Overall aim and context of the lesson

For clarification, the lesson plan was the supportive approach for me in achieving my learning
outcomes in this lesson by allow the students to:

- Know the letter (j) and the sound of it.

- Write the letter (J, j).

- Identify various words that start with the letter (j).

SWC Lesson Reflection (Completed after EVERY lesson taught)

Select (S):
Identify a lesson and what standards are you addressing:
I taught students a language development lesson which is about a letter (j), in this guided lesson
students will be introduced to the letter (j), taught the sound of it and words start with this letter.
This lesson has been prepared according to student’s levels in the learning settings by giving them an
differentiated activities, for example, match the words to the right pictures by coloring them
according to the words colors, copy and draw a jellyfish picture and find the letter (J) between
several of letters and color it. So, this technique will support the students to take a step forward in
the language development field.

4
Describe (D):
Who is the lesson for? Where did the lesson take place?
This lesson was targeted for KG1 who are from 4 to 5 years old, the lesson has taken place in the
classroom and I introduced it by allowing the students to sit in the circle area, then I separated them into
the three groups to have the independent experience activities and when they finished the activities I
asked them to come in the circle area to conclude the lesson with an enthusiastic activity.

What were you trying to achieve in your lesson? What did the students do?
In this lesson I tried to accomplish and teach students how to right the letter (J, j), what the sound of it
and what the words that start with this letter through providing them an engaging and challenging
activities in order to suits their levels, challenge their abilities, make them think above and be
concentrated on them instead of being bored with a simple, easy activity.

Based on that, students were involved in the lesson and the activities because during the activities when
they were coloring the jacket and juice they were saying to me (we drink a juice every morning, we are
wearing a jacket now, ms do you like to play with a jump rope? because we like it, we have in the home
and we play with it.), so from this excitement it shows that students understand the concept of the
lesson.

Analyze (A):
Why do you think the students responded the way that they did? How well did your teaching relate to
the students’ prior understanding? How well did you engage the students?
Overlooking at what they were responding, I can see that students motivated well and I attracted their
attention in the introduction when I told them a story with showing them the objectives that start with
the letter (j) and acting like I am using them, also during the independent activities when they were
doing the jacket craft they were very enthusiastic and saying (ms look we did a beautiful jacket), and
from that excitement they were doing the other part of the activities very well with focusing on them to
do it correctly.

I did an activity that was related to students prior understanding in the conclusion by pasting on the
ground colored papers that has written on it several letters as a curved line and at the end of this line
there was a juice, students stood up one by one and jumped on the letter (J) only in order to reach to the
juice and take it. This just showed that the students were actively thinking based on the activity and
understand the concept of this lesson.

Appraise (A):
Explain the nature of the experience from the students’ perspective.
I noticed that, this lesson was very effective and students enjoyed the activities because all the students
were active, participating and excited to inform me of how they use the objectives that start with the
letter (j), for instance, one girl come to me and he said that (ms when ever I feel cold I wear my blue
jacker, I love blue color and also I saw you when you wear the blue jacket so do you love blue color?).

5
Thus, from this students response I considered that the lesson plan was reached students levels and their
understanding.

Did your lesson meet your teaching goals?

As I can see, the letter (j) lesson was effective because at the end of the lesson I achieved my learning
outcomes and students developed some of their skills and abilities in learning centers while they were
applying the activities. For instance, students were writing the letter (J, j) in correct way, they were
matching the words with the pictures and recognizing the letter between several of letters. After doing
the activities, I assess the students by providing them a yellow sheet to write the uppercase and
lowercase of the letter (j), so I can say that most of the students have met my objectives.

Transform (T):
How might you enhance student learning of this lesson in the future?
In the future, I might change the way of showing students the activities by displaying them on the smart
board in a big size so all of them can see it and understand them instead of showing the worksheet with
a small font.

What are the implications for your professional practice?

As I noticed that, during this lesson I had an opportunity to develop my strategies in managing student’s
behavior by using ring bell when they don’t listen to me and misbehaving with their classmates, as a
result this strategy went smoothly and was effective according to students behavior when I used the bell.
