Part 1: January 25, 2018

Today seemed like a short day.

Our first class should have started at 07:30 A.M. but something came up
and we didn't have classes for the whole morning. Ate Johanna, Cyril, Pearl and
I (Learning Team 6) decided to send our letter for University of San Carlos - North
Campus for the classroom observation.

We met at 9:00 A.M. at the old IGP Office. We prepared ourselves -- wore
our best uniforms, kept our hair and applied face powder for us to look more
presentable. We walked then rode a 04C jeepney to USC-NC. In a few minutes,
we arrived and greeted the security guards at the gate. We told them our
intentions but when they read the letter, they told us to send it again since they
have already changed their principal.

We were disappointed but tried to smile as we thanked them and left.

Time was running and we need to catch up. We went back to school and
attended classes.

Today seemed like a short day.

Part 2: January 30, 2018

We got ready for our USC-NC journey. We made ourselves presentable

and again, rode a 04C jeepney. When we arrived, we greeted the security
guards again and told them our intentions of coming. They have finally
accepted the letter and told us to follow-up in three to five days. We were pretty
optimistic of the school's response since our professor, Mr. Caturza, knows the
director.

A few days after, Mr. Caturza updated us that he kept on calling the
school but no one picked up and we started to lose hope. The clock is ticking
and the finals are coming. We wanted to observe classes as early as possible
since we still need to answer three books and we got other deadlines as well. It
felt so bad to be rejected.

By February 06, Mr. Caturza informed us that STC has accepted us and
that we'll have an orientation by Friday. We were happy and excited but nervous
and anxious. It seemed like God had better plans for us and we felt like the STC
journey is going to be a good one.
Preparing for another day of observation, it's Friday, 23rd of February 2018.
Entering early in St. Theresa's school is a big privilege because we attended their
flag ceremony. Hearing their bell made us felt weird because of the sound they
use, then students gathered on the grounds then we realized that they will have
a flag ceremony. Then at exactly 7:30 AM students, together with their teachers
gathered around to their respective room. Before they started their class they
had a prayer, they started it with reading the Bible gospel. We see that this school
is really religious not just by their name but also their actions.

When you enter their room, all teachers wholeheartedly welcomed us

with warm greetings, together with their students. Also, their students are really
well-behaved, intelligent and active. Even though speaking Filipino is hard for
them, they try to speak Filipino because of the teacher's rule. Even though it's
hard for them, they obey it and respect their teachers.

All of the observers’ observe first and second subject before recess. We
gathered around in the canteen during recess time and discuss what we
observed. As we all agreed in the discussions, we really see how planned all
teachers were in their lessons. Everything really went by the teacher's plan for
their lesson. They have different motivations in which even us were amazed for
those was new to us. This school is different, their teachers were great soldiers,
and their students are great weapons. They were really following every lesson
that the Department of Education has planned (from the curriculum guide).

Entering their canteen also amazed us; unexpectedly their canteen was
different. They have Jollibee products, Greenwich pizza and also groceries. For
us everything in the canteen was dollars, but we can't blame them for every
student's in this school is somehow “rich”. They are so fluent in speaking English.

Before we got out of the class, teacher's really explain to is what their plans
were for that day, what competencies were being used and why they tackle
that lesson then we realized that they were the first teachers that we observed
that really had a well-organized plans in teaching; they really prioritize their
students for they are important in cycle of learning.

Being a teacher someday, we realized that being an organized, always

ready and respectful teacher is really a best way to become a good teacher.
Student's will really follow you and adore you if you will also do what you want
them to do unto you.
March 2, 2018, Friday, was the second day of our observation in St.
Theresa's College. Just like the first day, each of us went to the rooms that we
were assigned to observe but before that some of us attended their flag
ceremony and witnessed their daily routine before starting their classes and that
is one of the students will read the gospel of the day and after the prayer the
teacher will ask them to clean their room.

The teacher will then start her class with a motivation, and a simple recap
of yesterday's lesson. We were very amazed of how the Filipino teachers used
different strategies in teaching just to get the attentions of their students. After
each lesson the teacher will then give assessment to the students to evaluate if
the students will able grasp all the lessons.

