ABOUT CPRI
Central Power Research Institute (CPRI), set up in 1960 by Government of India, functions
as a centre for applied research in electrical power engineering, assisting the electrical
industry in product development and quality assurance. CPRI also serves as an
independent authority for testing and certification of power equipment up to and
including UHV class.

Power Capacitors Laboratory of CPRI, Bangalore has established state-of-the-art facilities

for research, testing and evaluation of power capacitors which have applications as shunt
capacitors, series capacitors, surge protection capacitors, motor capacitors, fan
capacitors, fluorescent capacitors, etc. Tests are carried out as per national and
international standards. Laboratory also has facilities for undertaking tests on filter
reactors and series damping reactors associated with LV capacitors. Recently, facilities for
testing LV Automatic Power Factor Correction (APFC) panels have been augmented.

ABOUT CONFERENCE
Application of APFC panels is becoming more attractive due to their specific advantages
over manually operated capacitor banks. At present, no comprehensive Indian standard is
available for testing APFC panels. Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the national
standards body of India has extended financial support to CPRI to undertake a R&D
project for development of a new standard for LV APFC panels. CPRI in association with
APFC panel manufacturers and purchasers has formulated an Indian standard for “APFC
panels for voltage rating up to and including 1000 Volts”. The standard will help both
manufacturers and utilities to setup uniformity in testing and also to install reliable APFC
panels for achieving the target power factor (PF), closer to unity, and consequently
improve the efficiency of the LV system by minimizing the losses in distribution systems
so as to meet one of the main goals of RAPDRP of Ministry of Power, Govt. of India.

The conference is organized to discuss and deliberate the Indian standard developed
under the BIS sponsored R&D project to get necessary inputs for further improvement.
This conference will also provide a common platform for the designers, manufacturers,
utilities, testing agencies, research organizations and consultants to discuss and share
knowledge on the latest developments on automatic PF control technologies.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

Professionals dealing with APFC panels from organizations like State Electricity Boards/
companies / Power utilities / Electricity Distribution Companies / Wind farms /
Industries like Cement, Steel, Chemicals, Fertilizers, IT and BT centers, Automobile
industry, manufacturers of APFC Panel, panel components, Consultants, Researchers,
Academicians, Test Engineers etc.
