Perfect Life Pattern in Christ you have the power to transform the Life Patterns of your soul and body into Patterns of Prosperity. You now can walk in the abundant Life of the Spirit.

117

Discovering Your Life Patterns

Discovering Your Life Patterns There is still a future work of the Holy Spirit concerning your

There is still a future work of the Holy Spirit concerning your physical body. When the physical body is changed to its immortal, incorruptible state, all aspects of your salvation will be complete spirit, soul and body. This last work of salvation is called “glorification.” How glorious it will be! But for now one-third of your total being your spirit man is completed in Christ. It is perfect. It is your power principle for victorious Christian living.

Your “No Sin Zone” When you became a Christian your spirit was born again by the Spirit of God the Holy Spirit of God. The Holy Spirit and your spirit became one. God’s Spirit made your spirit justified or righteous before Him in Christ. That means you can now today – stand before God’s throne as a righteous man who is no longer condemned by the law of sin and death. Thus, your spirit is no longer the point of origin of sin. Paul is very clear about this in the book of Romans. “It is no longer I, but sin that dwells in me.” Before you became a Christian it was your “nature” to sin. And by “nature” you were a sinner. Your spirit was dead in trespasses and sin. Your Life Pattern was controlled by the Poverty Principle of sin. You were born in an abundance of lack.

Now you are born again a new creature in Christ.

Old things (that old nature) has passed away and all things have become new in Christ. Your spirit man is no longer a

sin zone.

No Sin Zone. It is a Holy Zone because the Holy Spirit of God lives there. “God don’t live in a nasty house!” When sin is controlling your life thoughts, actions or emotions – it is not a “spirit” problem but rather a flesh problem.

Rather, it is a

118

Discovering Your Life Patterns

Discovering Your Life Patterns That is the point of origin for sin in the life of

That is the point of origin for sin in the life of a Christian? It is the flesh - that selfish, lying, cheating, back- stabbing, good-for-nothing lusting flesh. “It the flesh, stupid! That’s the problem.” And every day you (your soul man) have to choose to be either led by the Spirit or controlled by the flesh. Your Patterns of Poverty have their origin in your flesh. You cannot create Patterns of Prosperity by using Patterns of Poverty. You cannot change the flesh with more flesh. “That which is flesh is flesh, that which is spirit is spirit.” Patterns of Prosperity are born of the Spirit by the principles of God’s Word. To change Patterns of Poverty will require a work of God’s Spirit in your life. You must repent from dead works (Patterns of Poverty) and have faith toward God that by grace His Spirit will move and create new Life Patterns in you. It must be a Spiritual work of creation. The creation process requires the doctrine of baptisms. You must die to the flesh, bury it (Don’t leave the handle out.) and rise again (water baptism). You must ascend in your though patterns to heavenly places and stay enthroned there until you receive your promised power pattern (Spirit baptism). And last you must walk through the fiery trial to solidify your new Life Pattern (fire baptism). “You can’t put icing on the cake until it’s been in the oven.”

The War Zone

It is no different choice than what Adam and Eve had to make every day in the Garden of Eden. They had to choose between obeying God and eating of the Tree of Life or obeying their flesh and eating of the Tree of Good and Evil.

The Tree of Life represents the Spirit and the Tree of Good and Evil represents the flesh with all its lusts.

119

Discovering Your Life Patterns

Discovering Your Life Patterns The Soul Man is caught in the middle of the War Zone.

The Soul Man is caught in the middle of the War Zone. The war is between the spirit and the flesh. The soul (mind, will & emotions) must determine whom it will follow. This is where the battle is won or lost before one shot is fired. “I have decided to follow Jesus…no turning back, no turning back.”

Get into The Word Or The World will get into You!

God’s Word must transform the soul. I am amazed at how little of God’s Word Christians know, much less, have committed to memory. “For lack of knowledge my people perish.” “Thy word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against God.” “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto path.” “He sent his word and healed them.”

I like the saying, “People whose Bibles are falling apart, their lives usually aren’t.” Yet when I counsel with people invariably the root of their problem is that they are not living by what God has to say about that area of life. They are trying to create Patterns of Prosperity by using Principles of Poverty. And when questioned if they know what God has to say about their problem I get that “deer in the headlight look.” It is sad they could probably name every program on television and every detail of the real lives of all the actors. And one wonders why there are so many problems in families and the church. “It’s the Word, stupid, it’s the Word. That’s the answer!” Get into the Word or the world will get into you. The abundant life in Christ will not be experienced by default. You must begin the process. You must begin to live by the Spirit not your flesh. You must begin to study,

All Because of the Blood

“Wow! How could the HOLY (“without sin”) Spirit live IN me?” How could a Holy God live IN you? Better still, how could He be one with you? How could He change your nature and make you a new man in Christ? There is power in the blood. What Jesus accomplished on the cross for you can

removed it totally from the equation. So, He NOW deals with you as a “son” not a “sinner.” I wish I could destroy this thought that Believers have, “I’m just a sinner saved by grace.” People who believe this have already signed for “the package” and will never walk victorious in their daily life until they get this

Two Works of the Holy Spirit:

In and Upon

People ask me all the time if I believe in the second work of the Holy Spirit. I tell them I certainly

Discovering Your Life Patterns believe in the second work of the Holy Spirit. And I believe

believe in the second work of the Holy Spirit. And I believe in the third and the fourth and the fifth works of the Holy Spirit.

Why do people want to put the Holy Spirit in a box? Why do they want to reduce the daily, on going work of the Holy Spirit in their lives to a certain experience or two? The Holy Spirit never stops working in the life of the believer.

Remember these are “principles”. The Holy Spirit works in your life through the “principle” of baptisms. He is always working in your life to bring you to maturity. The day you reach maturity (perfection) is the day the Holy Spirit stops working in your life. “When that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall cease.” Just as marriage begins with a wedding and celebration, so does the Holy Spirit’s baptism. But the wedding and celebration are only the beginning. The marriage is two people walking in covenant for one purpose. The wedding and celebration lasts only a few hours, but the marriage is life-long commitment. You never hear the phrase, “They’re celebrating their Golden Wedding.” No, couples celebrate their golden anniversary - fifty years together. It’s the marriage (the years together) they are celebrating, not the wedding ceremony. You celebrate the wedding ceremony once, but the marriage is remembered year after year. You see pictures in the Sunday papers of couples celebrating their fiftieth anniversary. They usually have two pictures of the couple, one on the day of their ceremony and another recent one. In the first they are very young and naïve about the things of life as they first start out. The second picture is very different. They are now old and mature - full of wisdom from the lessons the marriage and life has taught them. Sometimes the couples even look like each other. Have you ever noticed that?

So it is with all Six Principles. Each principle begins with a public ceremony. Christianity is a public experience. You make your vows publicly before men. You live in covenant with God before men. You are so young in the Lord when you begin your Christian walk. You are even more naïve in your perception of what the Christian life is all about. But you are excited and full of zeal as you begin. As in marriage, the Christian life begins with a ceremony a public commitment of your life to God through Jesus Christ, but it is consummated in a very private way. After the wedding ceremony, the couple escapes to some romantic destination where they honeymoon in their love. Away from family, friends and the crowds at the celebration. Just the two of them alone in the embrace of each other’s arm
