Chapter 2

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

Short review of existing studies and literature that has relation to the proposed study,
comparisons between the existing system and the proposed software in the theoretical framework
where the differences the two have towards each other are discussed in this chapter, while terms
that will be used in this study will be defined in the Operational Definition of Terms section.

Theoretical Framework of the Study

The existing systems basically designed to prepare and familiarize the user/examinees with their
upcoming examination. The first system which is the PMP Exam Simulator shows the user a
background most likely a similar environment to the real PMP exam giving the user at the same
time a practice in advance of taking the real test. With a 4-hour, 200 question, multiple-choice,
computer-based exam that leads to the Project Management Professional (PMP) credential. By
using this, means the user has the opportunity to sit many practice exams. The other system
which is the APICS CPIM Exam Simulator most likely designed as the exam simulator above
but this simulator designation is a major step toward increasing the user’s functional knowledge
of production and inventory management. It also familiarized and prepared the users with the
web based exams for each of the five CPIM modules. With over 300 practice questions per
module, the questions are aligned with the current CPIM Exam Content Manual. It also features
timer which may test the user’s knowledge and improve timing. The simulator is three hours
long and upon completion, you will be graded with a “Pass” or “Fail.”

The proposed software, on the other hand, is designed for Civil Engineering students to also help
them prepare and familiarized of what it feels like of taking the actual board examination. The
said program covers the fundamentals of Civil Engineering program taken in his bachelor days,
it runs as a questionnaire-type software with various questions, illustrations, multiple choice, and
time limitations to exercise the speed and mental capacity of the examinee during the
examination period. The proposed software also gives perception about the sample questions that
are recently and usually asked in the examination most especially in structural design, hydraulics
and mathematics. The program will then give the grade or percentage score of the user after
taking the board exam simulator. It is an easy to use application capable of running without an
internet connection because of its offline features. The researchers want this proposed program to
be accessible to all by making it simple and reliable.
