RESPONSIBILITIES OF WARD INCHARGE

1. Taking over the patients from the shift nurse with the support of nurses report
book
2. Verifying the articles, equipment and drugs handed over to the shift nurse
3. Ensure the sufficient medicines and articles to meet the daily requirement
4. Check the patient record by meeting individual patient to understand the
special prescription and investigation and reference if any
5. Checking emergency drugs, autoclaving of materials etc.
6. Taking care of nursing station as a whole
7. Assigning work to the staff nurses eg. Patient assignment, activities
assignment.
8. Supervising and monitoring daily activities of subordinates writing nurses daily
(day/night report)
9. Taking care of documentation (doctors, lab etc)
10. Updating of all records and reports
11. Regular inventory of ward (fortnight)
12. Supervising ward waste collection and disposal
13. Care of linen supply and maintenance
14. Submission of special report to nursing superintendent if any
15. Weekly ward indent
16. Supervision of ward sanitation
17. Submission of 24 hrs report with statistics to the nursing superintendent
18. Maintain adequate stock eg, medicine, dressing materials, stationeries,
equipment, linen etc.
19. Orientation of ward to the new staff.
20. Communicate with the billing section regarding vacancies, admission, billing
information, discharge etc,.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF STAFF NURSE

1. Participate with ward in-charge during taking over from the previous shift
nurses
2. Arrange and organise the articles and drugs for daily care of patients.
3. Attending Doctor’s rounds and carry out the orders and prescriptions.
4. Follow up the procedures and investigations
5. Administration of medications.
6. Interaction with the patients and relatives
7. Identify the needs and problems of the patients
8. Provide comprehensive care to the client
a. Bed care
b. Personal hygiene
c. Checking vital signs
d. Meeting nutritional needs
e. Care of bowel and bladder elimination
f. Counselling
g. Discharge planning and Education
9. Maintaining ward sanitation
10. Maintaining individual patient records and ward records
11. Healthy coordination with health care team members.
12. Submission of feedback of patient care to the ward in-charge
13. Ensure the requirements of the ward to meet patient care
Eg: Medications, Dressing materials, Stationeries, Equipment,
Linen etc
14. Checking of expiry of drugs and materials etc
15. Ensure the working condition of the ward equipments.
16. Ensure the sterilization and autoclave process.
17. Maintain regular verbal reporting system to the ward in-charge.
