Managing storage and logistics risk in agriculture supply chain

Need for a robust and Sustainable agri supply chain

Purpose of research
Recent trends in globalization and integration of international consumer market
offer further opportunities for development of agribusiness and food industry
across the World.
However, the prospective opportunities are also likely to be accompanied by
several challenges. Role of agriculture and agriculture-based enterprises gains
further importance in view of the fact that large portion of population in
countries is directly or indirectly dependent on agriculture for their livelihood.
Moreover, such economies have comparative advantage in agriculture-based
industrialization. Thus, agribusiness-led growth has good potential to contribute
in sustained economic development of these countries.

Based on the reviews it is found that, the agricultural sector is characterized by

fragmented supply chain, huge postharvest losses, and multiple market
intermediaries, higher transaction cost, lack of awareness and several other
socio-economic factors are some of the acute problems being faced by the
Indian agriculture.

Issue at hand

Need for focus on “Improving Preservation” rather than just “ Increasing

Production”.

Need for “Process in India” rather than just “Grow in India”. Agro-Processing
sector to be considered an important component of supply chain.

Sourcing of Agri products

Need for an extended warehouse and Process Improvement Plans for Extended
Warehouse Operations
the Agricultural subsectors such as agriretail, food processing, agrimarketing, farm inputs, farm
machinery, warehousing and cold chain infrastructure, agri banking etc.

Based on the current articles and research literature

AGRIBUSINESS
Rapid globalization, rising demand for food and changing environmental conditions are leading to major
transformation in Agribusiness. Organizations are rising to the challenges of unpredictable yields, new regulatory
environments, and volatile commodity prices using innovative methods. Supply chain capabilities and
manufacturing operations are being optimized to maximize margins by adopting technology and process
improvements.

Agri warehouse and logistics Supply chain

Prioritizing agriculture storage and transportation supply chain under carrier capacity constraints.
We used the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) to develop a prioritization framework to quantify
priorities for loads. AHP accommodated multiple decision criteria in support of decision-making in
capacitated situations to improve service levels without incurring additional costs.

How Does Extending the Warehouse Processes Provide Advantage?

Frequently Measured KPIs

How can food safety be guaranteed, what are the international quality standards for agriindustrial
products and how can quality of food products be maintained during primary production,
processing, distribution and storage?
Through the review it is found that, the agricultural marketing sector is characterized by fragmentedsupply

how they use the agricultural supply chain to deal with the already evident problems of uneven coverage in
different districts in each nation, and how they move forward to ensure more and better quality food.
