To Whom It May Concern:
I have had the pleasure of working with Jessica Buckle for the past two years. I cannot say enough about how
wonderful Jessica is. She is the teacher who always says “yes”. Jessica will take on anything and will put her all
into making it the best she can. Jessica is innovative and constantly coming up with new ways to keep her
students engaged and learning. She is also not afraid to share her successes and failures with the rest of the staff.
The students that have had Jessica as a teacher love her and believe that she genuinely cares about them as
students and as humans. It is all of this, and much more, that validates her nomination for Teacher of the Year
the last two years; the only two years she has been teaching.
In her time at Fullerton Union High School, Jessica has taught World History, American Government, and
Economics. This school year, Economics was added to her schedule at the last minute. She took the change in
stride, checked out an Economics book, welcomed any help from help department, and created her lesson plans.
In World History, Jessica wanted to give her students the opportunity to learn outside of the classroom by
visiting the LA Museum of the Holocaust. Jessica raised money and organized the field trip on her own, as a
first year teacher. The field trip was such a success and so meaningful to our students that she did it again this
school year for the entire Sophomore class. In her American Government classes, Jessica brought in City
Council members during the election to have a community forum with her students. The students were able to
ask questions and gain a real life, community centered, understating of politics.
Jessica has become a part of the culture at FUHS. She served as Senior Class Advisor, is a WASC Focus Group
leader, and is a Technology TOSA on campus. Through her role as technology TOSA, Jessica has lead
department trainings, holds weekly lunchtime trainings, and is constantly sending our examples of how to use
technology in the classroom. She has been a huge asset to the staff seeing as we rolled our one-to-one
Chromebooks, campus wide, March 2017.
As a Counselor, I know I can put any type of student in Jessica’s class and she will give them every opportunity
to succeed. Her teaching is dynamic. Jessica comes up with creative assignments to meet the learning needs of
all students. Jessica is not afraid of sharing her own personal struggles growing up to help inspire students who
might be experiencing the same. Teachers, office staff, Special Education Case Carriers, Counselors, we all
appreciate Jessica and all she does for our campus and our students.
Jessica has been a huge asset to our campus and we are devastated to see her go. I am confident she will
continue to be the strong, confident teacher she was while at Fullerton. Jessica will make any campus her new
home and her passion. She genuinely cares about her students and what she represents as a teacher.
Sincerely,
Erin DeFries
Counselor
