Abstract

The purpose of the proposed grant is to enable all teachers and support faculty to

complete a comprehensive training program that will enable proficiency and future mastery of

the Microsoft Office 365 suite in order to ensure quality instruction for the students of our

system. Due to the vital host of tools and educational nature of Microsoft Office this grant will

require the out source staffing of a Microsoft Office 365 training expert to execute proper

training and followup. Teachers will be able to use the multiple tools contained within Microsoft

Office to enrich communication and teaching strategies as well as results tracking and

presentation assistance.

Statement of Need

In an ever changing educational environment, it is critical that school systems constantly

take inventory of the needs of teachers, students and support staff in an effort to guarantee that

quality educational objectives are met using global technologies that are necessary for success

in today’s society. Through a needs assessment completed using an online survey by the

Instructional Technology department of our local school system, it was revealed that the current

faculty is in overwhelming need for training and support on basic Microsoft Office 365 skills.

These skills collectively offer the widest variety and impact for technology-based support in our

current educational system. The survey indicated seven participants indicating a need for

additional training and support on Microsoft Office 365. It is further supposed that many school

system employees are unaware of the numerous possibilities with this software including:

working offline, dashboard and reporting options and application uses. Today’s technology

based society dictate that it is imperative to have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office

as fundamental a fact that is further supported by : Business News Daily listed Microsoft Office

Applications as one of the top 25 in demand skills for careers in this global marketplace, and as
educators who are teaching tomorrow's workforce , a command of these same skills is

essential.

Plan of Operation

This grant proposal submits to create a training program for faculty and staff that will

ensure proper training through the means of Professional Development on-site over a specified

course of time. By outsourcing the training to a qualified Microsoft Office 365 teacher hired from

the Economic Development Department of a local community college, effective training will be

obtained. The specific time of the training will be a two separate training sessions during teacher

planning.. Additionally, this grant proposal includes a videographer fee to allow for video of each

session to be housed at the schools online repository so that participants who are absent or

need a refresher will be able to access the videos on demand and new staff members will be

able to be brought up to speed without additional funds or expenditures.

Evaluation Plan

Teachers will be required to submit two artifacts of classroom use of Microsoft Office

365 as a portfolio in the same repository that the videos are located. This will ensure that

translation of new information is done. Additionally, the administrative staff will use current

Monitoring Tools to evaluate observed use of Microsoft Office 365 during a classroom

observation within one semester after training. Teachers who rank below proficient in observed

skills will be given time to review the videos on the repository and peer monitor a proficient

teacher.
