The nhl is about 100 to 110 years old and some of the greatest athletes have played like Wayne
Gretzky, Bobby Hull , Patrick Roy. The Nhl has had one of oldest trophies in the sport it called
The stanely cup. The Montreal canideans are one of oldest teams and they have won the most
stanely cups ever 32. The nhl is a beautiful sport but changed a lot through time with
equipment and more hitting, fighting and injuries occur. And there is more teams now and got
young talent now and got Aton of super stars now. People who hate hockey are just weird it
has grown to be one the more highest watched sport on television in the world. I love hockey it
just fun to get out there and skate and play against other people. I believe that the nhl has
changed over the course it has been around and I feel that from day 1 when it started it has
changed from then. Although the sport of hockey has changed over the years with its problems
it one of more entertainment and graceful sports in the world.

It has changed over the course of 100 years. Because the rules like offside it used be a regular
offside but know it is a delayed offside. And icing has also changed to a no touch icing. When
the nhl was formed it was 10 teams and now there is 33 teams and all them are good
organizations beside The Arizona coyotes. This what going on and a quote from the nhl
commissioner, “ The Nhl has grown and improved so much in past couple of years that it
growing in population “.

The NY Times had very good interesting about the nhl and how the change of it has been
making it so a popularity sport that I love and play and I just think it helps bring everyone
together to play the sport they love to play and watch it to. It is the 2nd highest sport that you
have pay to play it doesn’t matter what area you live in you pay per year for the sport 2,3
thousand dollars per year that adds up pretty quick in 2 to 3 years that 6 to 8 thousand dollars
you could spend on something else but you love the game so much it doesn’t really matter.

The hockey fees back then used to be 20 to 30 $ for a single season and now look at the
prices they have risen almost 2,000$ in the last 100 years. The nhl has changed so much and
here is quote. Those days are over the worst has gone away and now we sit with even better
players and they have so much talent that the nhl has grown so much in fan population and
that why the nhl has changed.

Did you know that the Montreal Canadiens one of the oldest hockey teams in the world and in
the sport have 32 stanley cups and most ever in the sport. When a sport has been around as
long as hockey, there are bound to be plenty of interesting facts, legends and stories
surrounding it. And from 10-point games to lost Stanley Cups to the legend of the curved stick
blade, hockey certainly has plenty that makes it unique. Here are just a few interesting facts
and figures about the game we love.

1. Unlike baseball or basketball, the origins of ice hockey are murky, at best. While some say a
version of the game was played by the French and Irish as far back as the 1700s, others claim
it was invented in the mid-1800s when Canadians with homemade sticks would skate on
frozen ponds in Ontario.

2. The first organized indoor hockey game was played March 3, 1875 at Montreal’s Victoria
Skating Rink, between two teams of nine players each, many of whom were McGill University
students.

3. Chicago Blackhawks Hall of Famer Stan Mikita is most often credited with the creation of the
curved stick blade in the 1960s — all blades were previously straight — though many others,
including fellow Hall of Fame forward Andy Bathgate, also claim to have curved their sticks as
far back as the 1930s and ’40s.

4. The National Hockey League (NHL) was founded on November 22, 1917.

5. The Montreal Canadiens have won the most Stanley Cups in league history, with 23. The
most recent came in 1993.

6. The diameter of a hockey puck is three inches.

7. The fastest slapshot on record is Bobby Hull’s, which registered 118 miles per hour.

8. Since 1914, the Stanley Cup has been awarded in every year but two. In 1919, it was not
awarded after members of the Montreal Canadiens were stricken with sickness during the
Spanish flu pandemic, and in 2005, it was not handed out after the season was cancelled due
to a lockout/work stoppage.

9. Darryl Sittler holds the NHL record for most points in a single game, with 10. He scored five
goals and had five assists on February 6, 1976, helping his Toronto Maple Leafs defeat the
Boston Bruins.

10. The standard North American ice rink is 200 feet long and 85 feet wide.

11. Wayne Gretzky holds 61 NHL records, the most by far of any player.

12. The Stanley Cup has had many adventures since its creation in 1893. Through the years, it
has been used as a cereal bowl, accidentally left by the side of the road, tossed into a
swimming pool and even lost, like luggage, on a 2010 flight from New Jersey to Vancouver. It
was later recovered by an Air Canada employee.

13. The Hockey Hall of Fame is located in Toronto, Ontario.

14. Phil Esposito of the Boston Bruins was the first NHL player to record 100 points in a
season, in 1969.

15. Before 1914, referees used to place the puck on the ice between the players’ sticks for
faceoffs. This led to many cuts, bruises and even broken hands for the referees. Starting in
1914, the referees were allowed to drop the puck between the players’ sticks.

16. Before games, hockey pucks are frozen to prevent them from bouncing during play.

17. The last player in the NHL to play without a helmet was Craig MacTavish, who retired in
1997.

18. Montreal Canadiens goaltender Jacques Plante is credited with being the creator of the
modern goalie mask. He wore a face mask during a game on November 1, 1959. Clint
Benedict also wore a leather mask for a few games in 1930.

Hockey is one of the greatest sport ever and most people don’t play it but they watch because
it one of those sports that there have been some long rivalry’s going on and people loved to
see a great game that can change everything.