If there is a free time or a vacant time we meet each other at the canteen
to eat snacks, sometimes breakfast, or even just to have a talk about what had
happened in our observations. We often have some girls’ talk and we never seem
to finish it because time was running so fast and we still have some classes to
observe right after recess. After each observations we ask the teachers to sign
our daily time record (DTR) as one of the requirements in this subject. Before
leaving the school, as a part of documentation, we took pictures of the buildings,
their facilities. Lastly, we told the school guard that we were done observing
classes, he will then ask us to sign the log book and we will say thank you and
goodbye.
March 09, 2018 exactly 7:30 AM, we went into our respective rooms to be
observed with. This would be the last day of our Field Study. Emotions were like a
mixture of feelings. But perhaps, the most 'hugot' part of it was like, "Yeyy, we're
now done observing, success for our Field Study 2!" As the day went on, we just
enjoyed our last day of class observation.

The most significant part of that day were like, we were able to attend the
flag ceremony of the institution and witnessed how well the students behaved,
before, during and after the flag ceremony. What really amazed us was the
elementary pupils really memorized their school's VMGO (Vision, Mission, Goals
and Objectives). After the ceremony, the students were able to go into their
respective classrooms harmoniously and that truly started our day great.

Mrs. Jo Claire Godinez, the Filipino Deparment Coordinator, explained us

about the school as well as the department's guidelines about making the lesson
plan and at the same time their Daily Learning Plan (DLP). STC really based their
lessons from the K to 12 curriculum accordingly. The competencies were then
measured at the end of the day to assess whether students have learned in a
particular time allotted. Even if the school sometimes implemented shortened
classes due to some circumstances, the teachers always see to it that the
process of teaching and learning were achieved at a given time (45 minutes).
Upon seeing their DLP, we have realized that STC is really a good training ground
for fresh graduates. It is indeed great to be part of STC because we can say that
they have followed the standards and procedures given by the Department of
Education.

After every class observation, the members of LT8 were gathering at the
school's big canteen. We had decided to go to the faculty room to look for Mr.
Sabandal, Mrs. Sales, Mrs. Godinez, Ms. Paner, and Ms. Blanco to offer a small
token of appreciation for their heartfelt accommodation. They didn’t even
treated as like normal students but instead, as future educators. We had a quick
interview of Mr. Sabandal in order to answer the questions located at the book
for compliance purposes. Mrs. Sales shared us about her teaching methods,
strategies and procedures during classes and indeed, she is really a great and
inspiring teacher. They are very dedicated teachers and one thing that truly
motivated us was like, knowing they were graduates from Cebu Normal
University.

After everything, we had our little bonding. We took pictures for our
portfolio. After all, we can say that St. Theresa's College is an effective institution,
rendering effective and quality education for all.

"Make teaching as your passion. Love your work, and your work will love
you as well."
- Mrs. Jo Claire Godinez
It was around 1:45 P.M. and we were riding a jeepney to Saint Theresa’s
College for the orientation for the class observation. It was hot but we still had
big smiles on our faces.

When we arrived and entered the gate for the first time, we were amazed
by the environment. There were so many trees and plants and the hotness we
felt ago was replaced by a new fresh sensation brought by the plants (thank you,
photosynthesis).

We then went to the Senior High School Computer Laboratory to finally

start the orientation. It started with a prayer then with a welcome. There was also
an introduction by the teachers and from Mr. Caturza as well. We were with Mr.
Caturza’s other classes – BSEd TLE and BPE. We were then separated by major
and we, Filipino majors, were at the center part.

We started and we actually felt happy because Mrs. Jo Claire Godinez,

the Filipino coordinator, has already prepared us a schedule wherein each of us
can observe three classes in one day and all from different teachers for us to be
exposed to different teaching methods and strategies. We really felt that we
were welcome and we were treated as fellow educators. Though there was a
little conflict in the schedules (they thought there were nine students who will be
observing but we were only eight due to our classmate’s personal situation), Mrs.
Godinez easily resolved it. They also informed us their schedules and explained
to us why we will be observing for only 40 minutes per class. We were truly joyous
because at least, they informed us beforehand thus making us able to prepare
things and schedule our time well. Things were really going well. We also had a
school tour. First, we went to the Grade 7 to 9 building, then to Grade 10, then to
Senior High School building. STC was really huge and spacious! They have
basketball/volleyball courts and even a soccer field. There were comfort rooms
in each floor. There were lots of trash bins. Everything was just so neat and
impeccably clean. We were truly in awe.

Before leaving, we posed for a picture near the high school building. We
were really hoping that this would be a good one and we definitely will enjoy
every moment we spend here.
