Chain drive is a way of transmitting mechanical power from
one place to another. It is often used to convey power to the Fig 4 Chain drive 3D Sketch
wheels of a vehicle, particularly bicycles and motorcycles. It is
also used in a wide variety of machines besides vehicles. Here
the chain is used for transmitting power from rotary shaft to
blade shaft. The calculations were done following the books

III. DESIGN OF BLADE SHAFT

A shaft is a rotating machine element, usually circular in cross
section, which is used to transmit power from one part to
another, or from a machine which produces power to a machine
which absorbs power. The various members such
as pulleys and gears are mounted on it. The power tiller have
already a blade shaft which have 20 weeding blades. We are
proposed to implement the thresher over these blades. So we
redesigned the blade shaft for carrying the thresher. The model
was designed using Autodesk Inventor Professional 2016. We
put this shaft into structural analysis by giving more weight than
thresher in ANSYS Workbench.

Analysis was carried out on the blade shaft considering a
load of 350 N as the load. The results of the analysis are shown
in table 3.

IV. DESIGN OF THRESHER BLADE
The thresher blade is the blade which is fixing on the thresher
drum. The plant with grains are separated by striking on these
rotating blades in thresher. Mild steel rod is the material used
for manufacturing these blades. The model of the blade is
designed by using Autodesk Inventor Professional 2016. The
analysis of blade done by using ANSYS Workbench. The

were used here. The total number of nodes and elements generated
here is 5348 and 2668 respectively. For doing analysis, we applied
a load on the point statically in the blade. Before applying force,
we must fix the other points. The applied force is 150 N. Figure
12 shows the force is applied on the blade. That we can see in the

the results after analysis.

V. DESIGN OF THRESHER DRUM

A threshing machine or thresher is a piece of farm
equipment that threshes grain, that is, removes the seeds from
the stalks and husks. It does so by beating the plant to make the
seeds fall out. Before such machines were
developed, threshing was done by hand with flails, and such
hand threshing was very laborious and time-consuming, taking
Fig 13 Total Deformation about one-quarter of agricultural labor by the 18th
century. Mechanization of this process removed a substantial
amount of drudgery from farm labor. The first threshing
machine was invented circa 1786 by the Scottish
engineer Andrew Meikle.
The following figures(16 &17) are the two parts of the thresher
drum before assembling. After this assembling, the designed
blades are fixed on the drum. This 3D model design will be
shown in figure 18. These models are designed in Autodesk
Inventor Professional 2016. After the model designing, it will be
analyzed with the help of ANSYS Workbench for determining
the deformation, equivalent stress, etc.

strength of mild steel which is 250 MPa. Fig 15 shows the safety
factor of 1.8479. In these figures, the maximum values will be
represented in red colour and minimum values will be Fig 16 First part of thresher drum

VII. CONCLUSION

We successfully designed and analyzed the multi-purpose

Fig 22 Total deformation power tiller by our self. The key factor of our design is
simplicity and cost reduction. The design of thresher drum and
blade shaft ensures better strength and reliability which was
proved using analysis results. Addition of thresher drum on
tiller will get two in one opportunity to farmers in low cost.
From the analysis we are sure that the implementation of
thresher gives positive results.
