EXERCISE 3

MY RESEARCH BIBLIOGRAPHY

At this point, you have selected the important references, so it is now time to develop your bibliographic
listing of not just your academic journal articles but other studies and literature. Develop the reference
listing using the new style of the American Psychological Association (see
http://www.calstatela.edu/library/guides/3apa.pdf).

This form can be reproduced as many times.

Title of Reference (book / periodical / academic APA format citation

journal article / study / Internet / others)
EXERCISE 4 (PART 1)
MY DISCIPLINAL THEORETICAL BACKGROUND

List down all the theories, principles, concepts and models you have encountered in previous classes
and/or in your readings and downloaded academic journal articles. The T, P, C or M can even come from
other disciplines, take note.

You can reproduce this sheet as many times, if necessary.

EXERCISE 4 (PART 2)
CLUSTERING MY DISCIPLINAL THEORIES,
CONCEPTS, PRINCIPLES AND MODELS

From your list of theories, principles, concepts and models (see part 1), develop a clear-cut clustering of
your disciplinal explanatory frameworks. The number of clusters will depend on the richness of your
listing.

You can reproduce this sheet as many times, if necessary.

Cluster/s Refer to part 1: Names of the theories /

principles / concepts / models under this
cluster you have identified (the explanatory
frameworks)
EXERCISE 5 (PART 1)
IDENTIFYING MY RESEARCH CONCEPTUAL TAGS

By this time, you have already selected the variables you plan to explore. So given the readings you
have all made, answer this question: Which among the conceptual tags/variables/parameters are
considered important and controversial in your field?

Literature source Is the CT still Is the CT still Order or

Conceptual tag/s important? controversial? priority
Y or N Y or N
EXERCISE 5 (PART 2)
DEFINING MY RESEARCH CONCEPTUAL TAGS

After answering part 1, answer part 2 below.

If a lexical or conceptual definition, cite the reference after the sentence. If stipulative definition and it is
inspired from references, cite the reference/s as well.

Then determine what argument are you going to advance (i.e. the impact of the variable_) for each
conceptual tag: Is it a relationship (R), effect (E) or difference (D)?

Conceptual tag/s Lexical definition Operational definition Stipulative definition R, E or

(according to (how the term will be/is to (Assigning a meaning to D?
authoritative sources) be used in the paper) a word for the first time)
