Directions: Using the template below, describe how you would use the interactive whiteboard in your
future classroom. Consider if your ideas is teacher centered or student centered. The learning activities
should be engaging and meaningful to the students and to others who will view/use/benefit from students’
work.
Name: Samantha Whitehead
Grade Level: High School Biology - 9
Content Area: Biology - Genetics
Standard(s) Addressed: SB2. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information to analyze how
genetic information is expressed in cells.
b. Construct an argument based on evidence to support the claim that inheritable genetic variations
may result from: • new genetic combinations through meiosis (crossing over, nondisjunction); • non-
lethal errors occurring during replication (insertions, deletions, substitutions); and/or • heritable
mutations caused by environmental factors (radiation, chemicals, and viruses).
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity. My goal for this activity is to keep students
engaged in the lesson by having them constantly interact with the board. Not only does the board help
students learn to explain the effects of genetic mutations, but it was also keep things fun for the students as
they will be excited to use a new technology.
Importance of technology: Interactive whiteboards are important in creating lessons that are more student-
centered rather than teacher-centered. They keep the students in control of their learning and help to keep
them more engaged during class time.
Reflection: I’ve learned that interactive whiteboards combine the features of several tools (slide
presentations, white boards, and projectors) and combined them into one tool to turn a typical classroom
setting into a more interactive one. They benefit the teacher by helping students learn more, as well as
creating a one-stop technology to create a fun lesson plan. They also benefit the students by allowing them
to contribute to their learning more.
