Student Response and Assessment Tools

Lesson Idea Name: Shapes

Content Area: Mathematics
Grade Level(s): K
Content Standard Addressed:
MGSEK.G. 4 Analyze and compare two- and three-dimensional shapes, in different sizes and orientations,
using informal language to describe their similarities, differences, parts (e.g., number of sides and vertices/
“corners”) and other attributes (e.g., having sides of equal length). MGSEK.G
Technology Standard Addressed:
3. Knowledge Constructor
Selected Technology Tool:
☐ Socrative ☐ I Respond ☐ Quizlet ☐ Pickers ☒ Ka hoot! ☐ Office365 Forms
☐ Other:
URL(s) to support the lesson (if applicable):
https://kahoot.com/what-is-kahoot/

Technology that student will use to respond to questions/prompts:

☐ Computer ☐ Hand-held student response system (like I Respond) ☐ Phone ☒ Tablet (such as iPad)
☐ Other wireless device (such as iPod Touch)
Type of session:
☒ Teacher-Paced ☐ Student-Paced
Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):
☒ Remembering ☒ Understanding ☒ Applying ☒ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating ☐ Creating

Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Students will able to select answers on tablets. For students who are not able to use tablets, voice software
could be provided. For students with vision problems, actual 2D and 3D shapes can be provided.
Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.

Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☒ Assess prior knowledge ☐ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☐ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☐ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☐ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

Each student will answer questions related to the attributes of shapes.
The teacher will take this information as an informative assessment, to see if students needs a review. This
assessment will last for 10-15 minutes.
Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):
☒ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☒ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

Student Response and Assessment Tools

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10):
Student will see different shapes. They will answer the following questions about the shape pictures.
• How many vertices does this shape have?
• What shape is this?
• How many sides does this shape have?
• Which shape has no sides?
• Which shapes has 4 sides?
• Which shape is round?
• Which shape look like a box?

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all the questions and display
correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☐ Yes
☒ No
Why or why not?
I want the students to be able to go back to answer a center, if needed.
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?
Students will revisit the center based on the assessment of the test.

How will the data be used?

The data collected will be used to assess students’ knowledge and comprehension of different shapes. The
teacher will review lesson again and provide additional support center to students. The data will be shared
with parents and other stakeholders, if needed. If student’s doe not understand lesson, it will be
incorporated into other subjects and a review also. Students will make a journal log of different shapes for
future references.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
Based on this lesson, I am trying out interactive assessment tool that I could use within my classroom. This
interactive tool will allow me to have real-time results. By having this information, I will be able to adjust my
lesson if needed or assess if the students are ready to move forward. This information is great for student
feedback and letting them know where they are within a lesson.

Reflective Practice:
This idea can be done as an introduction to a lesson or as an informative assessment. This is impact the
teacher and students to let them both know where they are and what need to be retaught. This activity can
be extended into a Summative Assessment by including 3D shapes into the assessment. There are other tools
that can be used to get real-time results like, Plickers, Boom, and Socrative, to name a few.
